An in-depth look at the former Hull & Barnsley & Great Central Joint Railway from Anston to Carlton Towers via Doncaster and Snaith. We will look at the line from start to finish. As well as mentions of any works, bridge/viaducts and collieries/junctions of note.
This line was opened in 1916 but never as a passenger line and spent its life as a simple freight and excursions line before closure in 1968 and the stub to Thorpe Marsh Power Station in 1970. Enjoy and all photos used are credited to their appropriate photographers.

Great film there. Always interesting to see what does or doesn't remain of the stsations and environs. You obviously put a great deal of work filming, editing and desktop research in each of your projects. Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge and allowing us to come with you.

Just found your video, I live at Carlton Towers Station. You should of knocked on the door and had a cuppa and a look about 😊

Another route lost to circumstance of the times, and viability to be profitable as so many others were too. There is an argument in some instances that routes such as this could have been singled and kept mothballed in care and maintenance, until such time as they would find possible new uses, but hindsight is what it is.
