Inspired by the gloomy forests in Alice in Wonderland, this tutorial follows an illuminated trail through a dark hollow...
This is a Get Gouachey tutorial from The Tulgey Wood Collection. If you want to master working with gouache and love to paint magical scenes like this, check out Get Gouachey for over 200 more enchanting projects to explore.
Happy painting!
Ruth ✨
COLORS
I used titanium white, Prussian blue, phthalo green, primary yellow, gamboge (mix primary red and yellow to create a warm orange if you don't have this color), burnt sienna (or alternatively mix a warm brown from primary red and yellow to make orange, and then darkened with a little primary blue).
BRUSHES
For brushes I use a 1/2" angled shader, a 1/2" flat, size 8 filbert, size 4 round, size 6 round petal and size 2 liner. These are Kingart Original Gold Series brushes- I've been using these brushes exclusively for over 2 years now and I love them!

PAPER
I'm painting in my Hahnemühle 100% cotton watercolor sketchbook

I really enjoyed the step by step instructions. I am going to replay this video when I have my paints and art supplies set up (we recently moved and I don't have my art desk and supplies set up yet) so that I can attempt to re-create this lovely painting. Definitely worth a subscribe for more tutorials like this, without a bunch of useless chitter chatter, but good step by step instruction. Thank you, looking forward to your next video.

Always loved to sketch & dabble around in art but got into the digital art business for about 23 years. Started out as a 2D artist but about 7 years ago got into 3D art promotion due to nerve damage in my right arm, that limited my capacity to draw. Problem is, Ive been missing sketching & such so much but I cant hold a pen without my hand/fingers cramping quite quickly & with that, Im not drawing the way I use to (I cant even write as I once did) so basically have to relearn everything again with how I can work now. But decided that going back to basic, especially in AI times, could be a good move, also cause yea I miss it. But I must admit, ive been apprehensive, intimidated, to get started. Sketching sure cause thats never been hard really but again, Im limited by how I can hold the pen. So I thought, why not just try painting, I hold a brush very different to a pen & it dosnt hurt as quick. But were to start, got my ancient acrylics, even have a little gouache Ive never used. So many vids on YT, how to do this, or that & though plenty of stunning work, its usually always much harder than it seems cause brushstrokes, how much paint, how hard to press etc etc & often Ive found following peoples tutorials, makes it a bit hard to find your own voice as one tends to mimic the one we follow suit but then I found you & like others has said, this was quite easy to follow, while also making it "your own" way & with that, I made my first traditional painting in 25 years! lol So, I just wanna thank you for "unlocking my fear" to try it all again with this tutorial! Thank you from Sweden 😀

Hi Ruth, may I ask whats the brand and size of the flat brush that you use for painting the background? I need to get a nice flat brush thats good for blending gouache background colors.

What’s the differences between a petal brush and a cats tongue brush? I’ve never heard of the petal brush but when I googled it I got pics of a cats tongue brush
@RuthWilshaw
@RuthWilshaw 4 ай бұрын
It’s just a round brush with a super fine pointed tip. The cats tongue brushes are more often like a pointed flat oval 💕
