Thanks for this post, while watching I recalled giving away 2017 glow in dark toonies to grand kids in that year , had to run to my misc. Canadian box , nice to see I kept a couple nice ones for myself. Search as I might I could not find a 1996 beaded in there however I will be watching my pocket change more closely !

Love the Toonie. I have an awesome book. I started to buy graded and mint specimens about 10 years ago. I am only missing a couple, the Beaded one & a good German Planchet. My personal fav is the Green coloured Army helmet. Another Great video. You have vastly improved. Congratulations Mr. Dan 😎

Very interesting! I checked the only toonie I have (2015) and it's probably counterfeit. There's no raised maple leaf -- or anything at all! -- above the Queen's head. The disc with her head is also turning black. There are very visible fine circular scratches on the Queen side in the silver blank areas. (I looked at with a jeweler's loupe but they're visible to the naked eye.) The raised rims on both sides are irregular and look dented everywhere. Thanks for the video!

I remember when this came out in 1996. I was 10. My teacher held a competition to name the Toonie. There were some weird names. But someone came up with Doubloonie. I still call it that every now and then to throw people off. Usually elicits a double take.

Awhile ago you had said in a video that the darker colored toonies with a greasy feel were probably forgeries so I put them back in circulation. NOW you're saying it's a German planchet and worth money. Thanks so very much

When these first came out you could easily pop out the center on some of them. Lol. I flipped the center and popped it back in backwards on a few of them as a kid.

I've been watching your videos and would like you to give me some feedback on a 5c Canadian coin that I have from 2003. It displays a dye error on both the front and back of the coin. I've taken some photos with a digital microscope of the coin and would like to know where I can send the pictures or take the coin it to have it appraised to ensure that it is a dye error

One coin to beware of isn't specifically a counterfeit, but it can be passed off as a 2 buck Canadian coin. It's the Dominican Republic 10 peso coin. It's also a bimetallic coin with a gold coloured centre and a silver outer rim. But it's only worth around 25 cents Canadian depending on the exchange rate. These probably end up here because tourism to the Dominican Republic is common, but it's not impossible some get deliberately used.

Found one in my change today, a 1996 that the weight is spot on but the centre part is blank on the Queen side. Have u seen this before?

I was looking through my change and found that I had a bunch of 96 toonies but none of them with the beads but I have a 2022 toonie and it's outside ring is black and have never seen another one like it so I sit it on the side just in case it's a rare or counterfeit coin.

I was wondering, did you know that from that first production, if you stuck a tooni in the freezer, leave it in their for a while take it out and throwing it to the floor made the center piece pop right out. It was a flaw in the pressing, the government asked people to hand them in and get new ones but how many people really handed them in? Did you know that fact, if the new clips from then could be found from back then it could prove it.

I remember getting my first bank card in the early 90's & being excited that I didn't have to carry around heavy change or dirty money in my purse anymore, lol, I'm a girly girl... & that it would be so convenient to receive my pay & pay out for everything & then over the years the banks & corps starting rewarding you with points for free stuff just for using them instead of cash... now 30 years later... the govt has come out with new coins, new bills that costs billions to make... if they really wanted us to use only digital money would they keep producing the cash... really... even impoverished countries keep producing new cash that the majority of their populations only use... but they are trying to get them to trust & switch to plastic also... this world makes me laugh... it's so hypocritical & ironic... & also with the intro of crypto now... a mix of the two, a hybrid was born... & now they speak of producing all new money with the new king's face... billions more cost... meanwhile we are in crisis of housing, food, fuel, migrants moving around globally... what are the priorities... none... everyone surviving for themselves unfortunately & a huge inequality of wealth & just everyday basic wage survival for most! I've also realized now that the billionaires can control us more digitally... sadly in bad ways... that it's good to always keep cash in your purse... because at times even my favourite coffee shop's digital registers are down & I can only get a drink with cash... as in twice this past month already & when I travel in many countries... you get better lower prices for everything you pay in cash... even here sometimes in Canada! Thanks for the good coin tips... as I restock my new piggy bank... with rare coins now, lol!

And you can't go by the grainy. Look on the nineteen 1996 toonie because the mint had hired a german company , and a lot of the two ones were struck on german plantates , which looked like they have a wood , green orlines going through the material

It was triggered by the devaluing of the dollar, the same reason we got rid of the penny.

The reason for these coin is that paper notes are considered a debt, sort of pay-to-the-order of - coins are not considered bank-notes or debt jr
