I've read the book and it's definitely a good read. But I don't think it's set in the Game of Thrones universe. It certainly seems so but I'm almost sure I've read somewhere that George RR Martin denied that's part of that universe. Edit: I've found the quote, it's in the comments below. This book was originally published in 1980, it predates the Game of Thrones universe by over 10 years.

Martin has stated that The Ice Dragon is not set in the same world as Westeros of A Song of Ice and Fire, commenting: "The world of Ice & Fire did not exist when I wrote The Ice Dragon". Despite this, several press releases, book covers and commentaries have claimed that it is set in the same world.

Since no one else will do it, I will. George where's my next Song of Ice & Fire Book ? It's been 13 years George. I don't want the crappy end of the show to be My final ending of the series. I'm boycotting everything else you do until I have it. Now back to Larry & his excellent reviews.
