Any and every option is on the table in a situation like that- including suicide. (SPOILER ALERT) But even then, you're kinda screwed. In the books, the dogs that chase Katniss and Peeta at the end were the reanimated (and repurposed) corpses of the OTHER DEAD TRIBUTES. That's the ultimate sacrilege, right there- you die in the Hunger Games, and your body becomes just another tool of amusement for a city full of psychopaths.

To be honest I always took it as calculated risk. Her options. 1) Go fight and kill Cato, Katniss and Peeta. (Death is brutal way) 2) Hide and starve to death. (Painful and very slow death.) 3) Eat those berries, they are poisonous and die. (Fast death) 4) Eat those berries and they are edible and live. (No death and its delayed for some time.) As you can see she made a good call. Just .... you know how it ended.

Well in the book Foxface was hunting them down and she saw food on the sheet of plastic that Katniss had acquired at the Cornucopia. She thought that since Peeta and Katniss had them, that they were edible. In the movie, Foxface's death was seen as a suicide, because she was seen at the edible plants station and she had known what nightlock were.

yeah and she was smart because she knew she wouldn't win. Cato, Katniss, and Thresh were all trying to kill while her plan was to evade. She didn't want to die horrifically being murdered, so she chose the least painful and fasted way to die, eating Nightlock berries. Foxface is easily the smartest.

@@briannabombshell1921 As a person who read the chapter just as she died recently, according to Katniss, she had an "emaciated" body, meaning she was already was going to die as it is. She either ate the berries to speed it up or because she was so starved she couldn't use her brain to discern if they were safe or not. When you don't eat for a while, your brain gets foggy, so I'm betting on the latter.

Hence why I know it's District 6 male tribute.Like Katniss calls the girl Foxface because she doesn't know her name....I am not even sure if a name is even mentioned. Unless I missed it somewhere. Even both members of District 1 were unnamed in the books. There was no Marvel and Glimmer from I remember.

@@bernard6998 problem is you cannot unleash something totally devastating, you need a survivor in presentable condition. also to keep in mind: it was always a concern that the last 2 tributes may inflict major injuries upon each other, so they both die in short succession. :( it was a wonder the first hunger games had any survivor: it was a coliseum without exits or hiding spots but lot of weapons; the carnage was over in less than an hour afaik. in the books everybody followed the rules set by capitol nicely until they were broken in 75th hunger games.

That's really all careers know how to do....trained to volunteer for the Hunger Games. As at of the Careers end up winning. However at least in the film...he realize his just another pawn. Katniss even gives mercy to him and shoots him with arrow when he falls and eating by the muttations. When in the books....Cato suffers under the muttations for like 20 hours before his death. So they actually give him more sympathy in the film. The books make him not as liked. Clove is just as bad in the book and also dies differently. Thresh hits her with a rock...when in the film it's against the Cornucopia.

Rue was always one of my favorites and I thought her short lived alliance/friendship with Katniss was very sweet.

Rue is so sweet and adorable, but she is a lot smarter than we give her credit for. She took Cato's knife, letting him believe that another tribute - one that, if I am not mistaken, Cato kills later on - took his knife instead. So in a way, she was deliberately giving Cato a reason to dislike some of the other tributes, creating grudges that she hoped Cato would follow through with in the arena, making them more likely to be hunted than her. As well as it being a funny prank..... damn, that girl is cunning.
