OUNCA STONE:
In the outskirts of the rural region of the state, there was a stone split in half, with a crack measuring approximately three meters. The oldest say that a jaguar, cornered by a hunter's dogs, fled from Serra da Micaela to a region between the Jacu and Jacuzinho rivers. And this jaguar was mortally wounded in the middle of the jump by this hunter, thus giving rise to the name Salto da Onça, which for a long time called the village.
Ana Joaquina de Pontes, from Pernambuco, bought property there and settled with her family, starting the settlement in 1850. The tomb of the founder of the municipality, however, is covered by thickets near the crevice where the jaguar would have jumped-today a tourist terminal little used by the city's population. (Terminal is only open on Sundays, with snacks and cold beer) phone: 84-999398956 Erian
On the occasion of the first Mass in the village, the Vicar of Goianinha (municipality from which Santo Antônio was dismembered), Manoel Ferreira Borges, moved the village to Santo Antônio. The addition of Santo da Onça persevered by popular force, uniting history and religiosity. But officially, the municipality is just called Santo Antônio.
The story:
At the end of the 18th century, the center began with cotton plantations and cattle raising.
In 1850, Ana Joaquina de Pontes, founder of the village, bought a site between the Jacu and Jacuzinho rivers, where the Municipal Headquarters is located today. Settled with her family, she built houses, developed agriculture and donated land for the construction of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
In the 19th century, the village of Salto da Onça was named after Santo Antonio by the vicar of Goianinha, Father Manoel Ferreira Borges, when he said the 1st mass there. The popular name of "Santo Antonio do Salto da Onça" emerged, but the name given by the priest prevailed.
The municipality of Santo Antônio is 70 km from Natal. And on this route, it passes through several municipalities, each with its own history.
See you in the next video, cheers.
