I think the Move was an astute and fitting choice here. To me, the heavy trend started on their second album, Shazam. Their third, Looking On, intensified the trend - it includes “Brontosaurus”, which, as you might expect, is a lumbering behemoth of a track. Cheap Trick covered that one too.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are both my favorite Black Sabbath albums, and the prog elements have a big part to do with that. But I do have to say that Black Sabbath had little touches of prog even from the beginning. They really never had much of a use for simple pop verse-chorus-verse-chorus song structures.

This crossover video was a lot of fun. It was SOT's travel into Multiverse the way I see it. I'd like to see more of this combination, but I'm not sure what you could do, unless you compare styles of an individual. You already started to by mentioning Lemmy and Townshend. Just throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks. What I truly enjoyed was the exchanges back-and-forth on the choices offered. Some stated their case, and basically remained queit, but most had a healthy exchange of ideas. Totally loved the inclusion of the 70's. More to listen to.

Loving the balance on the new album Fauna better. Rush- Caress of Steel/2112. Is this not the birth of Prog Metal? Maybe King Crimson Red in 1974. Faith No More- Angel Dust. This album is so many things: Funky, Psychedelic, Prog, Heavy and Hard Rock and stinky and scary. Of all their albums this one has stood the test of time.

Haven’t started listening to this video. I definitely will. Its subject relates to my discussion. This might be of interest to those of this channel. I’m reading the book The Musical Human by Michael Spitzer (highly recommend it). This morning’s lesson had me thinking of Sea of Tranquility/ Hudson Valley Squares. Briefly, let me first say, I love Hudson Valley Squares (HVS), but I listen as an outsider. I’m often at odds with it. Unlike most of the personalities here who embraced Metal in the 80s, I was a Hard Rock purist who rejected Metal in the 80s. I only later softened my stance, and accepted Metal. So today’s lesson in the book was all about the older tradition of the lyre (a singed instrument) and the New Music of the aulos (a double pipe instrument) in ancient Greek. How does this relate to SoT/HVS? Surprisingly well, actually. The lyre is associated with Greek philosophers, wisdom, order. Think of Athens. Maybe think of Prog too. The aulos is connected with disorder, wildness, drunkenness… Dionysus, dancing & chanting in a circular pattern. Think of Sparta. The aulos has a deep roaring sound that the Greek old guard found terrifying. At this point in the study I started thinking of Metal, that scene I was not part of in my youth. I thought of all the stories of terrifying music and drunken behavior I hear all the time on HVS, which I did not engage in back in my youth. I’m not putting anything down, just pointing out that as an outsider I often shake my head in wonder over all the stories of disorderly music and behavior I hear on HVS… as an Athenian would the New Music of the aulos. The lesson also got into Greek tragedy, played to the aulos, featuring sacrifice and violence. Why do people find violence entertaining the book asked. That brought to my mind how many of the HVS personalities are also Horror fans and do a Horror podcast. I am not a Horror fan. It often amazes me how sensible people regard violence as entertaining (again, not putting anyone down, only pointing it it's something I don't get). I think after this lesson I will view SoT/HVS in a deeper light. Should mention, I am an amateur cartoonist. For a while now I’ve planned to introduce characters, as Metal fans, into my cartoon strip based on HVS personalities. Yes, Pete, you are one of them. Is this portrayal going to be flattering... well... well... let's say that will play out in all this business between the order of the lyre and the disorder of the aulos, and my youthful experience (view point) tended to be orderly (ie. not Metal). I don't want to cast any of you in a negative way, but the story demands I play the conflict up, and it is truthful to how I listen to HVS. I wouldn't worry, Pete. No one reads my strip anyway. This lesson fits perfectly into that (Dionysusian) storyline.
@stevenleblanc9628

by the way, I watched a KZfaq video of a guy playing the aulos. Damn, it was beautifully unnerving. Maybe more Metal players should study the instrument.

Topic request: Discovering the Back Catalog. A band puts out albums for years and you just start listening to them now -- and your mind is blown. Not just by that album, but by most of the albums in their back catalog. Why didn't you listen to this band until now? Did their album art always put you off or something? Also, going through their back catalog you don't have the same expectations as career-long fans when their albums came out (so for example you'd be listening to Club Ninja with probably more openness than the fans at the time did).

George is legit my new favorite panel member of all time after hearing him mention Avenged Sevenfold’s The Stage. I’m a huge Avenged fan and The Stage is my favorite album from them. Title track is my favorite song from them and Exist is another outstanding epic. Get Pete to listen to this album George, I think he’d enjoy it quite a bit!

I tried to give it to him when we did our Homework Assignment show together. Did not interest him!

@@georgelamie7001 Very unfortunate. I think just hearing the band’s name turns people off immediately because of the bad rap they get. Like you said they’ve definitely had some misfires like their black album “tribute” but The Stage is easily the best thing they’ve done. Oh well, more for us I guess haha.

Great show! I laughed out loud at the story from the Count about partying on the bus. That was awesome. Some cool Bands discussed! ✌️

I gave Univers Zero a try based on this. It's a no go for me. To each their own I guess.
