Do you know what is the first great device that represented an incredible development for physics research? The telescope.
When was it invented? Who first used it to observe stars and planets? How has it developed throughout the centuries? What are nowadays most important devices? Are they really different from previous models? These and other questions are the theme of this video, so, if you are interested, stick with me and prepare to a wonderful journey through the history of telescopes.
And do you know at that time who was trying to study stars and planets, unveiling incredible secrets that brought to the creation of the scientifical method? Galileo
Although its importance is undoubtful, these instruments needed a lot of improvements that were made by the famous Johannes Kepler. In his “Cataoptrics” in 1611, he suggested the construction of a telescope with two convex lenses.
In 1666 Isaac Newton, based on his theories of refraction and color, concluded that light could not be refracted through a lens without causing chromatic aberrations, although he incorrectly concluded from some rough experiments that all refracting substances would diverge the prismatic colors in a constant proportion to their mean refraction. From these experiments Newton understood that no improvement could be made in the refracting telescope.
Its name is ELT (Extremely Large Telescope) and it is going to have an enormous diameter of 39 meters!

Telescopes are just an unfathomable invention in human history. Billions of light years being visualised. Imagine!

William Herschel discovered Uranus with a 6" aperture reflector. He used an 18.5" aperture telescope to catalogue thousands of clusters, nebulae and galaxies.

I was camping out on Wednesday night and rather undergunned telescope wise with only my 5x10 monocular on me but i was able to split Epsilon Lyrae, the Double Double, with it only the main two components but a big boost on the naked eye.

I'm not so sure how the nudity at 0:39 - 0:43 is allowed under KZfaq's guidelines.

Khaos: what did alchemists use before telescopes? 🤔🤔🤔 Psilocybin Our subconscious is ruled by the warping of space time by mass. It’s how the solar system was mapped out to Sedna/Tiamat millennia ago. 😊😊😊 Makes better sense when you name Atlas (Uranus) and Khaos (Neptune) correctly. Hades is right tho.

It would be a great video if it was more kid friendly. Please 'fix' the nudity at 0:39 - 0:43. Thanks

Have you ever seen the ceiling to the Sistine Chapel? Hope no kids ever go in, they’ll be corrupted.

@JEEDUHCHRI I have seen the Sistine Chapel, it's a marvel. It's just that if I showed this to my kids in my Science class, it would take just one overly sensitive student or parent for me to lose my job. The world is full of those people nowadays 😕
