We continuing our visit to Indianapolis with a look at the Victorian home of President Benjamin Harrison. Harrison is typically ranked low as a president, but our visit to his home gave us pause. Regardless, this is a fascinating place with TONS of interesting presidential relics. Definitely one to watch to the end!!!

The note from Helen Keller was truly special. Consider she spent her young life trapped in her head, unable to communicate with others. The letter she sent, which you so kindly read for us, was a gem.

Are you kin to the Harrisons that were mayors of Chicago? Carter H. Harrison Sr. and Jr. I read they were related to the president.

I wonder how much land Harrison owned around his home when he was alive, it saddens me that a busy street is right at his doorstep. Beautiful home, glad there are so many original pieces still there. 👍🏼

Sad to say that I lived near Indianapolis for 20 years and never visited this home. What a treasure! Thank you for highlighting President Harrison and teaching us more about him.

I'm near the Nixon and 😅 Reagan Libraries but I'll probably never visit them either. I used to visit a part of the Reagan Ranch. Western; wH where there; was a playground with a ton of hay bales to play on and snacks.

Fabulous show, thank you for sharing. As it happens the Harrisons are distant relatives. I'd heard uncle & nephew but thanks to you its grandparents. My grandmother's madian name was Harrison.

Right now they're talking about reparations I think the reparations have already been paid back in full with the blood of the white soldiers that fought through free them our forefathers wanted them free from the beginning of this country with the declaration of Independence but two states wouldn't sign so it was not you anonymous so it was removed and remember Jefferson legally couldn't free his own slaves it was forbidden by Virginia law The original draft of the would have abolished slavery

The 54th was the second ALL BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN INFANTRY which fought combat valiantly in the American Civil War! Your comment dishonours those men and their families as well as this NATION to which they served and gave the last full measure of devotion!!!

I am addicted to history. I live in Indy but have only driven by this house. The street is one great house after another. I have read extensively about Wm. Henry Harrison. He is pretty much the villain in every old western in the flesh. Obviously his grandson didn't steal all the natives land but he lived off the reputation. Allan Eckhart wrote a series of great books describing the move west and the settling of the colonies, Ky, In etc. Great stuff.

The whole tour was wonderful, but there were three things that really caught my eye. I always enjoy the kitchen area, especially wood cook stoves. Second was Mrs. Harrison was a very talented Artist. And last but surely not least, The Presidents beautiful bed!! As a former wood worker the craftsmanship, no "Artistry" of that is incredible! I could only venture a guess how long it would take to create such a work! I appreciate seeing this! Thank you. On a side note, my three brothers and I were all born at St. Vincent's hospital, Down town Indianapolis.

One of my favorite tours ever. The letter from Helen Keller was amazing. I learned so much touring the Harrison’s beautiful home. I really enjoyed the history of all the inhabitants one as much as the others I, too was wanting to hear more of the quilts on the beds as I have done only a small amount of quilting since I started so late in life. Makes me wish I had started earlier in life. Thanks so much for all you do and for allowing me to go along on your tours. Texas 🇺🇸

Had a 10th grade history teacher who made History so exciting bc he told the vivid stories like he loved them. First time in a country girls life I thought to THINK of important Events in our past and what we learned.

Both hubby and myself are retired AF veterans and (when he retired Active and I transferred AD to ANG till I retired in '96) we shopped at the Commissary and BX once a month. Now its mostly a Finance Center only. Sad that there's really no military support for retired veterans. They've taken away so many benefits that we were promised upon enlisting. And with Biden and Harris in office; it will turn worse. . .they want to give more money, benefits and free health to illegal aliens than to the veterans that defended our country. Its an upside down world out there.

Wow! What a house. I kind of wish the neighborhood around it could look as it did back when the Harrisons lived there. Thank you for taking me on a virtual tour. Oh - and the Reginaphone - I'm amazed that it still plays and the tour guide was willing to play it. The sound just filled the room. I have an LP of recordings of different music boxes, one of which is a Reginaphone, and I play that album every Christmas. And I agree with you, that it wouldn't be bad to have another president like Benjamin Harrison in the White House. We so need honesty in our leaders today.

I am so grateful to you for your historical videos. I hated history in school. But spending time doing genealogical research American history became personal and very real. Part of my family arrived in Jamestown in 1700. They participated in the Rev War and the Civil War. (And all other wars until Desert Storm). If I had had history teachers like you I might have been smitten with the history bug earlier. Just recently,another channel on You Tube, "Paper and Moose" purchased a box of stuff at an estate sale. In the box were 3 hand written Civil War diaries written by a Union Captain. Can you imagine? Your mind is racing to comprehend just like the rest of us!! Again, I sincerely thank you for the time and effort put into your videos. I did get to the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg and got to walk Pickets Charge where so many of my Southern relatives died. They died together. It was a somber,poignant, sad, and magical place.

Where ever That town would be, means I would probably be living in the historical district of that town. My historical district is gorgeous!

There is a channel here on KZfaq called The Second Empire Strikes Back, and the man on there purchased the home of a man named Charles Brown (no, not the school kid with the black and white beagle!) whose ancester was the reason for the name of Brownsville (?) in New Jersey. He owned the local wood tool plant in St. Louis, and he had quite the history. This man is restoring this old Victorian mansion and plans to live in it. Quite interesting.

What a beautiful home! I love the architecture and that front porch is to die for. I grew up close to the Harry Truman home in Independence Mo. you could often drive by and wave at him on his front porch. He carried the weight of those atomic bombs on his shoulders til the day he died

Additional observation. Gas lighting, no phones, no TV, no cable, no radio. What a serene existence. Nothing but the clip clop of horses pulling wagons outside on the street. Once on Mackinac Island where cars are not allowed, we awoke in a private home one summer morning. Nothing electrical was needed nor turned on at the time. I awoke to the sound I described above. A magical moment for me, a daily occurrence for them. I envy them.

Amazing as always! I had no idea of President Harrison’s contributions as well as his wife’s extreme artistic talents. Please take a look at the home of James Madison. It is called Montpelier. There’s quite a transformation. If you google James Madison’s home you can click the images. Look for the Colonial Williamsburg link. It has all the images of how it started out, on up. We toured it years ago and it will take your breath away. This would be a great subject for probably a video or two. Blessings!

I toured this house back in the 90's. One of my favorite President homes. I brought some hollyhock seeds home with me and planted in my garden. I suppose Caroline planted them. Also visited the James Whitcomb Riley home there. Another beautiful home.

I stumbled across this video and am so glad I did. We've gone by the I-65 exit saying "Benjamin Harrison Home" so many times, but have never stopped. I'm even a born Hoosier and didn't know all this. Now old and in a sort of covid lockdown in a rural area I'm so thankful to be able to travel because you took the time to go there. Thank you so much.

This was a very interesting tour. It's too bad you missed the opportunity to speak about the antique quilts that were on the beds and in the cribs. It would have been nice to see the quilt in the crib a little better since it looked like it fit the crib thus perhaps it is 200 years old. Thank you for sharing! I do enjoy your videos.

My grandparents in Minnesota had a sterling silver and crystal pickle jar, which they used until they died. They were not rich by any means. It was a gift to my great grandparents, who would have lived around that same time. Keep in mind, pickles way back when, were often canned in barrels and/or huge crocks, not table-top jars. So the fancy pickle jar was not only pretty, but useful as well.

That house fits my personality. Totally BEAUTIFUL IN EVERY WAY. Kind of felt like I lived there. The stairs, the carpet of the stairs and all the furniture and colors. I truly have never seen a house so beautiful in my life...Thank you. I Love your channel

I liked everything about this home! I am from Grand Rapids Mi., home of Gerald Ford, we have a great big presidential museum for him but I tell you nothing compares to a home like this. Very interesting and now I want to learn more about this president so thank you 😊

Hello, I'm a new subscriber from Al, I love anything to do with history, the letter from Hellen Keller brought tears to my eyes, I live in the same county where the Hellen Keller School for the Blind is built, I had just heard a small bit of information on President Harrison a few weeks ago, yes he seemed to be one of the greats, what an amazing home, thanks for sharing, I'm loving your channel

We were more genuine as a society in his era. What a family too. A family that helped build this country. Amazing

This is the second video that I have seen. I really liked it. Yesterday I watched the video about the Vice President’s house and the tour of the embassies. I lived and worked in the D C area but never saw the embassies. It was very interesting. I will continue to watch your videos.

I’m still trying to catch my breath. I’m just in awww. That home was absolutely beautiful n I could of lived in that time except I’d want inside plumbing for a bathroom 😊. I am so happy that you went there n shared it all. It was amazing to see all that furnishings so well preserved. Oh, those stairs with that beautiful light at the beginning. I love every second of this n many thank you’s. I would love to gone there but unfortunately my husband has dementia n I can’t travel with him like that. It was our desire when we retired to travel to all these historical places. So thankful I found your channel through Robert “ sidestep adventures “. ♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰

I don't know if you're still in the Indiana area but if you are you might want to head over to crawfordsville. That is where the Lew Wallace study is. If you don't know anything about Lew Wallace, he kind of packed in several careers in one lifetime. He was a civil war general, he was a ambassador to the Ottoman empire, he was Governor in the New Mexico territory and he also wrote the best-selling novel Ben Hur. He was a lawyer also and grew up in the crawfordsville area.
