Like you, I just like mixed breed cats that are affectionate. A cat, if bought up right and cared for, can be a wonderful companion. I haven''t had a cat for several years now since my last cat passed away, but if I get another one it will be a rescue cat from an animal shelter.

Like it or not there is negative affection selection in the general cat population due to TNR (trap, neuter, release) because those that distrust humans the most and are the most fearful avoid being neutered. Most mixed cats are perfectly fine, but it's going to get worse. TNR is only 30 years old (1992). TNR is needed. Make no mistake. I support TNR. However, it will eventually make all the cats that roam around outside into unsuitable pets.

I’m also 61, have psoriatic arthritis, but just took in my sister’s tortoise shell female. She has three toms who were not respecting her majesty! Used her litter pan, played too rough, were plain mean. So long as I take it slow, there’s no problem. I end up paying a bit more for litter and food because I can’t lift the bulk sized packages. She enjoys chasing a laser light, kneading wool and felt, and, of course, sleeping against my legs. She goes crazy most nights from about 3:30 AM to 4:00 AM.

"If you're buying a cat" ... WAIT! ... WHAT? ... BUY a cat? ... But, but, but ... what about the Gazillions of cats in need of a loving Family and nice, warm home? This Documentary was fun, and interesting ... and these purebred cats are undoubtedly gorgeous ... but If you're looking for a "special" cat, then just get a cat! I'm 65, have no idea about how many cats I've lived with (you don't OWN a cat!), and ALL of them were special in their own particular way! If you don't believe me, just ask a cat! As far as BUYING a cat ... I don't consider PAYING FOR a cat from a local Animal Shelter to be the same as BUYING a cat. I think of it as a needed contribution to a very worthy cause. If you have a particular type of cat in mind ... there's a pretty good chance that you will find one who fits the description at the Shelter! You may even find one (or more) whom you like even better than what you had in mind. The last time I visited a Shelter, I was heartbroken that I couldn't pack my car FULL of cats to take home with me! They probably had 30 or more cats ... ALL needing homes! Some were reaching out through the bars of their cages trying to get my attention ... as a cat lover, it was painful ... I'm crying again, just thinking about it. PLEASE ADOPT from your local Shelter!

@@maryweisenbacher1034 Oh, it's a wonderful video! I think it's great for potential cat owners to see that different types of cats have differing traits, and that they are; to some extent, predictable. If you grew up going to Gramma's where she had a snuggle-bunny lap-cat, and you get a cat expecting the same ... you could end up with a hyperactive streak of fur bouncing off the walls! That wouldn't be good for you OR the cat. Personally, I prefer active, intelligent, and interactive cats that vocalize a lot. I like my cats to be a part of my life, not a part of the furniture. But THERE ARE cats who are quite happy to be seen and not heard. And people who prefer them that way. This video can help to get the right people connected to the right cat ... and everyone will be better off because of it. Getting the right people connected to the right cat works for these beautiful cats in the video, also. They are gorgeous animals! I gave a friend a ride not long ago, and during our travels she got a call from a friend who needed a ride home. Her friend had a part-time job at the local Animal Shelter, a fairly new building which I had never been in. So, instead of waiting in the car I went inside to check it out. Beautiful building with beautiful pets just waiting to meet their Families! It was like walking into the Show Room of a Car Dealership ... except filled with cats and dogs instead of cars! And then they took me into the back ... into the "Cat Room" ... and it was PACKED full of desperate animals seeking love and attention. That experience hit me ... HARD! It's simply impossible for me to remember those cats in the Shelter without crying over their situation. I'm a big, rough, tough-looking guy ... who cries about cats! Go figure!

I love all pets especially dogs. However, I have always preferred cats. My wife and I live aboard our 63' sailboat and currently have two "sea" cats. They are wonderful companions and we never have to worry about birds perching in the rigging and pooping all over the deck! They absolutely love looking over the side and watching all of the fish, dolphins, manatees or whatever else happens to swim or fly by. We have a cat-door in the main companionway so, they can go up on-deck anytime they please and we will often hear them chasing each other around the deck at night! They are the best pets to have onboard a boat. I must state that you have to be sure to clean their litter box atleast once a day and if you do, you will never smell it. That is every non-cat person's complaint about cats but, it's easily remedied. Cleaning a litter box once or twice a day is really so much easier and less time consuming than walking a dog around the block and picking up their poop. Enjoy your feline companion(s) my friends! And God bless! 🙏🏻 🇺🇸

The best cat breed without any doubt in my mind is: Mongrel! Too many purebred cats and dogs are prone to any number of health problems. Mutts for the win! I've had cats all my life and never had a purebred to my knowledge (all random rescue cats that chose me). They have all had their own personalities and all have been affectionate and fun and frisky and friendly. I think it has more to do with how you relate to them than what breed they are.

I adore cats but now know from experience that i would like some more knowledge of them, from what type temperament to expect (in a broad sense!) from knowing their combined genetic breeds (not interested in purebreds OR "buying"; I agree with the person who commented emphatically about that) and a general idea of personalities. I also want to stick to cats with the least vulnerabilities to more health issues because of my low income (on Disability). I should mention I'm more interested in cats beyond the kitten years now, as I'm not as active as I used to be from my own health issues (minor to sometimes moderate) and maybe, too, because I have mellowed with age (I feel like I'm describing a bottle of wine, suddenly) even tho I am a spirited 61 year old with my "inner child" still quite intact. Of course, I still adore kittens and love the thought of "raising" my next new feline friend from its kitten-hood, but I really have given it a lot of thought and know it will be better for both of I adopt a CAT. The only major problem I have with this is where I go to choose one from. I'm aware of only the local humane society, as the shelters I have repeatedly called or written & emailed to in the past are strangely nonreciprocal--they've literally not responded at all and I don't know why. I've heard from some people who actually once worked in a few places called "no kill cat shelters" and they've said these places were not at all as nice as they seemed they'd be, even saying they actually do hand cats over to be euthanized when they can't do "anything else". Whether this means they can't afford to care for them or they are beyond saving, I don't know. But no cat lives forever- it was just weird for me to think beyond "no kill" until I actually heard these things and was forced to think about them. Anyway, it looks like the next cat i will be going to find will have to be at this local humane society. I don't have a car but use Uber &/or taxis to get around (another reason I don't want to have to be going to a veterinarian more than required) and they're pretty far from where I live-- but my biggest worry is how this particular H.S. tends to go by some secret kind of behavioral code whenever I've gone to choose a cat in the past. They simply don't want to highlight any characteristics of a cat, and I know it's because they don't want to screw up any cat's chance of being adopted. I can appreciate this but I also had to re-home the last cat I chose, simply because he was so skittish and had health issues, combined. It meant he had to go to the vet a lot and it at the same time that I was trying to give him time to earn his trust in me, so I would be able simply to extend my arms out to him to put him in the carrier to get him to the Vet's. I refused to take him to the last inexpensive vet clinic I'd been to with my longtime beloved cat before this little guy, (don't even want to talk about that😢) and took him to a better, although more expensive, clinic, where they boarded him until his condition was cleared up. By then it had wiped out m Care Credit and when I brought him home, it wasn't long before he needed looking at again, and I still hadn't managed to earn that trust, although in every other way we were both happy to be with each other. Again, someone helped me to get him in his carrier and I went back to the same place, because they were so good, and they knew him by then. It turned out these people's daughter had a friend who was willing to take him (I'm not kidding about how nice they were; they let me have him back even though I could not pay them the THREE THOUSAND in excess that I owed them for that first visit). I knew he couldn't have had a better break than going into a forever home with someone who was friends with this group of veterinarians, a group that had come to know him, and so we parted ways. It was very painful for me and I felt bad for him having to adjust to being left again by someone (me) even though I knew that once he got settled he was going to be somewhere where he was loved and could stay forever, with excellent vet care guaranteed. I call that clinic every year to ask about him and the news is always so good to hear! For sure I did not want to return him to the H.S. because I knew they would not keep the notes I had written about him and all the things I had found that worked well while he was still shy, such as my taking "baby steps" around the apartment all the time, which allowed me to go right past him and accept his headbutts, his rubbing all over my legs, etc. We just needed more time to get him to allow me to actually touch him with my hands, but couldn't afford to take that time when he kept having new trouble. Maybe I was just too afraid to make him feel afraid and he needed someone with more confidence. All I know is it would've been better if the H.S. had told me, when I asked about any outstanding character traits, that they told me how he was indeed NOT happy about HANDS. Surely they knew? He would've been my 3rd beloved best feline friend, still would be, but for this unfortunate combination of factors, and I know I would've not taken him had i realized 2 of them (his ear mites present when I adopted him, obviously it had already begun there, coupled with this excessive timidity). Of course, I tell myself I was meant to be a mediator in his getting to a favorable outcome and I still would love to have had time (and that kind of money) to have earned his complete trust, because I had already won his affection and he, my heart. But I absolutely don't ever want to go thru such a failure again. I even feel like I'm crazy and stupid to even think of trying again, but I know too, that there just must be a cat out there who would present less problems for me, especially from the start, and now that i have that Care Credit paid off, along with a whole other credit card, and don't have to be squeaking by on what's left over after I pay those 2 amounts every month. I guess I just wrote a long "comment" in order to ask one question: what does anyone else think my chances are, at this point, to try again, especially as things look very solid by the end of this year -finance wise- and I've been waiting exactly 5 years to get another cat, and don't really like to think about another 12 months to get one? I've been so tentative since Mr. Cat#3 (who has a name, I just don't care to share it, I feel almost superstitious at this point and don't want to jinx things! Silly, I know, but, IS there a way to know ANYTHING about what kind of cat a cat is, by part breeding, or other telling signs to look for, when you're in a room full of precious, unhappy cats all waiting for a new home? (It IS hard to leave any behind, but I can only afford ONE right now). Any tips (on ANY topic I've covered here) would be VERY welcome! 🤐!

Well, Nondescript, I have had some thirty cats in my lifetime, and all of them were what are called alley cats (alias "Mongrels"). They were fine cats and had very individual personalities. I had one that liked to jump into the shower with me, one that took walks with me and the dog, and maybe three that raced the dog to the door when I got home. I have nothing against registered breeds; however, you'll pay a thousand or two for a kitten, and you have noticed that some of the owners interviewed here said that cats should never be allowed outside. I suppose that if you pay thousands for a kitten, you have too much invested to allow it outside, even in the country. My cats did pretty well as inside-and-outside cats. I had several barn cats, which had to be allowed to go where they would to do their jobs, and they throve--the vermin did not!

All cats are deserving of love and there are valid reasons for choosing a bred cat, assuming research is done and an ethical breeder is chosen. You know what you're getting, and you get what works best for you, your home and your lifestyle. Too often, cats are adopted from shelters, then later returned. One can also determine what breed works best for them then seek out shelters that specialize in them.

I get you, sure you wouldn’t let small children out on their own. But those cats become adults, you can’t keep them locked up forever just in case something were to happen to them. Cats are very resilient and most are savvy to dangers and will be fine. It’s a risk but better to let them live their lives happy cats outdoors. You can always compromise and keep them in after dark if worried. The key here is if you live in an area with high traffic, dangerous wildlife or people then really you shouldn’t have a cat as a pet to begin with. Too many people put their needs above their pet. It’s unlucky in life but the facts are if you can’t provide a home with outdoor access for a cat then it’s not a suitable home. Sure a few breeds in certain climates, or medical problems may require indoor lives only but as a general rule the majority by far have to be allowed to live their lives with freedom. It’s seems to be an American thing this philosophy of indoor cats maybe that’ll change in time, as well as the law on banning declawing! I’m sorry if this offends you I’m sure your a very caring, loving owner. Indoor cats in the UK is mostly an alien philosophy, it’s akin to saying we have dogs and they live indoors the concept just sounds mad.

I had a wonderful cat. He was a Manx. Someone threw his mother out at my farm. My closest neighbor is about a mile away. My dogs got along with him just fine. I kept him in as a kitten. Got him neutered and all vaccinations given. kept him inside until he decided to become an outside cat. He acted more like a dog than a cat. I tried keeping him in but he managed to escape, would come in when he wanted to. Long story short he got some sort of lung infection and I had to have him put down. I could not afford the intubation and vet bill. He was fully vaccinated. I will probably never get another cat. It truly broke my heart. I live in a tiny house. I don’t have the proper accommodations for an inside cat so that is why I say I will never have another cat. I would never want that to happen again. He was my buddy. Made me laugh everyday of my life. Was so affectionate and fun to play with. He ruled the dogs. They used to all sleep together in the dog bed with him choosing his place on top of the lab. Inside only for cats!!

@@Anakinuk007 I don't know how many dead pets you pick up off the highway but after 4 or 5, you start to change your mind about 'savvy' animals. One of the cats I have was being badly bullied in a feral colony and removed for his safety. The other was born stray and adopted from a co-worker. He once got out and scaled 60 feet up a 120 ft tree, which the limbs start after 45 feet. We paid a climber to retrieve him on the 3rd day because he 100% wasn't getting down on his own. While you may think that 'just not having a cat' is the solution, it is a fact that north america has a huge problem with stray cat populations that negatively impact local wildlife. The solution is to get people to stop considering domestic cats as outdoor, unsupervised pets.
@Anakinuk007
@Anakinuk007 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vendettina - cats are naturally meant to live outdoors. They aren’t stupid animals, they are fine left unsupervised. Sure if you have an indoor cat that has never been outdoors, it’s likely the risk to health is far greater. If America has a huge feral cat population causing problems, that’s the issue to deal with not domestic cats being ‘allowed’ outside. In the UK as a general rule of thumb, there are no feral cats or dogs roaming around. The public would either home them, or take them to a shelter. Of course there are feral animals in the UK but it’s a extremely tiny number and in remote places. You have to make a distinction between domestic cats and feral cats, if you have huge numbers of feral cats roaming around then yes just like any wild animals you are going to see them dead on the side of the road. Domestic cats however don’t usually venture all that far away from the house, the average is 50m in any direction and up to a few hundred metres for the more inquisitive cat but the higher distance is more unusual. Which brings me back to my earlier point of ‘suitable homes’. A road with a few cars passing occasionally for residents should be no problem at all. Of course if you live next or near enough to a highway with speeding cars it’s not a good idea.

I used to be terrified of cats until I volunteered at a Vet hospital in 1979. The kennel cat and two patient cats changed my mind. One of the patients was a Siamese. In 1981 was when I had my first cat bought by mom who ironically hated cats. But she loved my first and second one years later. My late parents considered my first cats as their granddaughter and grandson. Cat 2 and 3 were Siamese. My last one lived to 19. I have two almost two year old cats who are my first pair and non Siamese. They're very dog like and they talk. Not a lick if Siamese in them. And I love them to pieces. I'll be in my 70's when they cross over. Needing cats I'll have to find new babies. Servitude to a cat is my destiny. When my dog passed I just couldn't find a suitable one. But it never failed with cats. Cats keep me going. I owe it all to the kennel cat Charlie, the Vet patients Cricket and Frank all those years ago. They taught me how wonderful cats are. I'm now very dependent on having a cat. I call mine to people I know my kids. And they always ask so how are the kids and I relate their exploits. They're brother and sister. They're my picture.

He took a couple breaths and passed on my lap. I cried all night. I begged Manny to send me more cats. I need them. One night he appeared to me just before I went to sleep. When I first got my cat in 2013. I walked her around my parents yard in the back it's only fenced on three sides. Anytime we go to visit, she stays in the backyard. Either she's not very inquisitive or that's all the larger yard that her grandma and grandpa have. One time my dad caught her peeking around the side of the house and he clapped his hands together and told her to get back to the yard and she took up like well a cat out of Hades and has never come out of the three-sided fence again. I started training her when she fit in the palm of my hand so that may make a big difference. She comes to her name and she comes to whistles she doesn't like the woods she stays on the perimeter and she likes to chatter and squirrels but is afraid of them when she's outside with them. Maybe I have a dog cat disguise.

I've seen 7 cats, from one neighbor, get killed in the past 3 years due to cars or accidents. If you live somewhere, where there are no serious predators, like GB, or if you have a farm with farm dogs that either drive off or kill foxes and coyotes, then cats are safe outdoors. Even in small towns, cats are generally relatively safe. In cities and suburbs? Outdoor cats generally live to be around 7 to 8 years old. Indoor cats? 12 to 18 years old, and sometimes older. No, they can't take care of themselves in highly developed population centers. That is born out by data.

I now have two Ragdolls but they are mostly indoor cats because I presently live in an area heavily populated by coyote. The coyote population here survives on rabbits and cats I'm sure. I will likely be moving in the next year or two and plan to allow them to be indoor outdoor cats at that time. My last one came and went at his leisure and so will my new cats.

Very sad not include the Maine Coon, which is "best cat breed" to more people I know than any other. I can report from my own experience that it is "better" in a number of ways than some of those here. Coons are so smart and they like to understand and join in what everyone else in the family is doing. They come to see what you are up to and find ways to help. They raise the alarm if something is going wrong somewhere in the house. They find invaders like mice and flying squirrels in an instant and keep them in check until you decide what to do. The tufts that come up above the top points of their ears are very cute, too! If you want a cat that can totally take care of itself, but you also like the closer understanding and cooperation that comes with smarter dogs, Maine Coons are great cats to pick!

My sweet old girl ( wearing an old baby cardigan, while unwell, in my thumbnail pic...not a rabbit, lol), is *22 human yrs old & doing well. She just saw the vet last week and has to have a tooth out tomorrow 🥺 but is doing FANTASTICALLY otherwise. The vet was super impressed of her blood work & general overall condition, which she said is much better than a lot of cats 1/3 of her age!..(when first considered as a 'senior', at about 7-8 human yrs). I believe being 22, makes her *108 'cat yrs'!!!! I'm VERY lucky that she has been super happy & healthy, as vets are extremely expensive..but necessary. Shadow, my old girl, was my daughter's childhood cat and her mother was my son's. Both my kids have grown & flown the nest, and we lost her mum in 2016 😭 so it's just myself and her these days. Except for being spayed when young, she has never 'needed' a vet until now. Vaccinations & general check ups are the only time she's ever been to the vets.. until now. I noticed her breath was quite foul last week, but she had literally just finished eating raw fish, so I didn't worry too much, but the next morning I woke up to face full of 'still' foul breath and noticed a slight swelling when I was giving her morning cuddles..which she was not impressed with and kept trying to stop me from looking, albeit VERY gently. She is such a sweet, gentle, lovely little critter! I immediately recognised her tooth (gum) was abscessed & got her to the vet on Thursday. After $286 (AUS) 😕 for her check-up that I thought was going to be $75-ish!.. & blood-work to see if she'd be able to cope with going under anaesthetic & the antibiotic to help with the infection, it added up to $286.. BEFORE tomorrow's surgery - (Tuesday 7th Dec 2021). It's going to be another $500-1000 (AUS)!!! Right at Christmas time and I'm on a disability pension. My daughter is going to help me set up a Go-Fund me page, but I have to pay at least 1/2 tomorrow and am already broke after Thursday's $286!! I'm REALLY hoping that because people can verify this is all true, and we are setting up the Go Fund me page with the Vet's information ($ to them.. not me, etc), that there just might be some animal lovers & advocates here in Australia, and internationally, that might want to help an old girl out. I'm just VERY aware it's Christmas time (my son turns 24 y/o, on Boxing Day & my daughter just her 29th in mid Nov)..so I'm well aware of the struggles so many of us have $$ wise at this time of year, especially with the pandemic still waging war on ppl's wages. We are only just reopening here in Melbourne, Australia and SO many ppl are still out of work. I'm just praying that if I get the word out, I may just get enough ppl, to donate $1-5 each, to help pay the remaining $400-500+ as of tomorrow. 🙏 🙏 🙏 *Does anybody know anywhere or have any ideas other than Go Fund me? I've never done a GoFund me before so my expectations aren't very high. 😔 She is such a sweet, happy, healthy old girl who has years ahead of her still, given her fantastic bill of health..except for he abscess & rotten tooth that will gone tomorrow. 💞

Judging by the fashion, hairstyles, music, furniture, and some of the opinions/perceptions, I’m guessing that this was filmed back in the 1970’s - back before animal car carriers, adventure-loving cats of loving, responsible owners. Still interesting information. Love, love, love my fur babies - all of them are rescues!!! 😻😻😻😻😻

I was thinking the same thing but @18: 51 "The Burmilla had been introduced in 1981 and is coming up to twenty years now" so that had me wondering and IMDb lists this as being released in June 2007. I guess it took a while to get it all together.

The loudest and most horrible sound made by any domesticated cat is the scream of the loudest breed (Oriental Shorthair) when in heat. I love my Orientals, but man, that is a noise.

I love cats, but due to a stroke and being paralyzed on my left side, I am now in a nursing facility in which the owner is allergic to cats, I am working hard now to get back in a wheelchair and be more independent to take care of a kitty again if it’s ever allowed. I am dreaming to once again have a companion.❤

I love Abys! Our latest Aby, as a kitten, went around our living room without touching the floor. She went from the top tier of her cat tree, soaring across a walkway for humans to the love seat , soaring across another human walkway to a chair, then along the window sill for the picture window behind the chair to the other chair to a bookcase to the fireplace mantel to the bookcase on the other side of the fire place soaring to credenza under the TV and then back to her cat tree ( top tier).

an excellent video that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a new companion, it will give you a good start in your research, remembering that there are other breeds in Europe but they tend to be more out of door cats (I am thinking of the delightful Norwegian forest cat, who could become quite neurotic locked in a small flat).

Breeders shouldn't even exist with as many feral cats as there are and with the individual characteristics of each cat being so diverse, yet they all share one thing in common, given proper love and care any cat will adapt to it's loving human and be as good or better a companion than any cat from a breeder.

And when you adopt an animal, cat or dog, they know you've rescued them and tend to show their 'thankfulness' with extra affection once they've adapted to their new circumstances. Btw, in my experience, you don't pick a cat, they pick you...

I love kitties that "talk" to you. I like it when it feels like you are having a conversation with the cat. I think it is funny the reaction you get from people that aren't very familiar with cats when you tell them that some cats will play fetch with you. It is easier now than back before youtube.. now you can just tell people to go look it up on youtube. I had one cat that would play fetch but he didn't like any kind of store bought toy he would only play with a piece of balled up aluminum foil. I had another cat that did like to play with store bought toys but his favorite toy for playing fetch was a piece of plastic hose that you would use for the water line on refrigerators (like to supply the icemaker with water) He was so smart and understood what you told him that if he dropped the toy too far away for you to reach it you could tell him to pick it up and bring it closer and he would do it. I used to love to play fetch with them as well as watch them bringing it back. With that cat I used to have to put all his toys away before we went to bed because if I didn't he would wake you up in the middle of the night "talking" very loudly to his toys, The first few times I heard it I thought he was dying or something but nope he was just "talking" to his toys lol He was part maine coon and part rag doll from our best guess (we didn't do a dna test on him) He had fur that was mostly silver and then some white spots and some grey stripes on his head. I found him at a vet hospital I was working at. We got him fixed and then about a year later someone brought in another kitten that looked just like the boy.. The only difference you could tell between the two cats was if they were walking away from you with their tail up you would be able to tell which was the male and which was the female. They were both brought in by different people from different areas and I thought man if I hadn't already had the boy fixed I would have encouraged them to make babies because I thought they would make beautiful babies. Since I already had the male fixed I went ahead and did the responsible thing and got the female fixed also,

I've known people who kept their cat indoors for their entire life. Cats should be able to come and go anytime they choose. They like to go out at night and nap during the day. We always had cats when I was a kid. They were able to come in or go out of the house anytime they wanted. We had two cats, a calico and a siamese, the siamese was my favorite because he liked lots of attention which is what I loved about him, we also had a German shepherd. The dog and the cats always got along..they were friends.

This is very true. It’s cruel to turn your cat into an ‘indoor cat’. American cat owners are weird the way they insist on keeping them indoors. Cats should be able to come and go as they please.

@@chrisjames1924 I've known some people who would take their cat to a veterinarian and have their claws removed. I never could understand that in fact it should be made against the law. I would never do that to a cat. They say that cats damage furniture with their claws. We've had a number of cats when I was growing up and none of them damaged anything. Some people shouldn't be allowed to have a cat.

We have six cats who live with us: Miriam and Moses (siblings) were adopted from our vet. The mother was a barn cat. Snowflake, Cutie Pie, and Samantha found our home - they spent time on the deck outside the bedroom. Samantha was introduced to our home by Pamela (we did not realize Pamela was a male) - he escorted her into the bedroom and walked around the bathtub twice while Samantha sat and watched. She is very attached to me and is currently sleeping on my lap. When Pumpkin died we went to a pet store where we found Butterscotch. All of the cats get along. Two cats live on our deck: Golda a long-haired orange cat and Junior a short-haired orange cat who appears to be ready to come in.

My mom says "it makes me want to go out and buy a cat" . We are dog people so that's really saying something. If a cat can be dog like and pick and be chill or chill or willing to be active either one take it or leave it on the infection but really seek out the companionship of being together without being in each other's face that's cool with us

I've had two cornish rex and while they are absolutely gorgeous in real life, very social and playful.. They are not very affectionate compared to a siamese. My cornish cats would come to my lap occationally, but usually would lie down a few feet away. If you're looking for a needy cat a siamese would be a better choice.

Actuall, and I dob't want to hurt your feeling at all, the best is if somebody adopt and not buy a cat. A mixed breed that can be affectionate too, and the money would help many other cats who need it.

I have aways had two 🐈 at any one time throughout my 74 years pure bred (mine coon) and "moggies " I have loved them all and broke 💔 my heart when they died . At present I only have one ,a black rescued moggie. No one would adopt him as he was black and has FIV but he's been a treasure. He is an indoor cat ,very vocal and follows me around like a dog ,my daughter's dog loves him and they are very happy when they are together much to my daughters surprise as he chases his own cats,

I couldn't imagine my life without my gutter cat, who was matched to me by his rescue. He's the sweetest most sensitive being, and we truly love spending time together. I really don't know why you would go for a breed unless you're allergic. Cats are all unique individuals, and matching expectations to individual cats guarantees a much better result than blindly purchasing a breed.

This is an informative and interesting discussion on cat breeds. One issue I wished was addressed is any genetic health issues the different breeds might have. Especially the Persian breed with the very small, short noses. For whatever the reason it seems the breeders have made this breed with possible breathing issues. Barbara

I always end up getting a cat at random, and then I fall in love with the breed because I love that particular cat. The first one that found me was a Maine Coon mix--I knew she had to be a mix, because she was constantly angry, and I couldn't imagine loving a non-angry cat. But now I have the world's mellowest Manx, and I wouldn't change a hair on his head.

I have a young 2 yo cat, with egyptian mau/bengal influences. A then-unspayed cat of mine had kittens, and when passed away unexpectedly several months after, he became their big brother and care taker. He calls them by chirring and they go to sleep together in an inhabited room in the back. He lies down and the kittens proceed to knead on his stomach. he also plays with them.
