Another top quality production gentlemen. You have rapidly moved into a league of your own when it comes to professional video updates etc. Not referring to hobbyists who make their own of their layouts etc. Love the format, brilliant production and engaging. Thank you again. Only slight problem with this one, is the amount of items Hornby have released that tick the boxes. Dread to think how much the 'would like' list will tally up to................. However, really good to see this from Hornby as it hasn't always been like this. Thank you, Rob

hi, excellent presentation guys as always, I remember the cover painting as I had a copy of the 1971 edition produced in landscape format back then as I remember. If memory serves you will find the mouse, present in all Cuneo railway paintings, on the telegraph pole disguised as one of the wire insulators I think, a great painting for a great lineup. Stay safe.

Brilliantly put together video gents. I've already gone and pre-ordered my City of Leicester coronation class from the hornby Dublo range before they sell out everywhere so if you don't get one for review you can borrow mine if you wish. Very tempted to get the class 56, 88DS in BR blue, all the box vans they are producing, and the class 08 as well but not sure on that yet. It's a very good range from this year but it will always be hard to beat the centenary year. I would have liked some more class 153s as well, hopefully next year. Keep up the good work and stay safe Cheers James

The p2s are very much welcomed and I'd be after all 3 of them. Was really hoping for a DC rail class 60 in grey. But that's not the end of the world. And mk4s finaly getting announced aswell. Thanks Hornby Magazine for doing this video. Out of the Hornby 2021 Range I only like two products there are Hornby R60039 20T NCB (Ex LMS) Brake Van, Hornby R60026 7 Plank Wagon, Lowe & Warwick. Is the steampunk range dead as there was not talking about it in the Hornby 2021 Announcements Hornby Magazine? But Hornby Magazine I'm not happy with Hornby doing the 4 and 6 wheel carriages as I feel so bad for Hattons as they had to announce that Hornby 6 wheel and 4 wheels coach would be in competition with their one. Hatton is one of there biggest customers that Hornby has. I will still buy the Hatton's one as they look 10 times better than the Hornby ones. As the Hatton's one give you the choice to have light plus they run super well as seen in Sam'sTrains and Jennifer e. kirk video. They also have adjustable wheelsets on 6 wheel coaches for tight curves plus if you don't like super details some can be removed. Hattons Give people a better choice with Livery and R7338 Maglight for 4/6 Wheeled Coaches only give 200 Hours and there 24 in one day so if I played no stop I only got 8-9 to days. But with the Hatton one, there's, not a limit meaning I could use these to the end of time. I know the Hatton coaches with lights cost £36 which is a little more, that is it there are no batteries to replace like with the Hornby one! But keep safe Hornby Magazine in these hard times.

@@PeggyDez some time you can tell by looking at I photo. The body looks like cheap plastic. The bodywork has a gap at the back where the windows. The handrail looks like someone has just put gold paint on them but not I nice see-through gold metal paint job. This wants I think as you can see the model on Hornby Magazine youtube videos under (Hornby's six-wheel carriage)The inside is a good job, Hornby. But you do get a choice to have light or not light with the Hatton one. Plus there give the customer I better choice of livery. (1. Plus you get an 18-pin decoder socket in lit models for digital control) (2. give you a choice with Detailing Optional lower footboards) 3. ( Centre wheelset on 6 wheel coaches slides for tight curves and is also removable ) But if you like it that good but I will be sticking with the Hatton one. But keep safe @PegasusDesigns and JBM in these hard times.

The Hornby A1 (2564) seems to be described as "Knight of Thistle" everywhere it appears in writing, online anyway, and you called it that too. The name was actually "Knight of 𝒕𝒉𝒆 Thistle". @steveluckhurst2350 3 жыл бұрын
@@hornbymag It's not the manufacturers job to cater for everyone. Their objective is to sell in volume, make a profit and stay in business. If Joe bloggs from Duckfart, Derbyshire is upset that they are not producing a specific piece of rolling stock in a specific livery, they're not interested until they get many hundreds of requests. At which point Joe and his cohorts will complain at the rrp without considering the tooling and development costs of such a small run. Hornby and their competitors are businesses, not some sort of charity striving to ensure that everything ever used on the railway is preserved in miniature. I think modellers sometimes lose track of that. It has now become an expensive hobby, largely because the product range is so wide and varied.

Think I'll be waiting for the Accurascale Mk5s for my caledonian sleeper rather than getting these new Mk4s, nice as they are. I see they've cleverly kept the Thomas & Percy models in the Railroad range with a generic repaint, quite rightly, may as well make use of what you've already got. The new Rocket set is great news after they badly mis-calculated demand last year. Though it seems an odd choice not to be selling any extra enclosed carriages separately. The P2 streamlined is a cool addition, but I wish they were releasing Cock O The North with the new tooling as well, as I've heard mixed things about the old version.

Disappointing we've reached over £200 RRP as the norm for a new loco, but all credit to Hornby for giving us a choice with the Railroad range though, their P2 Cock O' The North and the Crosti 9F are great models at sensible prices and the new Tornado looks fantastic - for £104 RRP. I really wish the other manufacturers would give us a little more choice in the detail / price pitch. I've always felt their rolling stock to be pretty fairly priced too - last year's Scotrail sliding door MK3s were fantastic at £30 a go. Although I appreciate from a business point of view why they do it, I share everyone's frustrations at the industry trend of making big announcements, scaring us into thinking we'll miss out if we don't pre-order unseen at pretty much full RRP (there is always stock available on release) and then having us wait for at least a year for items that never arrive anywhere near schedule. By all means give us a heads up, but maybe a few months before a much more realistic release date. A diverse and interesting collection of releases though, so all the best with them.

@@hornbymag Railroad used to be an odd-bin for outdated toolings, but recently they seem to be selling less detailed versions of modern toolings. This is a really smart move. We're told that's it's the separately fitted details / enhanced paintwork that increase production cost, so if they are producing a single basic tooling, but offering both a lower-cost 'Railroad' version (essentially the same model with less separately fitted detail) and a high priced super-detailed version of the same model, this is giving the market a choice and hedging Hornby's bets. Super-detailed models at £200 are pricing many of us out of the market. The other problem with super-detail is it's often too delicate. All the manufacturers need to be reminded that £100 is a lot of money and we quite rightly expect a good, but not necessarily super-detailed, modern model for that money. Hornby should be commended for offering us that choice (I think they are unique in the market for that) - it's good business for them and good for our hobby, particularly in making it accessible to newcomers. Be worth Bachmann having a look at this, they've got a massive range, including older toolings, many of which are appearing as bargain sell-offs. My model of 2020 was probably their Jubilee which I picked up for £100 new. I wasn't desperate for a Jube, but took a punt on it for that price. It's turned out to be one of my favourites.

All lovely but feel we are pricing too high for anything made in China. It is not made in Margate or Austria. So limiting the kind of people who can buy these. Sad really Hornby are killing their market still. They need to have three classes of product. 1. For everyone with pocket money and cheap. 2. For those with money for a higher quality. 3. Highest prices for those Collectors of Limited Editions etc and bottomless pockets. Nothing wrong with that. I still buy 90% of my stuff from EBAY because of price and availabilty. I remember buying a lovely New Mallard but it didnt come with a Corridor Tender as I thought it would have as saw on the real one. Also annoys me they wont produce Steam Locomotive Tenders just like everything else in the range especially A3 and A4 Corridor Tenders and the Second Tender too. So if I buy a Loco with a certain Tender I can buy another and swap. Just like they used to do in real life. Hornby need to listen to ALL their customers and stop catering just for the Elite. The PlayTrains is a definite start in the right direction. HORNBY are a treasure to Railway Modelling. Just wish they would stop mucking about with so many things and focus on the whole market properly. Oh well Good Luck to Hornby in 2021.

Hornby were going the right way when they first introduced the Railroad range, prices were pretty much spot on. Since then they've skyrocketed. Unfortunately the PlayTrains are IMO a step in the wrong direction - they're gimmicky kids toys, not models of real trains.

The 2020s have already been very kind to us Scotch modellers, with the Hatton's coaches, the Hornby -ripoffs- coaches, the Clans, the Thompson pacifics and the Terriers (yes, those did operate in Scotland). I just don't like how Hornby only now comes about with their 6 wheelers because Hatton's was very open about producing theirs and then Hornby comes in all "Hush Hush" and swoops the rug away beneath them.

@@stevenfoleyuk9404 You are aware that there's something called Covid-19 going around? Some of the work on new releases have been slowed as they can't get enough as they may like to work on it. They have to take their time. This is the same with pretty much every other model rail company, they take months to release their models and some even longer than Hornby. This is not bad business practice or bad treatment of customers, if anything it's good practice as they are making sure that the models are accurate, have no faults with the moulding and reliable and this takes time. There have been companies who've rushed models only to have numerous problems with them, thus recalling them and fixing them, that's not good practice. I'd rather wait to make sure they make a great model rather than having them rushing a faulty one. You need to learn to be patient mate.

Tescos. It would be great to see Hornby sold in supermarkets, with layout displays. I could watch that whilst the other half gets the groceries. Wish it was O gauge. @@rbeamish6492 I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on that òne. Models are indeed expensive, but I don't believe they are "overpriced". I believe that the price is high because of the relatively small market and hence low production runs for a highly intricate piece of machinery. It would be interesting to compare the cost of a loco as a proportion of average weekly wage with its counterpart 20, 30, 40 years ago. Has modelling become elitist? Sadly I think you may be right, but then the layouts which we see in the magazines and at exhibitions are indeed the best of the best and are therefore literally "elite." The popularity of the magazines and, when available, exhibitions, show that the hobby is still strong with many people aspiring to achieve a layout such as Minsterly, New Junction, Lakeside or countless others. You mentioned in another thread that you joined the hobby 12 years ago, but with the greatest of respect I have to tell you that you are still a mere beginner!

When manufacturing was all sent to China, we were told it was to keep manufacturering costs down. Assuming that has been successful, they sure aren't passing any of that saving on to customers. I accept that the detail is there, but prices of up to £300 for a 4-6-2 is insane. Especially if you then add DCC or DCC plus sound you're then looking near on £400.
