Loved this movie and yes, it happens in real life, maybe not with a pop star, but it happens. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't but that doesn't make the love between the two any less real. Look, you've got this one life of yours and love is sometimes in short supply. If you get a chance at something real, no matter how short, forget what others think and grab it instead of living with regrets. Soul connections are soul connections, regardless of age. Live this one life and be happy (speaking from experience and yes, similar situation). This movie gave me all the feels.

Agree. Society has groomed us to think that women are to date, love, marry….someone our own age, be the ones to take care of the children more than than than the men, be the ones to give up our careers and stay home with the children, d the ones to cook…clean…tend to the family. We are so scrutinized by what we do while men can do whatever; have whatever and there’s no issue. Men can have the relationship with the younger woman and there’s no problem. Women get picked apart way too easily when all we want is to live freely; make our own choices without being picked apart, judged and ridiculed.

This Film was beautiful and sensitively portrayed. The age gap doesn't matter, it's what the heart knows when two people connect despite the controversy it arouses in people of all ages. I was married to my beautiful late husband for 41 years he was 17 years older than me. We climbed our mountains together despite criticisms we loved and adored each other until his last breath. 💕💕💕

My objection to the ending in the book is she denies that she ever loved him. It's been done so many times that the author should have been accused of plagiarism and maybe not having a brain. At the very least, if she was supposed to be a strong female character, she should have told him the truth and lived with her decision. The ending in the movie is much more satisfying unless you buy into the trope that women don't deserve to be happy. The movie is a big improvement.

Having read the book two years ago, I was not quite sure what to expect of this film that was presented in the trailer as sexy, romantic and a feminist film about a strong female lead character who seizes her happiness. As a lot of the audiences seem to feel, I thought this film started to tell this fabulous story - but needed to cramp a lot of backstory into too few minutes. Loved the acting - Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine have oodles of “chemistry” as they are just that good at improv and bringing a shaky plot to life. I think another half an hour could have given the director enough time to do justice to this storyline and add a bit more synchronicity - tightening the loose knit characters and subplots. What I LOVE about the movie The Idea of You, which is different from the book is the amazing happy ending! These two needed to have one - and the book was devastating just because Solene chose to break off their relationship in the end. This one was beautifully tempered. Loved the beautiful decor and sets and the effort that went into building the ambience in each scene.

Fantastic movie! Good portrayal of the book. I think they picked great characters with Ann and Nick, for Solene and Hayes. Although the book was better overall. The movie did a good job at catching the essence of the love story. The ending of the book was very emotional and I liked it because it was different. However, I did prefer the 5 year, epilogue of the movie better. The Idea of You was definitely the best romance of 2024 so far.

The reason for a 5 year break is obvious. Izzy will have graduated from college and be on her own, perhaps even living in a different part of the country. The film had a happy ending. Movie goers love happy endings. Hopefully, Hollywood will make more films like this to end the world's prejudice against younger men plus older women. Clint Eastwood directed a movie in the 1970's called Breezy that attacked a similar prejudice; a middle aged man with a 19 year old girl. There was a wonderful powerful scene in that film when William Holden's ex-wife, who just got married to a much younger man was dying in the hospital after her honeymoon. She said, "We were so happy, so much in love and couldn't care less what people thought. Love comes so seldom in life that you should enjoy it while you can."

I loved this movie! There was so much chemistry between Anne and Nicholas and just enough spicy scenes. Sure, some say it is "unrealistic" but isn't that what movies are for? I would have liked a little more at the end, but wow, when they looked at each other...fantastic movie and will be watching again!

I’m with you! I have watched it at least once a day since I discovered it on Prime. Whether one believes or not that it could really happen, the actors made me feel EVERYTHING their characters felt. I love the songs in the movie. I don’t think they could have picked better actors with better chemistry to pull this movie off. They were perfect together. I do wonder every time I watch the spicy scenes if Anne’s husband could stand watching them or if he skips through them. Even though it’s just acting, that would be hard to watch if it was my spouse. lol.

I loved it! Also, the beautiful background sets and outfit styling. If they didn’t explicitly declare their ages, I would’ve thought that they were both in different parts of their 30’s. What stood out to me most was about how with social media, people voice opinions by only seeing superficial aspects, and it can affect life choices. Best not to let strangers dictate who you should love and not love. Awesome move!

I liked this movie! What I don’t understand is people going eww/yuck, yes she is older, big deal!, if he was 14 and she was 30 it would definitely not be right. He is an independent 24 year old who knows what he wants, when they split the daughter encouraged them to get back together. I have seen many many movies where the man is 20, 30 anywhere up to 60/70 years older yet I don’t see a lot of criticism?

I really liked this one from Anne Hathaway. My all time favorite from Anne will probably stay Les Miserables because of her incredible portrayal of a wretched young woman on the streets of Paris, but here she realistically portrays a forty year old divorced woman who falls into the trap of being with a man fifteen years younger.. Cougar, tramp, all the online derogatory hateful’s that come with their relationship.. And, throughout she is Anne Hathaway, a talented and beautiful actress!

I saw this advertised as an upcoming film on Amazon. I'm approaching 40 and a single mom and so this really gave me something to connect with from the start. I didn't even know it was from a book, so I went into this with fresh eyes. I thought the movie pace was good in the beginning, but feel it fell of with them having a "regular" relationship at the end because everything happened really fast and I feel the characters weren't given enough space to explore this changing landscape. Having just 15 more minutes to explore this would have been great. I loved the ending though, to me it was perfect and it leaves things open and to the imagination of the viewer. The chemistry between the leads was truly amazing and they really connected well. I would have liked to see Nicholas interacting more with the daughter because with single moms the kids are part of the package deal. Again, this is where things could have been explored more with the characters, especially with how close the mother and daughter are.

In this movie, I learned that women are their own worst enemies. The selfish and mentally weak daughter, who is so concerned about what strangers feel, does not care about how her own Mother feels. The daughter would rather see an unhappy mother give up the man of her dreams to appease a bunch of strangers who don't give a f* about her. The one thing I learned is that the younger generation is spineless, and if this was an older man with a younger woman nobody would be talking about it. It's a man's world.

The characters and the backstory were amazing with some sense of reality in them( Not completely though). The characters in the show especially showed some great character development, especially solène. The way she juggles between her love life and family life was so good. I loved how at no point she leaves or forgets about her daughter, and takes the best possible decison for her. The little scene in the end was a perfect ending for all of us who love complete closure in a movie/series. BUT, This show had a few things that could have been tweaked to make it a little better. First off, though there was emotion in the show, I feel that it could have been better displayed. The sad scenes seemed pretty plain and generic. I would have prefered more emotional scenes. Also, I would have LOVED seeing Daniel's face when he was dumped by his new wife. It would have been the most satisfying thing ever (Pls amazon release a small clip displaying it). He was the most hypocritical and annoying character in the show. He somehow always found a way to make my blood boil. These however are minor issues and overall the movie would be perfect to watch is you're looking for a light hearted rom-com (Rom-mov??)

Alright some of these reviews are too much. I obviously loved the book more. The book makes them into two verryyyy real people. You have so many pages to read and understand each character and why they fit so well together. The movie.. Definitely had to rush that process. I enjoy the soundtrack BUT I feel they spent too much time showing the band sing. Felt like they were promoting the fake band than focusing on the people. I'm also not one for montage scenes that skip big areas because we lost so much in those moments. In the book those little scenes really meant something to the characters and helped show the impact it would have to the storyline The acting was really good! I just wish you actually got to feel character chemistry more... it was just all rushed. Still enjoyed it for what it was (: (4 stars because I like the two leads)

Performance was very good. Story was predictable. They should have focused more on how could Anne handle paps and her daughter. All the time, she was becoming the news and no one questions Nicholas... Very surprising. Overall, good one time watch. ( I had lot more expectation... May be my bad) Nick's performances in all his previous movies were undoubtedly outstanding. Purple hearts, Rwrb, best beneath my feet, handsome devil, Mary and George, cinderella

Women make it possible for men to do what they do without having to worry about things being taken care of at home. But when women have wants and needs there's always judgements and criticisms. I could see if she were 80 and he was 25. There might be a little scrutiny there. LOL. But these two had more in common, deep love and affection for each other, the things that everyone should aspire for to make their life happy. I hated the media and the public for messing in their affair that was absolutely none of their business. He can't f..k all those little divas so why did they take it upon themselves to ruin the relationship he had and that he wanted? He should have gotten on the media and told them that's that's his woman, go to hell. But I guess that would have opened up another can of worms. Oh, and the songs should be up for best original song in a movie at Academy award time.

I found this really soulless. Anne Hathaway can do way better than scripts like these, which literally read like fan fiction. I actually enjoyed Nicholas here; he even sings in the film, which was also excellent. Everyone else gave average to below average. My main issue with this film is that it is not even trying to pretend that it is not a 'Harry-Styles-fanfiction.' I am not getting into the debate of whether real people should be subjects of fanfiction, but if you are making these fanfictions into movies, there must be more care, consideration and effort involved. I think that this, at best, is an average attempt at that
