The vocalist Paul Heaton and drummer Dave Hemingway formed English band The Beautiful South. They released a lot of great material. Song For Whoever, You Keep It All In, A Little Time, Dumb, Don't Marry Her, Liars Bar and Rotterdam (or Anywhere) to mention a few.

The House Martins had a number big hits in the UK before splitting up, the Bass player Norman Cook went on to found Beats International who had the hit (Dub) be Good To Me, though he is better known as Fatboy Slim, (weapon of choice is famous for having Christopher Walken in the music video). the singer Paul Heaton went on to found The Beautiful South who had numerous hits including “You keep it all in, A Little Time,Don’t Marry Her” which many people didn’t realise that the single was a clean version of the song including a Radio 1 DJ who played it live to the UK only to discover the album version is full of F-Bombs, the band split in 2007 though Paul continued with a solo career and performed at this year’s Glastonbury Festival

This song is a perfect example of where the song sounds upbeat and happy and the lyrics don't exactly match. "The song “Happy Hour” is a commentary on the superficiality and emptiness of the happy hour culture in England during the 1980s. The lyrics poke fun at the idea that people are happy and carefree during happy hour, but in reality, they are just trying to escape their mundane lives and pretend to be something they’re not. The song also touches on the theme of feeling miserable in a happy hour, with the protagonist feeling like they don’t fit in and are just going through the motions."

The Housemartins always sound fun, but do pay attention to the lyrics, they're very vocal about their ideas. This song is about hypocrisy, and the lines about women are criticizing that type of thinking. Try some of their other songs, lots of socialism there ;)
