The Buck 102 Woodsman is one of my favorite knife patterns. I present the history of this great piece of cutlery in this video. Enjoy!

I bought a stacked leather handle 102. It was a LL Bean exclusive at the time. It had LL BEAN etched on the blade. I returned it. Also had one in stag. Gave it to my son. The one I have now is the plain black phenolic.

I just picked up my first 102 for elk hunting this fall. I am surprised how light the knife is. It weighs only about 4.6 oz with the sheath so its perfect for my pack. Even with the modern skeletonized ultralight knives by Buck this classic is still one of the lightest models in the lineup with a much better handle.
@knifedelights74732 ай бұрын
I think it will serve you well. Do you know about the Buck 113? It was originally called an Elk skinner. Many people have raved about it's performance will dressing out deer. Thanks for watching, my friend.

@@knifedelights7473 That looks like a nice knife as well although somewhat heavy. I was on the fence between the 105, 102 and 117 but ended up pulling the trigger on the 102 for its light weight. I already have a heaver Buck Pursuit on my hip and needed a more nimble and light knife for camp and in my kill kit. We are going to pack in and spike camp this year so I am trying to keep as light as possible.

Nice collection and history in brief! I bought the green one on a have-a-knives-day-event because it hit my eye. First i thought it was not that sturdy, using it now as a kitchen knife. Great small knife!

I recently picked up one of these knives for fishing and it has been great. Sharp right out of the box and surprisingly light for its size. I love it! I was wondering if you had any insight on why the older 102s had a blade that came straight out of the handle, but the newer 102s have a slight upward angle to the blade? I would love to know!
@knifedelights74737 ай бұрын
I don't know why the design was changed, but the early 102s, 105s, etc, had a slightly different design than the ones we buy today. I have done videos comparing the older with the newer. Thanks for watching, Ryan. And enjoy using your 102!

The 102 with a stag handle were limited editions, and are very hard to find these days. Thanks so much for watching, Jose!

Cordial saludo. Atte. jlm

Good morning, I'm not a hunter but I like the 102 model. Do you recommend it for hiking and camping?
@knifedelights74734 ай бұрын
I think it would be a good GENERAL PURPOSE knife for hiking and camping. It's good to have a fixed blade with you, and this one is small and fairly lightweight, and yet big enough to use for a variety of purposes. Let me know if you get one, and what you think of it. Thanks for watching, my friend.

@@knifedelights7473 you have been very kind! I just subscribed to your channel. I currently use a Buck 110 (classic) as an all-purpose knife. I was hesitant because I thought it was only useful for hunting (as per the description) but instead I fell in love with it! I love American knives. Greetings from Milan (Italy).
