There's never gonna be another game like planescape torment, you got this fantastic beautiful setting, so much crazy shit. Yet they went and made an insanely personal story. Brilliance.

Mask of the Betrayer exists. It is the successor to Torment in writing a personal story in a crazy, epic level campaign.

The Satanic Panic was the best thing to happen to D&D! It got the name out there and made people check it out, especially the young ones! Planescape is one of my favorite settings that TSR put out!

The opening video was shot at Gary Con. Everyone that loves D&D should go there at least once. It's a great con run by Gary's kids and you get to have cool experiences like running into Matt Mercer in a hallway or playing in a game run by Joe Manginello.

Excellent! Me and my friends discovered Planescape about 20 years ago through the videogame. We never liked D&D but the setting and ideas and art will forever be in our minds. We failed at establishing a campaign twice so maybe the 5e reboot will be the third and final chance for us to play and enjoy this unique setting - once for all. The rule of three, you know...

Planescape Torment is my favorite game of all time and no other game has come close to dethroning it and unfortunately we are in an era where a game like that will never get created again which is a shame. Thank you for doing a video series on this setting!

Very cool. Thanks in particular for pointing out Dana Knutson. I do happen to be a fan of Diterlizzi's art in Planescape, but as much for his style as for the content. I hadn't heard about Dana Knutson creating the concept art which it was based on, so I'm very glad to learn of her contributions.

So this was my introduction to 3rd edition D&D all the way in 1993 sigil was were my love for games comes from, was this campaign. I got into so much trouble in the city of the lady pain. I had a lvl 4 orc warrior with a flaming sword I stole from a vendor, I can remember running into the lady of pain because she would walk the street of sigil as she pleased silently stalking like death with her group of hype men carrying her valed dress, so i bowed to her on accident thinking that was part of protocol or etiquette, she literally tore my character apart and reassembled him back at the tavern our party was staying at without my magical flaming sword and my PC shock too his core, he felt EVERYTHING as he was ripped too shreds and reassembled like flesh doll. I was 8 my mind was fucking blown away I still remember This situation vividly like it happened it me in IRL. that flaming sword getting yeeted by the lady made me so butt hurt lmao.

I love it when a story in a DND game has such an impact that you're almost looking back upon the imagination like it was a memory. DND can be such a powerful storytelling tool.

@@HarbsNarbs the one that really locked me into D&D was Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: dragons. I had a sliver dragon who I played for years it really changed my life and honestly made me a better person overall in fact I would go to far as too say that I got my work ethics from d&d as well, hours of working at one thing that doesn't Exist physically in front of you, yet you have the dedication of a wild beast hunting its prey. Its really Inspiring stuff.

The use of alignment, always a controversial topic in D&D, and now shunned by new players to the game, but has always been integral to the game, IMO. I feel that its use should be implemented broadly, and give a character ethical and moral positions to view the game world through. I love Planescape for its comprehensive coverage of the ‘heavens’ of the D&D worlds.

Surprised to hear that The Khazar Dictionary was an influence, but it makes perfect sense. It's structured like a setting book such as Factol's Manifesto or Face of Sigil, with a focus on odd characters and uncertain history.

I am, amongst other things, a 2nd ed Planescape DM. Nothing has ever riveled the depth of that campaign and any mention of the plaes afterwards just doesnt do it justice. Planescape Torment was a game where I cried at the start en cried at the end. Because it captured it so well. I have a BA in philosophy as well, though that came afterwards. The sheer effort that went into the factions amazes me and is so relateble as a philosopher. Remember: The multiverse is decaying and we are here to help it along. But first: Let's watch endless forms most beautiful with our endless senses.

Late 1990's & early 2000's I also DM & played Planescape at my first game shop in my early 20's. We mix AD&D2ndE with aspects of White Wolf multiple magic systems and Werewolf/ Mage spirit realm concept. Had plenty of times where the shops multiple DMs and players retcon my characters backgrounds for plot development. 1.) Such as having a fire genie use a Wish to rip/ pull a piece of my PC soul apart and reincarnate a class level into a new being as a 1st-level bard with a happy childhood. 2.) Once my PC could cast Wish on his own, done multiple Wish/ reincarnations along with creating many Simularums to act as my .. angels. Then had to deal with another player group that went god hunting and they wanted my PC as a Xp snack Trophy. The shop had an Open Campaign Setting of player group vs player group. 3.) So as a group vote, the shop just turn my lead PC into a demi/ lesser god, and all my past PC were my multiple reincarnation seeds. 4.) We dealt with a lot of the Blood War and lower planes cause .. adventure. So one of my scruffy ragabond bard PC made a habit of paying .. bribes .. to all the ferrymen of the rive Styx. Turn out anytime my PC risk death, some ferrymen always shows up cause I paid well in advance. Which force the other party members to throw what valuables they had on them to get away from murderous problems. Then they sent that PC back in time who ended up starting the whole reincarnation bit and bribing ferrymen. 5.) Another bard was stuck with a fire gen/ small fire elemental, a Baator imp, and a pixie .. three teenage bickering girls. 6.) Then there was the 1920's gumshoes P.I. that was true neutral/le with one foot in the lower planes, he doesn't remember how he ended up working for Asmodeus. But he has free travel through the nine hells of Baator. The P.I. is the middle man between the upper & lower planes like one of those classic mob shows. 7.) Had to deal with a group of snob jerks at the game shop where their DM lets them run around as murder hobos killing liches & dragons as Xp snack and a whole bunch of treasure loot. And they always bully every PC I had. They really push the shop's owner social limits. I got lucky on a random treasure roll and got a rod of Polymorph Other and Stone to Flesh. And the jerks .. failed .. their saves ! So I turn them into stone baby box turtle paper weights and sold them as Soul Stones along with getting every item on their PCs sheets ! ... house rules of the shop. Part 2.) You have a BA in philosophy ? What about sociology ? Why due npc live in Gate Towns to the lower planes ? Why don't npcs or pcs really try to escape from Baator ? Roll 1d8 1.) Out Lands, if killed pc gets reincarnated back into the prime material world. 2.) Near a Gate Town and drawn to it. 3.) Gate town 4.) Running and hiding from the Baator. 5.) Willing joining the Blood War to earn your place in Baator. 6.) .. well, .. your PC is a slug. 7.) Imp. 8.) Fiend soldier in the Blood War. If PC bribe the Baator before his death and spends 1,001 days in the Fire Pit x fiend ranking level with wisdom/ charisma check roll saves they remember their mortal lives. " Spiderman vs the Sinister Six." If PC is killed without a TPK, then player flips a coin, heads White Wolf/ World of Darkness: Wraith Oblivion in AD&D or Planescape. Some times you just have to keep a cool PC going, or sell them as a Soul Stone.
