They were done pretty well in the novel Godzilla 2000. They were written as a locust-like swarm devouring everything (and everyone) across the US country side.

For the record, spiders are as much bugs as praying mantises-which is to say, neither are true bugs (which are a specific order of Insecta that includes cicadas, aphids, and bed bugs), but both are bugs in common parlance.

Another fun fact about Kamacuras in the toys/merch category would have been that it *almost* got a trendmasters figure. You cand find the concept art of it online and its jusy as spikey/extreme as the rest of the Kaiju that Trendmasters have put out.

There is a giant Praying Mantis named Praytor in the PS2 game, War of The Monsters, and this monster is based on not only The Deadly Mantis, but Kamacuras! It was just an ordinary Praying Mantis until it grew to giant size by radioactivity from a spaceship!

Iirc, it's implied that the 'man sized' kamacuras showed up on the island after the scientists original, smaller scale tests, meaning they were regular mantis' originally, first mutated into 'man sized', then, into the 50 foot variety after the big experiment went out of control. Also, in the 'eggs in Godzilla movies' video, it was mentioned that the kamacuras went after the egg because they were hungry. I was always under the impression they were trying to silence the cries of the unborn Minilla, and why they didn't try to start eating him when he had hatched, but were actually trying to do anything to get it to stop. And as far as how they got to 'Moster Island/Land', they say in Destroy All Monsters that they rounded up all the monsters and put them on Monster Island. The real question is, since DAM technically takes place last in the Showa continuity, does that mean the Kamacuras that were there were killed off by DAM?

a neat kaiju in on the smaller side. in the godzilla; rulers of earth, kamacuras was part of the air monsters faction in the past. i hope doug from monsterverse gets to fight three on his own protecting the main defenders flank.

Son of Godzilla was my first Kaiju movie, so technically these bugs are my very first giant monster.

To imagine just a large Praying Mantis is way more scary than a giant Dinosaur or Lizard. Problem is that Kamacuras doesn't behave like a Praying Mantis. They would be much more dangerous than they were in the movie.

Fun fact: usually the male mantis are the only ones who have wings & fly, while female mantis are twice as large as the males, since the gender of the Kamacuras isn't revealed (at least not to my awareness) a female Kamacuras is probably bigger than Godzilla
