We will never see a Disney film like this anymore.

I love the transition from pessimism to optimism.

"Won't resent, won't despair, old and bent, I won't care" I always shed tears at this part. The humility and optimistic desperation of Quasimodo, in this part, are unbearable for me. He ask for so little, yet It sounds like he thinks of It as an impossible wish. It hurts my heart seeing how much Frollo damaged his confidence and made him feel like a prisoner.

When I was a kid, I was banned from watching the movie at home. I didn't see this film until I was in 4th grade (it was in class), and I enjoyed it. As an adult, I find Quasimodo to be a relatable character, being as I was ostracised from society for having Asperger's as a kid; instead of learning to embrace this part of me, I was always told that I had to hide it, in order to fit in. (The results were disastrous.) But Quasimodo eventually learns to love himself, embrace his differences, and stand up to his tormentors, which is what I love about his character development. (The most 3-dimensional development I've seen in an animated movie.) Because of animated movies like these, I hope to make my own animated films about characters rising above adversities, using traditional animation and "deep canvas", which was used in about 90% of the movie.

Tom Hulce's voice is angelic here I loved Quasimodo but didn't fully appreciate his character until I was older and watched the movie again.

This makes me think of "Mother Knows Best." There are several parallels between this movie and "Tangled," but without wishing to offend fans, I like "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" better.

Most people dismiss this movie, but it has one of the best musical scores that Disney or Alan Menken can compose. It also carries an unforgettable message. Good job Disney.

"Heedless of the gift it is to be them" Beautiful. Just a beautiful line. If only people would act upon this line and not take life for granted.

Quick fact! In the novel, Frollo was the archdeacon, but the filmmakers decided to make him a judge to make it flow a little better. Being a judge, Frollo could hunt down the Gypsies without being questioned. (kudos to the filmmakers for doing their homework!)

I imagine that Quasimodo and Rapunzel could sing a duet of this song, since they both share this same type of desire of wanting to be out in the world.

I can't believe that Tom Hulce ever thought his voice wasn't good. Like... damn, he's amazing as hell. Watched him in Amadeus and then this. I'm saddened that he stopped acting, but I can always reflect back on this soundtrack. He's been so huge in my childhood that I'm always going to love each film of the Disney Renaissance.

Tom Hulce was the perfect voice for Quasimodo. It really gave him a kindness and innocence that everyone computes immediately.

This song evokes a tragic dynamic between a possessive, manipulative, and overprotective parental figure and their obedient and sheltered child that just wants to be loved truly and make genuine connections

Tom Hulce's voice brings a tear to my eyes. It's just such a great contrast to Tony Jay's voice. Beautifully made.

One of the most underrated animated movie of all time.

The saddest thing is that thousands upon thousands of children and adults in the United States - and beyond, in larger numbers - experience this same serious sadness and restraint due to disability. They are told that they are undeserving of freedom and participation in larger society. And they are kept from enjoying freedom and participation in larger society. It's sick. But good on Disney for showing this. It is uplifting to those of us who have been there.

This film is highly underrated… The music is definitely the best out of all the Disney films in my opinion.

I never got why this movie got so overlooked. It has the same elements that made "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid" so sucessful. Those elements being a great story, an AMAZING soundtrack, and dynamic charactars. I think the reason being is because this movie has many grown up themes, like percecuting minorities and lust, with little kids not understanding those kinds of things quite yet. I remember watching this as a six-year old kid and not understanding one thing. I recently rewatched it, and it is one of my favorite Disney movies. Judge Frollo is BY FAR one of my favorite Disney villians. But, he's topped by Gaston. (I can't help it. I like those douchbags in movies. They make me laugh everytime.) I loved Frozen as well, because the soundtrack was good, and the charactars were dynamic. But I think Hunchback is just as good, and didn't get NEARLY as much respect as Frozen did,

For anyone who says Beauty and the Beast was all about Stockholm Syndrome, please show them this movie. This movie is the perfect definition of that. Frollo had been manipulating Quasimodo for his whole life and says his mother was a horrible person and he had forced him to stay inside forever.

On this horrific day, this song seems to uplift and give in the smallest way hope that Notre Dame will again rise to spend more days out there.

My goodness... For the first time in my life, I actually relate to Frollo here... in the sense that the "world is cruel and wicked". I've never felt that before. Anyone who is different whether that be by their appearance or mental health, is alienated and frowned upon. It's a horrible world for those who don't fit in with the majority. Our world is so wrong :(. Quazi, is not ugly at all, the film proves his wonders. No one deserves to live in isolation because they're different. Good on you Quazi, escape and go to the Feast of Fools

Holy MOLY. This movie seriously has some beautiful music.

This song is so beautiful. I listen to it so many times. Tom Hulce's voice and the swells and falls of the music are just lovely. For me its an alliteration for depression, Frollo being the depression, and Quasimodo wanting to just live one day free without it

Not only does this give a message of "don't judge by sight, but by soul" and "don't take life for granted" but it could also give a message about social anxiety and insecurity, if you want to interpret it that way. In this song, you could think of Quasimodo as any person with anxiety, and Frollo is the voice of said anxiety. Interpret this however you want, I'm just giving what I think.

What's striking to me is the joy Quasimodo feels in just the _hope_ of having a single day to experience the world. He is guaranteed nothing, yet he's thankful for the hope itself. Having a semi-debilitating chronic illness, it's easy to similarly feel trapped in my home, and that I have nothing of value to offer the world. But man, the hope that things will get better someday is a God-given _gift._ It's what keeps me going. :)

Much better than Let It Go, and yet this never got that level of praise.

Found myself on the edge of crying listening to this. I love revisiting old Disney movies I used to watch all the time. Now as an adult, I can fully understand Quasimodo's yearning and struggle. It's a sad world we live in where people, as soon as they're judged as different, are cast out and ostracized.

I know how quasi feels, when he sings his lyrics describe my high functioning autism perfectly. Trapped in my house, wanting to live a life but knowing i could never be like any normal person. I would do anything to not feel guilty nor ashamed to be myself for who i am. To not feel anxious in a crowd, to enjoy time with my family, and not be so weird when talking to people.

This movie was pretty intense for my young mind to take and yet, even though I remember being somewhat nervous watching this, I still watched it plenty times on VHS. And whenever I hear Quasi sing this song and Heaven's light, I found some sort of comfort in his voice. Idk It just gives off a warm feeling whenever I listen to him

Quasimodo's angelic voice is just everything whenever this plays in my head at school. 💫 Before I even knew this was a Disney song, or that this movie even existed at all, it was played in my class for a lesson.

3:17 never fails to give me chills.

It's scary how many similarities/parallels there between the beginning of 'Out There' and Mother Knows Best' from Tangled. Makes me wanna see Rapunzel and Quasimodo meet. Quasi would carve wooden figures of the people of Corona and Punzie would paint them from memory and it would be so sweet and wholesome.

This is the most underrated Disney movie ever made. It has BEAUTIFUL music, and AMAZING vocal cast, and a beautiful storyline and characters. It bombed in theatres and is, for most people I know, the least memorable Disney movie of their childhood. I will never understand why this beautiful cinematic masterpiece is deemed as being mediocre at best. It is, in my opinion, one of the BEST.

Definitely one of those once in a lifetime kind of films.

As a 20 year old man who was homeschooled most their life and has no siblings and who has religious parents who work a lot, I can relate A LOT to Quasimodo. Being alone isn’t fun. Everyone who survived 2020 can understand that, but imagine that being your whole life. Never take your friends or family for granted because even when they get on your nerves you realize they’re the best gift you could ever receive.

This life is a bittersweet taste of heaven and hell. Those who give no mercy will get no mercy.

I don't know why, but I always cry at the beginning of this song. Frollo, telling Quasimoto that he is the only one who will ever be his friend, the only one who will protect him, and making Quasimoto repeat all of the things he says, it just makes me SO sad. The abusiveness of this relationship is finally hitting me now that I'm older, and I can't help but wish that there weren't people like that out in the world. It breaks my heart to listen to this soundtrack...

I was 11 when this movie came out and it totally floored me. I still love it to this day, and can remember every word to the songs. Beautiful.

I remember watching this movie again sometime around 2014 or 2015, and I'd forgotten how amazing the visuals and the soundtrack to this movie really was. It's like the memories were buried deep in my consciousness and suddenly brought to light as I was watching the story unfold. It was super nostalgic.

Wanna hear a heartbreaking theory? In this song, the line “all I ask is one to hold forever” is the saddest thing ever.. Cause the sad irony is that in the book Quasimodo dies holding Esmeralda’s corpse until he dies of starvation, and their bones are tangled together. I think it’s a reference but that’s just a theory (AND A FUCKING HEARTWRENCHING ONE AT THAT)

This song always makes me cry, there is something so hopeful about quasi's dream but also truth in frollo statement's unfortunately. The question is what do we focus on the hope or the negative aspects. Light or darkness? Love this film!

The orchestra they used was amazing. It's so perfect with his voice.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is so underrated ughhhhhhhh I love it so much but not enough people have watched it and those who have only saw it when it first came out or it was just pushed to the back of their minds which is so sad because everything about it is so amazing and deserves to be more known and beloved.

Growing up, the portion that Quasimodo sang about wanting to spend a day where he could be among people normally really resonated with me. Nobody knew at the time but I have autism and I always felt separated from people somehow, but didn't know why. Even approaching my 30s, now at peace with my diagnosis and quite content with my current situation, I still feel this song and that heartache from years ago.

Tom Hulce is one of my favorite male actors. He was and probably still a good example of a sentimental guy. When I was little I didn't care Quasimodo until I got older. I love his singing and he's one of my favorite Disney male heros.

My favorite song in this movie

This is easily on my top five list of underappreciated Disney songs, right underneath Brazzle Dazzle Day from Pete's Dragon. Major props to Tom Hulce for belting this out with such enthusiasm, and especially for holding that last note.

This is one of Disney's most underrated movies. It is a masterpiece of animation, music and storytelling. While it does stray from the original story line of Hugo's novel, it doesn't diminish the impact of the moral at all, but makes a complex topic more understandable for younger viewers, while not patronising the more mature audience.
