A few myths being created here, all passengers didn't book in at the Cunard Building, the boat train actually took the bulk of passengers into the Riverside station which was alongside the landing stage. They then passes through the baggage hall and customs to embark aboard the liners. The 'railway' in the basement consisted of a track which was used to carry coal, on bogies, from the coal bunkers to the boiler room.
