Parts of that slope are open to public even though they don't maintain it. Went there and I can't imagine going at the speed they do, and I'm actually good at skiing. Just the strength in your legs you need for something like this is far beyond what most people are capable of.

I used to race and even with all the training and experience I had, racing something like Kitz is impressive and something I couldn’t even have attempted. You really have to be one of the best to do it. I miss going 70+ mph on skis.

Good lord, this looks more like the place paraplegics are made. That’s scary lookin as hell. But I also suck at skiing to the point of embarrassment lol.

When I was on my college team, there was a couple from Germany that had a magazine with photos of someone who hit the fence in a Europa Cup race so hard, they got torn in half lengthwise. Absolutely horrific stuff. Fortunately they stopped using mesh fencing on the bottom of the fences, so people are less likely to get caught in the fences and suffer such injuries. It’s a fun but dangerous sport.

It IS. The greatest sport on earth. Even at the level I did it, it was amazing! Being at the WC level is a whole other thing (some of the people I skied with did go to that level; including Tommy Moe and several other people who skied on the US Team. I started too late myself).

@@Zohdiak Most retire by the early 30s. But Johan Clarey of France is still racing at 40. Since he hit 100 mph at Wengen, they’ve slowed the races slightly by changing the courses. They were getting too fast. Like at Kitzbuehl, they used to ski straight down the last jump before racing across the side hill, but they had to add turns before it because no human could go straight over it now; they would just fly hundreds of feet. That’s how much faster they’ve gotten with better skis and technique and the grooming of the courses.
