The impact of tourists’ return to vacation in a charred Lahaina, Maui

This winter, vacationers in Maui were seen purchasing paddleboat trips on one side of the beach, while “Lahaina Strong” flags stood in front of local residential tents on the other.
These makeshift shelters serve as a way of protest for dignified housing. Thousands of residents lost their homes, businesses and members of their community to the deadly wildfires that occurred on the island on August 8, 2023.
According to residents, they were then disrupted by the early reopening of tourism on the island as they faced not only loss of their properties, but also respect for their home.

Shame on all state legislators. You will be held accountable under the law. You should be investigating the governor and Maui mayor and commission members and the chief of police/ coroner. They should be arrested for what happened and is still happening. The governor has overstepped his power and the Hawaii legislature is complicit in these crimes. It is unlawful to keep property owners from their properties. Gov Green will not allow the property owners to have competent representation of lawyers from the mainland. Where is that loudmouth Mazie Hirono. Step up lady, your inaction makes you complicit.

What about the insurance money! What percentage of the building were insured? As an insurance adjuster fire is covered, if your insurance company isn't paying than the state insurance board and Governor should step in! Good luck and God speed.

This is an inaccurate portrayal of the situation on Maui. The "Hawaiian Kingdom" was never more than an idea in a few emotional and distorted greedy minds. The "aina" was not stolen, it was sold by the Moi of the day in order to help position themselves above the makaainana. Today many locals are lazy and drug addicted, begging the government for concessions while they cry "priced out of paradise". Eh locals, it's time to go if you cannot afford to keep up.
