Best....episode....yet! Hilarious, raunchy, surprises between the Squares themselves. insanity and great, great fun! So what if you love many of the albums chosen by The Squares [and I do]. this episode was hilarious. It reminds me of hitting my teenage years in the 60s and expressing the opinion that I was sick of all the Elvis Presley movies and what was so great about so many of the songs anyway. Caught some grief for that. But this is like sitting with a bunch of friends who know they are going to tell some items that will shock some of their friends. Very special props to Sydney for being the first to 'share her dark secret' - particularly just to see Pete's jaw hit the floor - but little did she know what was to come. And follow-up props to Nick for his own description of the sound of music that he tends to love. Too many spit-takes for me to even think about but I will be watching this episode again when I need a good laugh. The only downside was the absence of Steve Keeler but since he owns and operates a record store, maybe best that he was elsewhere for this. Thanks to every single one of you for surprising us and making us laugh at the same time. Beers and bourbon for everyone!

Yes sir! Bob Dylan is hands down the greatest lyricist to inhabit the planet (and any others, Jupiter, Saturn, all of em'! I could simply read Dylan's lyric sheets with NO music playing and STILL be completely mesmerized by his otherworldy storytelling, soul baring honesty and just complete overall mastery of language and imagery! Peeps need to get over their hatred of his voice and realize that his vocals are half of the story-his odd voice works perfectly with his singular writing talent and he is also a damn fine musician. He is required listening in every way imaginable, a rare genius who simply communicates to us all on another level-I tell non believers to force themselves to listen to him and they'll "get it" in most cases, otherwise, as a music fan, you have a giant hole in your library! And THE BAND are really without peer, especially "Music From Big Pink" , "The Band" and "Stage Fright" which are as good as music gets, incredible musical interplay, arrangements and chemistry, with lyrical genius as each song could really be made into a freakin' movie! Learn more listening to The Band than I ever did in history class. And the vocals.......mesmerizing! The Band is the very definition of a "musicians band" as they completely exude intelligence, soul and craft. Again, people have to listen to them a few times, probably more, to fully absorb the subtle, nuanced relationship between the instruments and singing. Bon Jovi (who I respect as a man, great work ethic and does have his heart in it) just can't sing and except for "Runaway" his catalog is about as interesting as studying the sleeping habits of Sloths while watching paint dry in the background.

I love Rush but I can understand why someone would find them hard to get into. The first time I heard Geddy sing in the mid 1970s I thought I was playing the record at the wrong speed! Then I realised it was the right speed and that was his actual voice and I thought wow that's weird!
@billymac72
@billymac72 3 жыл бұрын
Geddy’s voice is make or break, plain and simple. People either seem to love him or hate him. I was a kid when Moving Pictures came out, which was probably my first exposure to them. And then there is the Great White North album that I listened to a lot. I thought his voice was unique and very cool sounding, but I didn’t get deep into them until I heard a friend’s brother cranking 2112 (Passage to Bangkok, specifically) from his bedroom. Geddy’s voice was really high in the early days, and what I was hearing rocked so hard, it made me stop and say, “wait a sec…is that…Rush?” I had no idea about their early stuff. At that time, that was the coolest thing I had heard.

I'm no Nevermind (or Nirvana for that matter) booster, but to suggest that aside from Smells Like Teen Spirit the album is "mellow" is utterly ridiculous. What a buffoonish statement!? Breed, Territorial Pissings, Drain You, Lounge Act, Stay Away + Endless Nameless are all aggressive, rockin' tracks. And this says to me either the guy didn't listen to the entire album, and is therefore making false statements. Or, like many metalheads, he's bitter that grunge kicked the Hair Metal bands off MTV. Listen, if you don't like Nirvana or grunge or whatever, fine, just say that. But seriously, skip the false narrative BS. There's already way too much of that in world.

I love many concept albums... just not "The Wall". I already mentioned my love "Animals" nevermind "The Who Sell Out", "Tommy", and "Quadrophenia", all those albums having a narrative with songs would consider filler as two on the panel felt. In regards to "The Wall", I hate the production, I don't like the music of the songs, and lyrically I've never rated Waters as a spokesperson of youth alienation like Townshend, where Waters alienation lyrics are better suited in a more vague but broader sense despite a specific topic. In the end... I really don't like the album.

I get that people can't accept Def Leppard's turn toward commercial rock, really watering down the once rockin' tuneage. I was pissed off for awhile but then came to accept them for what they are, as I love hooks, melody and harmonies, each of which Def Leppard have truly mastered! With Leppard, there are still great riffs and solos (although I could use a ton more and always have it in the back of my mind that their next release will go back to High And Dry sound-never happens!) and I have respect for any group that can craft a catchy song that offers winning sonics and is true to what they do. I firmly believe that a lot of folks (some right here on this channel) like a lot more Def Leppard songs than they are willing to admit. Finally, Steve Clark was a very, very, unique and stellar guitarist who had his own style and chord and note patterns......there was a magic about his playing and it is noticed by many!

The reason some people in US are not fan of Springsteen is his political view. He has not supported the former president. U2 and Dylan are also in that category of artist with political ambitions. @@hakanpersson6524 Most people who believe in love and honor don't support the former president. Bruce is widely known to be one helluva human being and his lyrics reflect love, empathy, loneliness, depression, struggle, dignity, truth and compassion, feelings in which we can ALL relate to and see ourselves in. He is only political in the sense that he truly strives to connect with others and to bring some passion and truth to who we are as humans and how do we become better. It's been noted many times that if Bruce Springsteen ran for president, he'd win in a landslide, as he is widely admired by many, many millions and by all accounts is a man desperately seeking to make this troubled world a much better one. His "politics" are MORE LOVE, no vote should even be required for that! I fully realize many of us don't want politics mixed with entertainment, but when people with the character of Bruce or Bono (another exceptional human being) speak out or go outside the lines, so to speak, the message reaches millions and can actually change the world-for the better! The Joshua Tree, on a scale of 1 to 10 is an 11! It is musically, lyrically, sonically pure perfection! If people claim to be big fans of music and truly don't hear ANYTHING of worth off of this album.......??????????????????????? Big thanks for shout out for two of the giants in music who are victims of their massive popularity. But in these two cases, they command huge audiences simply due to staggering talent-some things are huge for all the right reasons! take care.

I think Nick Franco brought up something interesting when mentioning The Beatles. Yes, they are the best selling band of all time, their Ed Sullivan Show was basically the start of an upcoming generation of musicians (and later on), their production is good, they had three good songwriters and so on. What bothers me isn't really the band or their success but how there can never a negative comment about them that are valid. Was really every song SO good? Is every album perfect? Is every vocal performance amonst the best ever? I own four of their classic albums and I like them fine. They do have really good songs like "A Day in the Life", "Here Comes the Sun", "Let It Be", "Yesterday" and others but no album I own by the The Beatles would be in a top 50 or 100 from my collection in my perspective. That's just my opinion but also.. They have quite many songs that might have a good rhythm, lyric or basline but is overall very forgettable. That is okay to say about The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd or Elton John.. But not The Beatles? I think Paul McCartney easily could admit that some songs was subpar or haven't aged well.. But why can't anyone else?
