It takes more than mirror dimensions, jumps through time, and crash landings to stop the Enterprise's legacy. The Federation flagship's history goes deeper than you may realize.

The TOS Enterprise design did allow for saucer separation, the special effects budget did not.

Not to mention it was meant to be a last resort. The ship would need spacedock to be put back together.
@joeboxter3635
@joeboxter3635 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelpapp5518 how would that work! You could be light years away. The saucer can only move sub-light speed. The original plan was to have the saucer separate leaving the main hull in orbit. Thus a flying saucer landing akin to forbidden planet was envisioned. But budget forced the transporter as a cheaper special effect than episodic saucer separation and landings.
@michaelpapp5518
@michaelpapp5518 Жыл бұрын
@@joeboxter3635 that’s the plan for TNG. In TOS, the saucer separation was more like a life boat function. The crew would indeed not be traveling at any speeds but impulse. The saucer would have to be salvaged and towed.
@michaelpapp5518
@michaelpapp5518 Жыл бұрын
@@joeboxter3635 it was the use of a shuttle craft that was too expensive then. Not having shuttles at first is why the transporter was envisioned. I believe cost was also why the saucer separation was never shown.

Yes, this youtube is incorrect on that point. There was a book with schematics of the TOS enterprise published in the years soon after cancelation of the series. It clearly stated the sections could separate- a fact that can as a surprise to most fans.

When he first saw the concept for the Enterprise, Roddenberry thought it’d look better upside down from how we know it. The saucer section was detachable in the original version as well, but they never used that feature. That’s part of why it was detached so soon in TNG, to make sure they used that feature they never got to use in the original series.

From what I beleive about Star Trek, you have missed out an important point abiut the NCC 1701 A. This was originally another Constitution class vessel named the Yorktown. During the whale probes approach to Earth in the Voyage Home it was heavily damaged, and a so wa renamed and given to Kirk. This makes sense as why would Star Fleet build a copy of a 40+ year old warship which no longer fitted their core mission.

The Enterprise on SNW bothers me no end. For example, the captain's luxurious quarters include a kitchen where he cooks, holds dinner parties, and washes dishes by hand. Sure.... And don't get me going about the relationship between T'Pring and Spock as portrayed on SNW that ignores all sorts of canon concerning "Vulcan biology/marriage rituals" as shown in the episode of "Amok Time," and even in many episodes of "Enterprise" and other ST series. Eek! "The space shuttle Enterprise was the first space-faring ship to bear the name..." Not technically correct, though. The Enterprise was a test vehicle that was launched from the back of a 747 to test it's atmospheric flight worthiness. It was never designed to fly in space, unfortunately. As an Orbiter Test Vehicle, part of the Approach and Landing Test Flights, it made a number of test flights back in 1977 but was never actually fitted to an External Tank and launched into space.
