I think the best way to realize why the necrons are humanities greatest ally is that quote from the infinite and the divine where trazyn says "Weak, frail, of short lifespans and dangerously advanced technology, don't they remind you of something orikan?" the necrons know exactly how it feels to be human

 @livefromtheblacklibrary I kinda think that the Necrons will be interested in keeping Humanity around in some way or form because we might be their best hope for apotheosis and regaining bodies of flesh and blood. Necron'Tyr and humans seem pretty similar physiologically (atleast when comparing human skeletons to average Necron designs) and the Egyptian symbolism seems like a very intentional parallel. Not to mention the Void Dragon having come to Earth in the ancient past and the apparent presence of Necron tech on Mars when that random Necron fleet made a mad dash for it. The Necrons had to have known about Humanity to some extent after the Old Ones created us. Then there are the old Necron Pariahs. They may be old lore that is ignored or forgotten nowadays, but I always thought there had to be a particular reason that Humans, out of all the races in the galaxy, were the ones that Necrons chose to experiment on in such a way. And not just because of the Pariah gene that causes some humans to be born as blanks. While the origin of blanks and untouchables has never really been officially explained, considering that blanks are considered to be reverse-psykers of a kind, and the Necrons are the only known species to make use of the only material known to be capable of reversing warp energies (Blackstone), I really feel like Humanity and the Necrons have to have some bigger link, both in the past and possibly intended for future lore. I've always had a tinfoil hat theory that the Necrons and/or C'tan are actually the ones who created the Pariah gene in the first place, and that they introduced it to ancient Humanity while we were still "fresh". Possibly in an attempt to sabotage the Old Ones' newest weapon that was going to be used against them. Humans are obviously a relatively psychic race and getting more so all the time. So, I wonder if we would have been just as psychically gifted, if not moreso, than the Eldar if we evolved according to the Old One's original plan. But since we know the Necrons and C'tan fear warp energies above all else, I think their tampering could have stunted our psychic growth and even resulted in the occasional blank being born. Seems like a way of turning the Old Ones' newest pet species against them. This is why I really wish they would reintroduce Necron Pariahs back into the story. There are so many interesting ways they could move the story forward using them.

using the humans as shields is probably necessary from szarekh's perspective as every time he cant completely obliterate a tendril of the hive fleet, it sends a bit more info back to the hivemind about necrons. his greatest fear is probably the fleet creating an effective anti-necron form that resists molecular attacks through some fusion of sorcery and evolution. such a tyranid would be almost invincible to everyone who isnt capable of orokin or mephisto levels of power, or is a strong enough blank. tyranids adapting to kill humans is bad, tyranids adapting to kill necrons is far worse

So, a list of counter-arguments regarding the Necrons : -Trazyn being the reliable ally of Spire is put into perspective by the Necron side of the story. Trazyn effectively forced Amarkun (the Phaeron of the Nepheru) into defending his unactivated World Engine against Spire's assault, presumably because either outcome would benefit him. It's not Trazyn being a good ally, it's him trolling two people into ruining eachother day. (Granted, the narrative could change since, in the Imperium campaign, Amarkun is already dead, but it's Trazyn...he pulled a prank on Orikan once and created an Exterminatus because of it, he's anything but reliable). -Whilst Trazyn, Anrakyr and Szarekh have shown a modicum of respect toward Humanity , the vast majority of them do think Humans are slave-material at best and unworthy trashes at worst, because the Bio-transfert turned their previous megalomania to obsessive levels. And that's not counting those Necrons with genuine reasons to think the Imperium should crumble, as a revenge act for the destruction of Tomb Worlds. -Currently, Szarekh's plan against the Tyranids and Chaos is to build various "Nexuses" around the galaxy, where Noctilith technology basically block the Warp to the point that Humans "lose their souls" and die of inactivity. The Pariah Nexus is the most exposed one, but Psychic Awakening confirmed Szarekh had more built and he apparently plans to harvest the humans locked in it to see if they can be used to reverse the Bio-Transfert. Like, don't get me wrong, I agree with the vast majority of your points and I'm not even here to defend the Aeldari (it's not like there were much to defend anyway), but the idea that the Necrons are potential allies for the Imperium and not another major threats like Chaos, the Orks or the Tyranids is completely invalid now that Szarekh is fully active. I do not know if it's GW's writers forgetting what Szarekh did and say in "Words of the Silent King" or if there's yet unrevealed character traits between that short story and Pariah Nexus, but it's fair to say the Imperium has no hope for allies in this situation.

-Trazyn is a slippery bastard but he is supresingly candid in his dealings, he helped Cawl with the Cadian pylons for instace, plus even the most pedestrian of Farseers outclass him on the field of double crossing and if you doubt me just look at almost any Dawn of War Campaign. -The most deference I've ever seen an Eldar show to a human was Eldrad talking to Guillimen (even there he chastised Robute for not speaking his Knife eared language properly lol) meanwhile Szarekh honored Sanguinius and it's outright stated that he respected him as apposed to Eldars viewing all humans as means to an end. "Esteemed foe" is a far cry more respectful than "Mon Keigh" -Unlike many of the Imperium's enemies, the Necrons can be reasonable. Ergo it's entirely possible for Bobby G to solve that situation with diplomacy.

@@Dogue83 Okay, I see your point. It could happen, but I see Szarekh into too advantageous of a situation to concede a diplomatic solution. He's winning the War for the Nexus after all. My personnal take is that GW doesn't want to use alliances between aliens and the Imperium anymore. None of any described after Vigilus Ablaze has worked at all, either because the Imperium shot the alien party or because the alien party was unnanounced. The Ynnari moving from "allied to the Imperium to actively hunted by the Grey Knights" could be a symptom of that. You can also add the renewed aggression of more sensible species against Mankind since 9th Edition (Tau 4th Sphere of Expansion going berserk on them, Necron Pariah Nexuses and that kind of things). I admit my reasonning here willefully ignores BL novels, because whilst they can be awesome, it's pretty clear those novels are their own authors interpretation rather than some plan layed out by GW. Szarekh going from "We need Mankind" in WotSK to what he does in Warzone Nephilim shows this contradiction. For that reason, I wouldn't take Word of the Silent King as gospel. It is a 2014 novella released to explain the lore for Devil's Crag after the fact. Szarekh existed back then, but GW had no plan to exploit his character yet (he had no model after all). Ultimately, time will tell, but I'm well convinced GW will keep up with the motto "there is only war" and keep Szarekh and the Necrons as doom ennemies for the Imperium.

I think it's unfair to discount the eldar seeing as to how much they helped the return of guilleman, and his return to terra. That wasn't just Ynnari but also the laughing god's intervention and unlike tzeenitch he doesn't just do shit to 'do it' He's been screwing over slannesh with a fraction of her power and she can't even really handle them. Their death god and Khaine may be failures but it's likely they might be used or even fused to unite what little of the eldari there is. Not to mention the Eldari tried to prevent a decent amount of the Horus heresy, save their attack on Angron which cause the entire problem with angron, they were also being lured by the Eldari into conflict with xenos that would have otherwise remained hidden and became a huge problem for the imperium... So yea are the Eldari always trying to make sure they come out on top of each deal --Yes.... but that's what an Ally is and does they are not your slave or nation they got their own shit to worry about.
@sovietunion7643
@sovietunion7643 11 ай бұрын
the problem is that the writers really fumbled the end of the ynnari books right as people have really been getting into 40k on masse because of darktide, and other factors. unfortunately we have to agree that the company is going to focus on factions based on who is going to buy them, and the eldar lacking in the ability to really even have recent cohesive story that doesn't fumble itself really sets it back. very few people buy eldar sets, focusing more on orks, humans or necrons. its an death spiral of 1. people don't play eldar much 2. eldar story gets less focus for eldar and so writing quality drops 3. because of worse/older/out-of-date lore people play it even less and you have models that are now over 20 years old for eldar 4. repeat. if the direction doesn't change soon the eldar may have a serious problem and the writers for 40k don't always have the best track record for non-human factions anyway.

I would play devil's advocate and argue that Orks are more reliable than Eldar by the same logic. The Imperium has hired ork mercenaries, from freebooter pirates to blood axe kommandoz, and even sided with an ork group to fight a larger foe. Despite these two groups' hostility, orks are even more dependable as their motives are more straightforward. They want a good fight and once the battle is over, they will predictably turn their shootahs on the imperium. The Eldar are naturally enigmatic and unpredictable great for behind-the-scenes manipulation, not great when they are your ally. If the Imperium sides with the Orks, they at least know the Orks will be on the front lines fighting, having a good time, unlike the Eldar.

Honestly, the Eldar need to accept the fact that they aren’t the top dog anymore. I still think they can be a great ally for the Imperium. But the quicker they recognize that their shit doesn’t smell any better than anyone else’s, the better. Also, the Grey Knights need to stop focusing on the Ynarri for a moment and redirect their focus on the Tyranids, mainly their psychic units like Zoanthopes. That way, the Ynarri can rebuild their strength… and so the Eldar can play a bigger part in the setting as a whole. Yes, I’m also aware that the Necrons are the most well equipped to fight the bugs. But Eldar Shuriken Launchers can tear the bugs apart with relative ease too. And better communication with Imperial Forces could also strengthen this partnership too.

The best way I can describe the differences between the Eldar and the Necrons on the pretext that they both fill in that “Old but Powerful” trope. They are, hands down, one of the factions the imperium keeps an eye out for just of sheer dread they become a problem. They are very unique race that GW could bring out at anytime since they work like a fusion between the Tau, the imperial guardsmen, and the Tyranids, but but with heavy aerial emphasis. For Xenos it depends on how the story plays out. If it is a last stand, no Tyranid crosses this line then yes the Necrons. But the story could just as much go in another way, as what if the Shadow in the Warp makes warp travel to hard to do so the Webway is needed. Guilliman has as many Inquisitors to find something they can make a deal for the Eldar use and guide of it. Of course not every Eldar will like this from all walks of life, so still combat can/will happen, but they are allies in more of a resource sharing sense. Another possibility is humanity's best ally is itself. It is in 2 main factions the Imperium and Chaos. "Let's celebrate what unites us all, Xenophobia". Have a story where the Thousand Sons and/or Red Corsairs save some Imperium ships from a sneak attack. Redo the whole Imperial Fists/Iron Warriors team up from the War of the Beast.

Necrons are indeed Humanity's best chance of an ally. That's really all I have to say on the matter. The Aeldari, Ynnari and the rest of the knife ears are too busy being treacherous little sweat goblins, meanwhile the Tau have the situational awareness of Hellen Keller on a good day. The Necrons recognise that the Tyranids are overall, on par with Chaos for galaxy ending crisis. However the Tyranids more-so are a threat to one of the secondary goals of the Necrons, reversing their bio-transference. Due in part to the fact that if the galaxy doesn't have organics in it for them to try an draw specimens from for experimentation in that, they cannot even possibly hope to begin those experiments.

The Necrons are definitely the best option. The tau are a insignificant force on a galactic scale. Well the eldar are in a similar position, with the addition of being incapable of holding any agreement for longer than 10 minutes. With Necrons assuming that they bother to talk to humans, there generally pretty good for there word. That trust makes them alot more appealing as a ally

Personally I think it'd be the Harlequins, Votann leagues, a select few craftworlds AKA Ulthwe and Iyanden and the Silent king's faction amongst the Necrons. I am saying this purely for strategy which is different than what would actually happen if you want to make a story The Votann would in some manner see the Imperium at least as related to them and you know act like them meaning there's a far lesser cultural and straight up "our brains work differently" barrier than with the Eldar for example and in addition they focus largely on making good supply chains for entire planets they straight up crack and mine out of existence, all their tech is related to that of the Imperium but just better so there's less to learn about the weaponry used by the Votann in an ally situation, even with them in the galactic core they, as traders, would be exceedingly good at keeping up an actual supply chain The Harlequins is in it's entirety about the fact Cegorach would tell them to not be fucking morons. Isha the other Eldar god is just straight up benevolent by helping ANY race via telling them how to deal with Nurgle's plague and it's highly likely Cegorach is in some manner similar to her in mindset and attitude just... clowner in addition he would be most likely to force his followers to be less fucking arrogant for one his followers and they already seem to partially act more like the necrons with their thoughts and expression of superiority and secondly Cegorach in Eldar legend straight up tried to give the Eldar humility as a gift (not enough of it as we can see but still). He's likely to be closer to the silent king in mindset and attitude BUT just straight up more benevolent as the Eldar see and worship him likely as benevolent in his own way. Ulthwe I say WOULD work is because of Eldrad's entire philosophy on humanity and how humanity and the Eldar's fates are glued together AND with his former friendship with the Big E he's also likely to tell people he has influence over to not be as arrogant. Iyanden because we've just straight up seen them not be arrogant when we have the small short story of the Grey Knights giving them soulstones and have at least cordial relations with the Imperium as a whole as a regular ass human could STEAL ONE OF THEIR BIKES and they had AN EMBASSY FOR AN INQUISITOR on their craftworld. They already seemingly have similar or most likely better relationship than the T'au have with the Imperium You already went over the Silent King but I must specify HIM specifically since there's also Imotekh who's his own can of worms

Never seen your channel before but I love this first impression. It’s so rare to see anyone outright state that the imperium is necessary to humanity’s survival. I think people can’t see past “imperium bad”, and don’t realise that part of the horror and grimdark is that, in a setting as violent and brutal as 40k’s galaxy, only a culture that abandons compassion could truly stand against all threats without any other esoteric tools of war, such as mechanical immortality or mastery of the warp. I will, however, go to bat for the Kin, at least a little, as a fanboy often must. While I lament their lack of integration into the story so far (and am overjoyed to hear the rumours you mention about a novel, as I hadn’t heard them before), we do have some information about them to go on in terms of how they could contribute. For one, we’ve heard that the kin actually had a presence in the segmentum, mining worlds that were abandoned as the oncoming swarm approached. They clearly have enough presence across the galaxy to be able to at least reach the conflict. But moreso, the Kin have been known to work as mercenaries for any who can provide a tempting enough payment. They’ve worked with the imperium plenty enough, trading with them and hiring on as mercenaries. They definitely could be convinced to join the Tyrannic war, if offered a prize tempting enough. But we also know the Kin are so ballsy and industrious that they have followed around hive fleet tendrils, launching frequent small raids, in order to acquire biomass to use in scientific pursuits and as raw material for their cloning crucibles. They respect the tyranids, but they are not above taking them on for the sake of it. Now, this video is about “who’s the best ally”, and so we can’t really say for sure with the Votann, just because they’re so knew and unproven, so I can understand why you wouldn’t put them at number one. But I would be shocked if they don’t make some showing in the conflict, and most likely as a party nuetral to the imperium.

In Total Warhammer, the usual diplomatic penalty you get from being too powerful is flipped on the Tomb Kings, who are in awe of your mighty empire and thus see you as equals, turning their usual contempt for lesser Empires into a diplomacy bonus. Making them one of the few factions you can count on to not break away from you in the end game.

And them allying with the Imperium is basicallya grandpa with a 12g Shotgun helping a child with a airsoft gun fight off a bunch of wild animals to keep them off their lawn. They are superior, but are will to help others when it aids their goals. And them actually respecting humans, by name as well, shows how superior they are to everyone else, but also how honorable they are to those they actually consider allies. Some Necrons desire to reverse the bio transference and the blight of the Flayer Curse seems to give them some reasoning for 'harvesting' Humanity as the C'tan set in place eons ago. That script delivered by the necrons on them wearing these trinkets to honour their dead even when they do not mourn their losses was brilliantly sculpted. Necrons are a very interesting race, some dynasties behave very differently than others, and when they have been given their "minds" or personality back they really change because their motives are still unknown. They are not a big as threat to the imperium as Orks, chaos, Tyranids, and other malign races. Even though Necrons are truly deadly. Them forming an alliance with humans and assisting survival of humanity, though with selfish goals in mind, does lend them a certain credibility. And Necrons would find they share a lot with the Mechanicus. Necron or necrontyr returned in mind and spirit whilst still in bodies of living metal, could become a great ally to the Imperium at the most desperate times. There is this AUDIObook with GREAT voice acting and sound effects that has a necron lord trapped by Ahriman, The dialogue for him with those voice effects were masterful, "We conquered the stars and broke mortality, our wars burned reality and the dominion of our kings is without limit."

just from the headline, I asked myself that question while getting some water. I came to the same conclusion, from other bits of lore and thinking. 1st one entire faction in the Human Imperium is basically Necron Light (Although don't let the Adeptus Mechanicus hear that). 2nd Necron stand for Order. Something that the Imperium tries very hard to achieve. While Tau and Eldar are basically on the side of Order, they are too chaotic to really be Allied properly to it. 3rd Squats... I mean Leagues of Votann, while being Standards of Order, and basically being Human descended. They are weak and ineffective at this point in history. (Glad they are back with better lore than just "Space Dwarf") 4th Orcs you can bait them to be useful, but they aren't even allied to themselves. 5th... by the year 50k (if humans don't succumb to chaos, or are eaten by Nyds.) Necrons might find a way to control the Imperium, as Humans are very much like Necrontyr, and because of this Necrons might one day decide Humans are worth being a part of their empire. ((Note not much is know about the Necrontyr, but the few clues about them, and because the Old Ones died out 65 million years ago, means Humanity is not one of their creations, but we might be a creation of the Silent King. As to the Fan theory of the Tau being creations of the Silent King, the evidence actually disproves it rather quickly when you look closely. ))

Not somebody who ever made the choice to take up the Command in rule of a whole people. But who had to do what they had to do? Because it was the right thing to do for the people that they cared about. In that sense I could imagine them having a very good report with one another. To the point where yes I can genuinely see the silent king requesting to Be given a death mask of probably the one human friend he has ever had. Honestly necrons and humans are so alike I suspect a shared lineage (my theory is Old Ones seeded Terra with proto-necrontyr DNA as another gamble at a weaponized species like eldar and krork). That said, humans may be too similar to necrons for their own good. If necrons manage to reposition themselves as the dominant faction, one of their stated goals is to reverse the biotransferance by taking over HUMAN bodies.

I believe that theory myself and it fits the old ones. The old ones probably did it as one last Good deed. Reseeding the extinct race on an unmentionable planet to the galactic south.

Necron Supremacy! The only xenos I'll ever tolerate! Serious tho, I agree 100% that the crons are the best option for humanity's ally. I really hope GW finally does something with Silent King in 10th

Between the orks and the Necrons, they are the front runners of the Xenos in the setting. So yes Necron are the best ally of humanity in both power and reliability.

You mean, like when Szarekh was given neither novels or campaign books for his return and his plan for the Pariah Nexus boiled down to "These humans are annoying, fetch the C'tan Shards" ? Seriously, the T'au have more going on narratively than the oldest character in the setting.

@@cdg196 No, but they're the only race who got a spot on Arks of Omen. Meanwhile, Szarekh hasn't made a PoV appearance even when his new model showed and the Aeldari didn't get one since being screwed over in Psychic Awakening. Meanwhile, the T'au got a progression of their 7th Edition own dedicated campaign series (Kauyon and Mont'Ka) during Psychic Awakening : The Greater Good, then Farsight got a PoV book in Arks of Omens. And that's not counting the entire narrative of the Goddess Tau'Va, which is now featured across two PoV Tau novels. All the other Xenos species can hope for is to be support cast for Space Marines or fodder.

@@farseeraradrel4808 Fair points, but some of the Best WH books with Xenos as the main characters are mostly Necrons( and orks). And you mentioned the Arks of Omen books, but the Tau story is the most disconnected from the Arks of Omen story.

@@cdg196 Yeah, the best xenos novel are definitely Orks and Necrons, no match. But in context of the video, I imagine we're talking about "the main plot", so campaign books and all that. For all their quality, the Necron novels we're probably thinking (Twice Dead-King and Infinite&Divine) are disconnected from that narrative. That Tau are the only Xenos race who somehow carved their own space in this story, without having to support the Imperium to be present. The Aeldari had that spot, but it's mainly use to take a dump on them these days

Szarekh might also look to revert biotransference and create living immortal bodies for his people but to achieve this goal, the necrons still need living organisms to study and as vessel. something that would be gone if tyranid nomed the galaxy.

I think that necrons want to use humans as vessels to reverse bio transference and they are forced to keep humans surviving but not to dominate galaxy

Necrons are the coolest. They're edgy and grimdark, but not as gratuitous or frivolous as the Drukhari of Chaos. As allies to the Imperium, they bring VASTLY more firepower than the T'au or Eldar, and while they may be "raging plasteel dildos", you're right about their big "warscythe" energy. If humans continue to prove themselves both competent and honorable, they might end up earning the sp00ky bois' respect.

Me tons are interesting because you could also argue they want humans alive for the possibility of using their bodies to become mortal again. Another thought that occurred to me is that necrons might not genocide humanity when for that same reason and a somewhat peaceful coexistence could be possible.

I feel like necrons are the most similar to humans on a personal and cultural level. They very quite a bit on a person to person level. They have differing goals and the ones that aren't just too mustache twirling are pretty much metal humans personality wise.
