Alex Kelsey's "MadCreations2," a home-built rally car is simply one of the fastest, one of the coolest vehicles we've ever seen. And he's more than happy to show us just how insane the performance is on a closed rally stage in the Coromandel Peninsula. With a one-off chassis, a home built suspension, a 1000kg body and a 450 HP RenaultSport V6, this road legal rally car is simply beyond belief.

MK and LM Hampshire Regardless if he sources the money from his parents or not, I say that’s a bloody well good use of money, and I think they’d agree too. Look at the publicity he’s gotten from these documentaries, all the sponsorship opportunities. A lot of the parts he made in house, he could end up making a business out of that now. So even if he did get the money from his parents, he used it wisely - why complain about that?

I wonder if he's ever heard of a guy named John Britten ? He was another New Zealander that didn't listen when people told him that he can't build his own motorcycle from scratch. Well he did, and the only item he didn't make himself, was the gearbox. He used a cassette type gear box from a Suzuki GSX-R, but fabricated every single other part of the bike himself, in his home shop. He took it to Daytona that year and entered it in the race against factory race bikes, and was winning when his battery went for a shit. Unfortunately, he died from cancer before he had a chance to try again. The guy was an absolute genius. So don't say this Kelsey fella couldn't have done it himself. I may be remembering some of this wrong, so look it up if you want to read about an amazing man. The Britten V1000.

Richard Mogel Well you kind of do need a lot of money. How much do you think a decent CNC machine costs that allows you to build parts at home with some acceptable levels of accuracy? More than an average family car. This entire build probably cost him well over 1 million dollars.

derbigpr500 I seen an awful lot of manual machines in there and I know what a good machine cost you can get into a well equipped tormach p cnc for 20. In my 30's I took an 1959 Austin Healey Mk 1 Sprite (Bug Eyed Sprite (Frog Eyed Sprite in the UK)) and rebuilt the car. A friend rebuilt the body and I did the electricals, drivetrain, dash, interior and wiring harness. What I ended up with was a car that perfectly embodied the awesomeness of a 427 Cobra in appearance and performance but miniaturized into a 1200 pound car that was street legal but could surpass 150 MPH. It only had a 1275 CC Engine from the original series of engines (Austin Mini Series) with special modifications that allowed 9000 rpm and 90 plus horsepower. It was 5 3/4 inches off the ground and too fun to drive. I really understand the excitement and awesomeness of what you have done although you have outdone my efforts at every turn, it is an amazing accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself. I only had about 10 grand into my effort. I can't imagine what yours cost, but I bet it was worth every penny.

This means the car needs a variable turbo so it can deliver 300hp too at like 3000ft · Type of engine = 2000cc 4-cylinder turbo, doesn't matter if it's inline, boxer or whatever · Minimum weight = I always mess it up but I think it's around 1230kg
