0:32 I loved seeing Reaper protecting dill from being attacked since this small detail actually pays off later on in the games and it shows that lucy isn't the only tribute trying to help the kid they came with.

Yes!! This film portrays how the games became a spectacle to keep the Capitol watching, but the utter savagery of these sequences only show what exactly they are turning into a spectacle, when there's no layer of veneer to hold it all in place.

Rule 1: Never go to the cornucopia b/c it’s a bloodbath where half of the tributes die in the most horrific way possible. I really have to give props to the production team as well as the score. In the first movie, the noise and sound was cut off and in here, we see get to see how intense and scary this is. In 74th games, all of the tributes were given training in hand to hand combat and survival skills while these kids back then are given none. It’s completely messy and brutal and I that makes it even more terrifying to watch. I’m so excited for when this movie comes out.

I like how this Hunger Games is presented differently from the 74th. That film used the sound and visuals alone to demonstrate the brutality of the Bloodbath, but all the tributes had at least been trained to an extent on how to participate. The 10th is much more raw and emotional, especially with all the kids letting out screams or war cries to prep themselves up for the carnage that is to come.

I love how we see Snow’s selfish nature on display with his bewilderment at Lucy Gravy’s selflessness in risking her life to save Jessup, just like how he scolded her for sharing the food he gave her earlier. And it’s perfectly constrasted later on when he risks his life to save Sejanus because Gaul forced him to do it. Because to Snow, it doesn’t make sense if it doesn’t benefit him. Because at his core, he doesn’t and won’t let himself have that deep bond with anyone. Not even with Tigris in the end.

It's definitely showing how, through growing up in such a classist and dehumanizing environment, society can create a sociopath to a degree. Though in Coriolanus' case, Collins makes it clear he could have been a better person; but he chose not to be, embracing his sociopathic nature in his quest for power in the end.

this just shows how deadly the bloodbath really is. in the 74th and 75th hunger games, it seems very quick and we don’t get to see a lot of fighting. but this shows the brutality of the first 5-10 minutes of the games

@@corey6158 I mean the 75th was experienced Victors, some of whom were stronger then they were in their games, and some were elderly and frail. So it wasn't really much of a fight. I'd say the 74th in the movie we saw quite a bit, just blurred for ratings. We see a twelve year old boy get his throat slit, we don't see anything that graphic here.

Both are terrifying to be in with. The 10th hunger games didn't have training for the tributes so they're basically killing for self preservation, and more on brawn than brains, RIP if you're a 12 years old. While the 74th has careers, they'd kill in the first 20 seconds.

Not to mention how much more ‘low tech’ this game is compared to the ones from the original trilogy. The arena isn’t a massive simulated environment but rather a dilapidated amphitheater formerly used for other purposes. The cornucopia is much smaller and rudimentary, and the cameras are much more visible. The tributes aren’t even given uniforms to wear. Really sells the idea that the games are still a relatively new concept and a lot more brutal and rough.

There are some differences with the book that I like: -Otto (boy from district six, who was supposed to die before the games) is alive and has a crossbow and is capable of killing. -Sol (girl from district five) was useless in the book and dying quickly, while she is more dangerous in the movie, she throws knives like Clove 😲

I really wish they would do a movie about the very first hunger games. No one would know what's going on or what to do and I think that'd make it more realistic and suspenseful. Editing to add that it should include more of the history as I just feel like a lot of that is left out. Perhaps that is boring to some but how does North America even become Panem in the first place? How does a bunch of elites even create a society with 12 districts working under them? Etc. Etc. Thanks for everyones thoughts!

Well apparently the first ones were lame. They were just 12 kids fighting in the capitol town square or something like that. The game in this new movie is the first one where they have mentors and sort of made it a spectacle so people would actually watch

that would be cool, but it would be kind of hard to pay attention. in the ballad of songbirds and snakes, at least we get one person we recognize. coriolanus. but at that time, coriolanus was just 8-9 and would have been too young to do anything for the games, so it would be kind of boring to read and watch imo

This scene alone sets up the parallels between Katniss and Lucy here....with Snow, the mentor, telling Lucy to find a place to hide, but Lucy going to the Cornucopia anyways to get Jessup, and Haymitch, Katniss's mentor, telling Katniss to run away from the Cornucopia and find water, but Katniss doesn't listen and tries to run towards the Cornucopia for a bow.

@@GigiM_winx Yes she did. In the books, Haymitch specifically told Katniss to avoid the Cornucopia at the beginning of the games, find a source of water and then make a plan. Then Katniss saw the bow and positioned to run for it. But she got distracted by Peeta and Glimmer took the bow instead. Katniss could've avoided the Cornucopia but still ran towards it to get a backpack, and would've gotten killed if Clove hadn't killed the District 9 boy she was fighting for the backpack.

A little sad that Circ and Teslee (the two tributes from district 3) are going to be eliminated at the start of the game; they are supposed to survive for quite a long time and Teslee was supposed to be very clever in hacking the drone and killing Mizzen. I think the movie will get rid of the plot about hacked drones because it was to complicated to do. It's a shame. Also, I think in the movie, it will be Mizzen who is going to be killed by the snakes, not Coral. The last four will be Lucy Gray, Reaper, Treech and Coral I think.

@@jessw391Lucy Gray says there were bats on the train in from the Capitol. Jessup was bitten by one of the bats because he tried to keep them off of Lucy Gray all night. That's how he contracted rabies. And sadly they didn't offer any of them medical attention, so by the time he was in the Arena, he was too far gone.

Honestly, Panlo and Sheaf are lucky they even made it to the bloodbath in the film. In the book, they die when the bombs go off in the arena.

Does anyone else realize that the first thing that Katniss(in Catching Fire) and Lucy Gray did when the games began was call out for their district partner? Also, how Reaper and Thresh either protected or avenged Dill and Rue? That just goes to show that even though 11 and 12 are the poorest and most looked down upon districts in Panem, they have the most integrity, compassion, selflessness and loyalty towards their own. To simply put it: even though they are treated like animals, they are more human than anyone else in the Capital.

Am I the only one bothered by the way the mentors react like they lost a video game when their ACTUAL HUMAN BEING Tributes were killed? IT just reminds you how these tributes were seen as irrelevant animals, easily replaced, like they don't matter, which I know is kinda the point, but still.

Yeah the way the tributes were treated in this movie really pissed me off , I know it's the point that Suzanne Collins was trying to make and I am grateful that the more brutal and gory moments from the book were cut from the movie but I couldn't stop getting angry at how these poor kids were treated and how the capitol viewed them as nothing but savage beasts and a means to an end, the worst was when reaper ripped off the capitol flag like THIS IS WHAT GET YOU ANGRY BUT NOT THE INNOCENT CHILDREN (who lots of them were disabled and sick) DYING???? once again I understand it's the point that Suzanne is making but it was still hard to see this

I went to see this movie in theatres yesterday, and this is only the beginning for violence in the film, it gets very heavy very fast throughout the movie. Do recommend though, it was very well made 10/10

Interestingly a lot of the tributes (besides Coral god damn 😱) are doing a lot of wild swinging of weapons that isn’t actually effective because they aren’t trained. Really shows how they’re just desperate kids who aren’t prepared for this situation.

They are definitely changing the order that the tributes die. Panlo and sheaf from district nine died from their injuries after the bombing of the arena in the books, but they are still alive long enough for the blood bath in the movie.

This 1minute fight scene was so intense and more real than the others movies. Brutal; honest. The way she was rolling on the floor with her dress, screaming and being attack from everywhere. The caméra movement following her every second, even looking from her eyes side. And the way she's running at the end with her friend trying to escape her killers. My heart was beatin so hard when I saw it. I wish it was longer cuz it was directed so well.

It's not much different from the show, though. Lucy told Snow Jessup got bitten on the train on their way to Capitol. So the rabies is also quite working by the time they got to the arena, and the portrayal of it in the show is quite truthfull to the books, though the circumstances of Jessup being infected are a bit different.

This arena scene was amazing, they stayed very true to the book. Lucy Gray was truly kind-hearted and brave. She immediately called Jessup in the Arena, she didn't go to the pit alone as Coriolanus said, she is really a great girl💚🐍

to be fair she didn't have much competition other than Reaper and Treech but they're gonna have Mizzen kill Teslee so Treech is irrelevent now and Reaper never seemed interested in killing any of them (other than those Peacekeepers lol)

in the books there was no bloodbath, reaper ran for weapons meanwhile everyone ran away and hid. the first actual kill was an act of mercy for marcus by lamina, something the hunger games wasn’t supposed to show. they were to vilify and make the districts seem barbaric not merciful. i kind of wished they stuck to that narrative but this was still amazing to watch

I think it would be a cool idea to have some sort of prequel series of The Hunger Games, like what Star Wars did, but each film focused on a victor who helped or was associated with the Second Rebellion, like Haymitch, Finnick, Joannah, etc. I think that would be a cool thing to watch. I know Lucy wasn't a part of the rebellion, but her song "The Hanging Tree" became a part of her legacy and became a battlecry.

There is a very real possibility that Lucy went on to District 13 and helped build the foundation of the rebellion from there, she could even be Coin's mother. Also, Lucy was the source of all of Snow's trauma and guilt that later on gets the better of him by the end.

Definitely Haymitch. He won the 2nd quarter quell hunger games. His backstory in the book is extremely interesting.
