So according the (US) reporters, it's not that Canada won the game by an incredible come-back, it's that the US lost it. What if it was the other way around then these commentators would be saying look at us! We never give up! We over came and won! It was a tough lose but at least give the Canadians credit for winning it...sheesh.

Watching the USA Women's players cry was so sweet!!! Anybody that has been following this rivalry over the years knows just how BEYOND bad sports the US Women's hockey team has been. It started with them taunting a Canadian hockey player about her recently deceased father during the first gold medal olympic game (documented this happened despite the american media saying it wasn't so) and has probably only got worse. I could not have wished for a better way for this game to go, it was sweet revenge. The commentators talked about the games leading up to this one, well when it comes to hockey "Canada is like Superman", we will play as hard as we have to, and when needed, we always have more strength to spare if needed, and will use it when necessary.

77dris Wow, have some sportsmanship, dumbass. Whether the US women had any or not towards the Canadian women is irrelevant. They have a fierce Olympic rivalry which is kept in check by sportsmanship at the end of the games. I'm happy the US lost too, but I don't go about disrespecting these women.
@77dris
@77dris 9 жыл бұрын
Ok since you started it DUMBASS, the US women's team "disrespected" not only the Canadian team, they made fun of a player's dead father. Is that sportsmanship DUMBASS? NOPE! So from that point on it was "war" on ice that has become worse over the years. It's not about sportsmanship, the US made it personal. The US Women's hockey team not only "disrespected" the Canadians, they made themselves look like complete *rhymes with witches* when they stepped over that line. Ask the Canadian Women's Hockey team how much sportsmanship the US team shows them at the end of the games? I've seen interviews, and it's always the same answer... "none". Btw, dumbass "disrespect" is not a verb. LOL Glad you are online, if you use the word "dumbass" in person as you do online, you would be black and blue most of the time.

It was a heartbreaker for the US...but as has been said elsewhere...perhaps this is (karmic?) payback for the way the American team wiped their feet on/stomped on the Canadian flag in the US dressing room in Salt Lake City. The "hockey gods" do not like arrogance or hubris...perhaps this is simply slowly-meted punishment for that horrible, childish act 12 years ago (as was Salt Lake, Torino and Vancouver, I guess)...on to Pyeongchang!

Canada sent 220 athletes to the Sochi Games. 63 of them came home with at least 1 gold medal. Pretty good. More than double the next nation. A function of Canada sweeping the team sport golds ... double (men's and women's) golds at both hockey and curling. Apparently Canada is good at the team game. Added Note: Ask any Russian and they'll tell you Gold in men's hockey is worth more than gold in every single other event at the Games, combined.

Anyone criticizing the US women for being visibly upset has no understanding of what they went through, how incredibly hard they worked and what they all sacrificed to be there, to get so close and then lose. Losing an Olympic gold medal game of hockey is always rough - show me a silver medal winning team that doesn't look distraught! Show me how dignified and positive the runners up are in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. After 16 years of trying, to be such a great team and then have things slips away at the last moment... it still hurts me to think about it, and I'm not one of the players! Absolutely insane that people would criticize their attitude in that moment. Sickening.

That's ridiculous, loads of Olympians show visible distress after losing or not performing the way they wanted. What does "overt display of bad tempers" even mean? The crying isn't the issue, they just aren't allowed to look upset? You're arbitrarily decided what an appropriate level of "decorum" is, and it's bullshit. Watch any of the post game interviews with Julie Chu or Meghan Duggan if you want to see grace in the face of pain and disappointment. Not to mention Amanda near tears again as she talks about how they wanted to win this for Julie.

the officiating in overtime was scandalous and as a Canuck,I'd wish I'd never seen the slow mo-replay on the 2 U.S. penalties-total B.S.- not a way we canucks usually would want to win. just scandalous
@mlk5454
@mlk5454 8 жыл бұрын
+Tim Mullens The officiating was questionable throughout the game. The USA got away with hits (penalty in women's hockey) while the Canucks went into the penalty box. In the first period M Lamoureux flattened Larocque without a penalty being called, but less than a minute later Watchorn gets called for tripping on Duggan's academy award performance. Furthermore, Lamoueux took out Ouellette's leg at 8:35 of the 2nd period with a major hit and the American should have gone to the box for that dangerous contact. The refs failed to call the USA for whacking at Szabados pads during regulation time and finally called it on a weaker display in OT. If the refs had rightly called it during reg time then maybe the USA wouldn't have continued to try to intimidate using methods which got them in the box in OT. Quite pleased that Poulin scored two goals given the USA/Duggan twisted Poulin's leg and Lamoureux cross checked her on the back when Poulin was on the ice. Say what you want about OT. Knight's penalty was legit, and the USA was lucky it wasn't a penalty shot. In the end both teams had close to the same number of penalties. The USA had gold within their grasp and it slipped away in the last 3 and a half minutes of the third period because they couldn't shut the door on a team that refused to fold. The Canadians didn't give up and their effort won the game. This was not a scandalous win when you look at the complete game. Gotta love hockey.

Well, that was honestly a very intense game to watch. However, this was pretty much the same thing that happened two years ago in soccer. I don't see what "impact" it would make to their lives except for them to get back on their skates and try again. Hockey is the sport Canada dominates at. We would not give up a gold that easy. The Canadian women have really played amazing the last half of the game.

I think it's ridiculous, and kind of disgraceful, that in any Olympic sport winning a sliver medal merits such anger and tears. I mean, what the hell kind of message are we sending to our kids? Of course there will be, and should be disappointment but this video is talking about 'the heartbreaking loss' these women faced... well, does not one single adult on this team have anything to say or feel about WINNING a silver medal? It's such a bad message to have 'heartbreaking' feelings after coming in second. THIS is exactly what's wrong with sports today. It's not about fun anymore... hasn't been for a long time. How about showing your children that you WON second place rather than lost first place. In all of the hockey teams around the world that come to these games, US and Canada are consistently among the best... but it seems for everyone affiliated with hockey especially the players, first is best and second is worst... and that's NOTHING to teach our children. Grow up.
@bagelboy420

+Alfred Newman You're right. "Silver is worse than bronze" is in fact nothing new. In the ancient Olympics, there was only a prize for whoever came in 1st, and coming in 2nd was considered a huge disgrace. In my eyes, there has ALWAYS been too much importance placed on winning. At the _elite level,_ there has NEVER been a "love for the sport", only a love for victory

It was a heartbreaking loss for the USA team and one has to feel sorry for those kids. But one team always has to lose and this time, it was the USA. (As a UCLA football fan, believe me, I know how it feels to lose to a close rival.) But I digress... there were a couple of errors that I would like to note. First of all, to say that the USA played better hockey for 56 minutes is kind of silly. Both teams played their hearts out, and if you look at the stats, it's obvious that the teams were very evenly matched -- play up to that point showed it - the USA was luckier than Canada during that time, hence the 2 goals. Those two goals were quickly negated in the last 5 minutes of the game. Canada didn't play better hockey than the USA during those 5 minutes - they were just luckier during that time. Same with the OT...Canada didn't play better than the USA...they were just luckier. Like baseball, hockey is often a game of inches when it comes to scoring as witness the puck bouncing off the goal post in the last minute and a half of regular time. If the two teams played 20 games, I suspect each would win 10, that's how evenly matched they are. The other point... the Canadian team did not score their goal on a 5-3 power play... it was 4-3... the TV reporters got it wrong. Finally: Canada and the USA are head and shoulders above all other national women's teams and it's a shame (but understandable) that they dislike each other so much.
