I actually didn’t know about Sundown towns until i came across a recent TikTok, and it was a white guy warning all blacks not to stop by Vidor Texas (i think it was Vidor) because it was a sundown town. I don’t think the guy was a raciest, but he was just putting the message out there that if you’re black, do not, for any reason stop in Vidor Texas after sundown. Stay in your car and keep driving through.

I live in an area that is, today, fairly liberal (northeast US) but I was surprised to learn that even less than 75 years ago there were specific houses that touring jazz bands had to stay at to be safe. All the white locals could enjoy their music in the clubs on the weekends, but couldn’t enjoy their presence in the community? It’s insane

Before the 1987 march, you had some people painting a rosy picture of " Sundown Town " Forsyth County, Georgia which is located just north of Atlanta. Even more striking is that Forsyth, along with the adjacent counties of Cherokee, Dawson, and Pickens, were together, in 1990, home to 154,000 white residents, and only 1,900 black residents, and nobody couldn't see that their collective white-black demographics represented the only " Sundown Region " within the South at the time.

@@rowan6394 Yes, discrimination should be taught but if shouldnt be the main focus of your history and identity. That pushes victim hood and im sorry im just not siding with anyone who wants that to be the focus on black people. My friend tried to tell me that black people didnt have a choice in if they wanted to live in the UK, i had to correct him by telling him my father wasn't forced here on a slave boat. He came by choice from Jamaica to better his life, he got a job working in ford, was housed and had a child with a white woman. I'm that child and he bettered his life. And talking about history repeating its self, you really should do research on modern day slavery. Maybe you'll have a different outlook then.

They got this sundown law wrong. If you didn't have a reason to be in this town you would be considered a trespasser ,thief, home invader ,murderer and would be dealt with accordingly by the lawful residents. The tree did not care who you were if you were to decorated it or whipped on it.Color had nothing to do with it. At that time the Christian thing was to feed and clothes the needy and not turn anyone away but bad acts were dealt with very very harshly.
