Technically depending on how far you got back and what they were using... Using steroids may or may not have been cheating. Because the rules against steroids use were far from comprehensive. To say that the MLB was complicit in the steroid era is an understatement.
@bigdeal6852

Ben....I agree. It depends on how far you go back with steroid use. I'm sure some sports people back in the old day's (50s) if they could get steroids and were told it would help or benefit their game.... a lot would take them. It just was a new thing and not really thought of much then. But there have been debates for years if it should be allowed ? My stand is if you got rid of people using steroids ! .....You would be literally getting rid of at least a 1/4 of the people ! Maybe more. Especially in the 80s . But the blatant known CHEATING on everything else ? Uncalled for. Title and Championships should be taken away.

One thing people don’t realize about baseballs attitude towards the Pete Rose case. Yeah he never bet AGAINST his team. But as far as baseball is concerned; 1. Gambling is gambling and 2. what if he starts racking about a lot of loses and gets way in debt with these people. Not the people you want to be in debt with. Then, these people tell him that they’ll wipe his debt if he loses a few games. It’s fear of a snowball effect thing. Once you get involved in that shit with those people... It makes sense.

McGwire took Andro which was approved by MLB, at that time. I am not saying he wasn't taking steroids, but if i am not mistaken it was never definitively proven. All I can remember is Canseco claiming McGwire took steroids. McGwire pleaded the 5th in front of Congress which is neither an admission or denial of guilt. He didn't rat out the rest of the players, remember what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. MLB was dying in '98. MLB owes Sosa and McGwire for bringing it back, steroids or no steroids.

I think the reason why the Astros didn't have the world series stripped is it wasn't just the astros or the red socks many other teams during a span of several years from 2015-to about when the scandal blew up at the end of 2019 many teams were sign stealing it just happened that the MLB pointed both the Astros and the red socks and the media latched on to the Astros. Even though there were other teams such as the Yankees which were doing it from 2015-2016
@kevinhernandezretana2170

"It just so happened the MLB pointed to those two" No. Dude. *FANS* caught the Astros cheating with that vid Jomboy shared. MLB *reluctantly* looked into it. You're trying to make it seem like the MLB has a secret agenda deliberately choosing which teams to throw under the bus. "iT JuSt sO hApPeNeD" is nonsense. Quit making this Red Harring falacy trying to say "well everyone was doing it! - the yankees what about the yankees?" The past two years there has been nothing-burgers about the yankees cheating. Like three of em fans hyped to oblivion only to be disappointed with the findings...yes, I know it is "likely" every team has done it incl.uding the damn yanks But unlike the stupid yanks, theres *actual proof* against the astros and red sox.

@@kevinhernandezretana2170 and there is actual proof of others like the yankees yeah a report was submitted by the mlb that the Yankees were stealing signs and really while fans can say hey we pointed it out the MLB near the end of the 2017 season were pretty much on to the astros as several other teams had complained. The reason they sat on it was it was bigger than one team sign stealing was being used all over and the MLB when it came out on the red socks and Astros basically they said that is your warning

If I were in governing power in the MLB I would have banned all the players involved including players that knew about it and said nothing banned from baseball forever. The most recent was the Houston Astro's. Some did receive suspensions, hardly a harsh consequence. The players all went on including one became a MLB manager of a professional baseball club until today. What they did also altered or changed the outcome of many professional baseball players careers forever. It was a shame, it scared baseball forever although it seems to recover from it. Thank God. It's our national pastime and loved by so many.

The Cubs had been accused of stealing signs, as had the Red Sox, from their scoreboards for decades. Tim McCarver said when he played they would watch the muscles in the catcher's forearms, to steal signs. It's nothing new. It was considered Good Baseball to steal an opponents signs. Still even if you KNOW what pitch is coming, you still have to HIT that pitch. If you do hit the pitch there is no way to know if it will be a base hit, a ground out, a pop fly, a foul ball, whatever. The hardest thing to do in all of Sports is hit a baseball. It's probably the only sport where a success rate of 30% at the plate, is considered GOOD.

The Red Sox didn't get penalized? For what? The Red Sox haven't won a World Series since and they were exonerated for that. They won in 2018 for the same reason Houston won last year, both teams were stacked. The Red Sox had a rotation of Chris Sale and David Price and Houston had Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez. Cora was also very popular with the players. Also, the Astros have been in the Fall Classic 3 out of 4 times since.

No Rose had a sweet heart of a deal. That would have paid off his gambling debts, kept him out of prison, and eventually let him in. His book release screwed that up. Rose lied for years about his gambling. Rose is why Rose is not in. That does not let MLB off the hook for all of its integrity problems tho. For me if Rose released public statement saying he apologizes for his behavior and thinking he was above baseball I would be good with him getting in.

Stealing signs isn’t cheating, it’s part of the game. That’s exactly why the pick their nose, twist their nipple, scratch their knee, grab their balls and give a raspberry just to let the batter know to take a pitch. All teams in all sports try to steal the other teams signs or plays.

Pointless. A sport that changes the ball to generate more runs tries to all of a sudden point out "cheaters".. if you'd like I could go on listing other examples of MLBs double srabdard. it's ironic that MLB points out these guys cheated and should be suspended or were suspended without pay. The irony again is the money the leagues made off these "cheaters" isn't given back to the fans. MLB isn't about players, fans or whatever. It's about cash ? I think you get my point..

OK, SOMEONE ANSWER ME THIS. IF STEROIDS MAKES YOU STRONG ENOUGH TO HIT HOME RUNS, WOULDN'T EVERY FLY BALL THESE GUYS HIT BE A HOME RUN. ITS LIKE SUPERMAN OR THE HULK BATTING. EVERY FLY BALL THEY HIT WOULD GO WAY OUT OF THE BALL PARK. ROIDS ALONG WITH HITTING THE WEIGHTS HARD HELPS YOU BECOME STRONG BUT DOESN'T GUARANTEE HOME RUNS UNLESS YOU HAVE SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH WHICH THESES GUYS DIDN'T HAVE.

Androstenedione was 100% legal and advertised constantly from 1997 until it was banned, it was pretty low grade; the maximum result would be one 5mg steroid tab equivilent (possibly the kind you need 50mg to get a result.) The 'Diol' variety was 3x as good, but still nothing special. I think they may have used it, but the results couldn't be as good as they got. However, 36 is not "old" or 'past ones prime' (outside of football, which tears up most people.) 35 is in the prime of one's adult life, that's when they start making money (outside of athletes and other celebs), it's the end of the first quarter of a working career (25-65, a decade per quarter.) I think the only reasons that's not the prime of one's life is if they eat junk or if they tear up their body, baseball isn't quite that bad; but it is pretty hard (pitcher and catcher get some pretty bad damage, I'd see a chiropractor after each game from swinging that bat.) With proper chiropractic care, a baseball player is in his prime at 36 like Bonds was when he hit 73 homers.

36 is not a hitters prime, that's nonsense. It could be late prime for some people but you're not gonna be Alot better than you were at 28 suddenly at 36. Now pitchers are a different story. Great pitchers are often still great, and have some of their best years at 34, 35, etc. Randy Johnson peaked at 38, Schilling peaked at 34 - 37. Clemens 33-35, Kevin Brown, 34,35 , Smoltz had 2 of his best years at 39, 40.
