The best instrument ever invented. I've been playing it for 45 years and am still discovering so much and being fascinated by it. I love the sax!

That was a very well written and entertaining documentary. I'm bisaxual and like to play my music both straight and kooky on my horns. During lockdown I decided to run over a few classical pieces and noticed that after a week the mailman was starting to whistle the cadenza from Glazunov's concerto instead of his usual selection of Raindrops Keep Falling From My Head and The Theme From Taxi

In the fondly remembered 1960's there was a guy named Paul Desmond.....with the Dave Brubeck Quartet... his million selling "Take Five" in 5/4 time made a bit of a hit.....

This video had so much effort put into it, you genuinely deserve more subscribers. My only complaint is that you failed to mention how amazing the Alto Sax can sound in a classical orchestra, such as Shostakovich’s Second Waltz, perfect in every other way.

Agree. I love classical saxophone. Those players get such a beautiful tone. It takes much work to achieve that though.

Great video, excellent run down of a large history, never overly detailed but also hitting focal points that are lesser known. Good work grabbing the viewers with songs and names they can relate to as well.

I think that even though saxophone is not featured in top music nearly as much as in the past, it is still featured nowadays more than any instrument other than guitar, bass, and drums

"Lilly was Here", from 1989 is also note worthy for a female sax player - and a great guitar vs sax number. And if you like Jazz Fusion check out Spyra Gyra - "Morning Dance".

It would have been nice to have consulted some performing saxophonists in this presentation and imparted some of their motivations and inspirations for playing the saxophone. As an amateur saxophonist myself, my exposure to the teachings of Marcel Mule, Sigurd Raschèr, Henri Selmer, the West Coast Jazz scene and Stan Getz (and the Bossa nova jazz phase after hard bebop died) shaped my interest in the instrument, as did my music teachers Alan Mercer and Tony Hicks. My favourite saxophone solo is in Love For Sale by Cannonball Adderley.

The song “Tequila” featured the Saxophone and should be included here (if possible). Junior Walker had some hits featuring Sax like “Shotgun” and he played the sax solo on the Foreigner song

Put the ligature on the mouthpiece first. THEN slide the reed under the ligature. This way you don't chip the edge of the reed accidentally with the ligature.

I genuinely appreciate all the research and work you clearly put into this informative video. If I may submit one constructive criticism: the video editing is crazy. You only linger on any image for a couple seconds. There are confusingly long blackouts. And a lot of stock images that have nothing to do with our story. Fewer but more relevant pictures would be better- and less work!

Sigurd rascher such an important person. At the very least just for his overtone studies. But so many things to say about him
Great content, but dood, you don't need a visual image for every word. Way too many edits with misc. non subject related snippits that's distracting.

Too many factual errors, for instance calling the be bop number Dizzy Atmosphere, Groovin High(which sounds nothing like Dizzy Atmosphere). Also stating John Coltrane's career started in 1960, when it's not exactly unknown that he spent much of the 1950's playing in possibly the most famous jazz group of the period, The Miles Davis quartet and quintet. Trane also died as a result of cancer not necessarily connected to his drug addiction. Coltrane stopped using heroin and alcohol some ten years before he died. Btw the album Giant Steps used as an example here presented a situation most bizarre where a piece recorded before this documentary claimed the artist being featured had started his career. I could go on.

So the sax has fallen out of favor in today's music scene? No big surprise. When was the last time you couldnt wait to watch the Grammy awards? The monotonous and souless music being heard today doesn't inspire a true musician anymore. Is there anything worth listening to in 2021that really touches the heart? Maybe twice in a century music undergoes a transformation, but we have a ways to go before we see this happening. Sadly, we need those great music composers to step forward and create something fresh and new so we can get back on track.
