Growin' up in Czechoslovakia in the 80's, whenever I had some ache, my granny would give me a sugarcube soaked with Alpa, which is a (70% strong) alcohol-based herbal tincture of natural essential oils. Some alco-candies are nothing. We are used to alcohol from a very early age. Many deserts and candies are still alcohol based - Easter eggs filled with eggnog, špice, or rumove pralinky....good ol' times

My mum is from Velky Krtis county but I grew up in UK but always used to visit, it’s nice to see Southern Slovakia covered, especially Hungarian towns like Tornalja/Tornal’a. Even the touch you did with kifli and salata. Love it. The hunger valley you described, is why my mum emigrated. The region lost all its industry, even my grandad who was a leading trade unionist in the area lost his job at Liaz factory after communism fell. This is a brilliant video and I love it.
