I am so grateful you did this video! I have tried the "typical" hooded eye tutorial countless times, and I thought I was just not skilled enough to make it work. Now I'm realizing that technique doesn't suit my type of hooded eye. I'm excited to try this technique since we have very similar eye shapes. Thank you!

Same! I thought I just really sucked at following tutorials, but now I see a big part of it is that even the standard hooded eye tutorials look bad on my eyes. I'm so thankful for these videos. Total game changer!

Loving the tutorial. IAs a more mature woman i follow those youtubers and all their titorials follow your texhnique. I think the OTT cut crease is made by younger youtubers. I got fed up with the young crowd cos it doesnt relate to my face and needs.

Your 100% right about this....."usual /typical" way just doesnt work for heavier hooded lids. I think a lot of confusion comes from the tutorials being made, they are by girls that really just don't have our type of (heavier) eye...or they don't have hooded eyes at all! .....So glad to see you sharing your knowledge, it's so nice seeing eyes/looks that I can actually recreate! Keep up the amazing work !

Thank you so much. I have puffy hooded eyes. I have found too that using the very dark shade above the crease, makes my eyes look very weighted and too heavy.- it’s a harsh look when done this way. No more carving out the eye-crease for me.

I SAW Stephanie Lange and she has a technique that she calls " dome shape eyeshadow ", I follow her tutorial ( there's a few showing from natural style to heavy /night style) IT is easy to follow, and fellows puffy- hooded -eyelid people can really learn to do .

s4andy63 it's a puffy hood and it's more puffy in the inner eye...i have the same and it's a deep set hooded eye and I think that's where this different type of hooded comes from . Like Stephanie Lange has hooded eye but hers are not deeper so the not good so to say technique works for a hood like that. It's so hard to explain unless you have it.

You are quickly moving up the ranks to become one of my favorite KZfaqrs! I am LOVING these tips! Another favorite tip I've picked up is to not be afraid to really bring my transition shades up higher than what I see in tutorials. I can always go back with my brow bone highlight and make it pop, but carrying that gradation much higher up the lid really helps my hood recede. I've never quite mastered the outer V though, so this is SUPER helpful! Thanks for another great video!

Regarding the "outer V", I am learning to get the shadow on the tip of my brush, then jam it into my socket (outer corner area) and blend it where I need it from there. This way the shadow is applied directly to where the depth of the eye naturally occurs. I hope I'm making sense. I have no idea how to make a video. But I wish I did to post to on Instagram so others can learn along with me. I have mature hooded eyes. Young hooded eyes differ from mature hooded eyes in that the older skin has more sag to it. Ahhh to be in a young body again! Oh well....those days are gone so I am learning how to work with what I have now! : )

Yes, subtle difference but I have definitely experienced this and wondered why my eyes looked so heavy/muddy! Now I realize, it’s days when I blended dark colors too far up and in. I think those of use with hooded eyes just fear if we don’t bring it up and in enough, you won’t be able to see the color. Your tutorials are so clear and understandable. Thank you for taking the time to make them!

this is legit the only hooded eye tutorial I have ever seen that actually works. You hit the nail on the head about how deepening the crease on a hooded eye makes it look heavy and weird. The heaviest part of my hood is towards the inside of my eye like yours and I'm guessing that's why it doesn't work for some of us. This is so incredibly helpful and my eye makeup looks like I've always wanted it too. So happy I stumbled across this that I subscribed as soon as I finished watching.

Thanks for sharing. I like both eyes. The "good eye" looks like more of a day look, and the "bad eye looks like more of an evening look. It's interesting to see the subtle differences. I think the heaviness you mentioned was more evident when viewing your face from an angle instead of head on, but I still think it looked pretty. In a darker color, I can see how it could become really heavy.

You not only have the same hooded lids as me but also higher brows than most....thank God im not the only one! Have you not noticed how much lower everyone else's brows are? Well this is amazing! I'm 63 with very hooded eyes; my puffy hoods are almost on my lash line, barely any actual lid space showing (ugh!). When I was in high school and 20's/30's, I believe my eye shape was more like yours is now. I've watched so many videos on how to do eyeshadow for hooded eyes and mature hooded eyes and this is the first time I've ever seen your method, and how much sense it actually makes! Your "bad" eye looks very pretty when you're looking down but I can see what you mean about the heaviness it creates when you're looking straight on vs. the lighter, less weighted look of your "good" eye looking straight on, which lets face it, is how our eyes are seen most of the time unless we're in super flirt mode most of our waking hours! lol Anyway, genius tip, and I'm definitely going to try this on my old hoods. I've never been satisfied with how my eyes look going with the "normal hooded eyes tutorial mode" for hooded eyes, I think because most gals still had way more lid space to work with even with their hoods, and it just made my hoods look even heavier and puffier. I think this will really make a difference for me! Happy days!!! Thank you so much and I have subscribed to your channel.

I have this exact same issue and this was exactly the tutorial I needed. Thank you! At the beginning it looks like your right eyebrow is also thicker than the left, further closing off the eye.

Finally...thank you. I'm still learning how to apply make up for my hooded eyes. One is more hooded than the other ( the side I favour more sleeping on is more hooded). Unfortunately I have been doing the bad eye technique and I always seem to not be happy with it I feel it looks heavy! Now I know why, I'm going to reteach myself how you do it. Thank you!!

I thought that I'm crazy that I don't like the way eyeshadow looks on me when I do it as they say in those tutorials! I'm glad I discovered your channel 😊

Wow! I just found your channel and I’ve gotta try this. My eyes are very heavily hooded and puffy. All the hooded eye tutorials I see on KZfaq are on people with more deep set, less heavy lids. So glad I found you!

I also have a habit of raising by brows, I do it subconsciously. Thank you for the tips. I’m starting to get interested in eye makeup and I’ll be following these techniques for my hooded eye.

This was super helpful! I’ve been struggling with the crease. Often find that some days it looks good and others it looks awful and have never quite put my finger on why but just realized that the days it looks worse is when I bring it too far in!

I cannot thank you enough!!! ...finally someone I can relate to and is showing a proper way to do heavy hooded eyes. Darker transition shades makes my hooded eyes look 10 times worse also.

I have heavily hooded eyes too & I think when it comes to eyeshadow application it’s really about tweaking the technique to fit in a way where it’s most flattering for your particular eye. The technique you’re describing is almost exactly what I do too. I can’t carve my lids out & bring the darker shadow all the way across or too far above my natural crease either - for the same reasons. I think of all eye shapes, hooded is very tricky because it takes very little to find ourselves backpedaling & creating something unflattering.

THANK YOU! Finally someone who addresses this on KZfaq! I´ve always wondered if it didn´t make more sense to put a lighter color eyeshadow in the crease, because the shadows of the hooded eyes are already so dark... but I wasn´t sure, because all of the hooded eyes tutorials said to do it differently :D now I know I was right :D

Great tutorial! I have puffy heavy hooded meaty eyelid. I usually do my shadow like the not so good side, and then instinctively go over the darken hood with transition color to make it softer and more flattering. Now I know why I always felt the need to add that extra step, and actually don't need to do it anymore. I could just narrow down the area of the crease.that gets deepened. Thank you so much. I am subscribing. I finally found someone who has similar eye shape.

That’s is so funny! When I was in college I did my makeup like this but with low quality makeup and after graduating started to try the cut crease method on the left which just wouldn’t look good on my eyes. Thank you for highlighting this!!!!! Love that this is my first video on your channel- new subbie!!!
