One of the things that raised suspicion about Redmond was his relationship with retired KGB general Viktor Budanov. Baer's "Fourth Man" book spells this out.

What the book demonstrates is that there is a right way and a wrong way to go about counter intel ops and when that op is pointed inward and trying to pinpoint a highly placed mole, the wrong thing to do is to let the potential target angrily interfere in the damned investigation!!! That is exactly what Redmond did.

Interesting idea, but not possible. Baer worked in a different world region (mainly Middle East) and did not have access to the information that was given to the Russians.
