In this breakdown analysis, I take a closer look at the importance of setting and controlling the pace. I give examples of different fighting styles and how you can also look to improve your use of pace in a fight or understand it better while watching fights.

I would also add that this is the type of video that makes people who don’t box appreciate the technical aspect of boxing more and makes them want to learn how to box. Win-win-win for everyone.

Aaron Pryor would throw 100 punches a fight throughout a 15 round fight. Margarito also threw a lot during his prime, but we all know what happened with him. Today, a big man like Benavidez. I remember Jirov doing a crazy pace at Cruiserweight also. Anyways love the channel.

Thank you, Jimmy for another excellent video upload in regard to sharing your perspective of setting and controlling the pace. As a true and very dedicated boxer, personally I'm an outside fighter. I'm an ambidextrous switch hitter/southpaw boxer. I'm blessed with a shot gun jab and I stay defensively responsible with a high guard defense (similar to Ronald "Winky" Wright as a southpaw). In my opinion, Dmitry Bivol is for me the perfect outside fighter to study! He definitely sets the pace in his victories, stays defensively responsible, and throws a high volume of punches. His footwork (pendulum step) is excellent. I'm a southpaw/switch hitter that boxes similar to Bivol, but as a southpaw Bivol. I'm in essence a technician in regards to my influences (Ronald "Winky" Wright, Andrae "SOG" Ward, and Dmitry Bivol). In regard to your video, I like Bivol's style because I consider him an outside fighter that's aggressive, defensively responsible, a counter puncher, and he definitely sets the pace. The perfect example, Dmitry Bivol's victory against Canelo Alvarez.

Other examples of aggressive pressure Duran against Sugar Ray Leonard and the second/third fights with DeJesus. In the second Dejesus fight he set a very fast pace and was knocked down in the first round by a right hand, but remained committed to that fast pace, with DeJesus eventually tiring out and succumbing to the immense pressure after a spirited effort. In the third fight, he took a more fundamental approach, boxing DeJesus and establishing a rhythm of just breaking him down. Against Leonard, he was able to hurt him early and drag him into a fast paced fight on the inside, where he almost always had the tactcical advantage. If anything, its a testament to Leonard's brilliance that he put up the performance he did, even in defeat

great video. I'm glad someone else views Callum Smith the way i do. He is great on the outside, good at mid-range but not so good on the inside. I have always wondered why he doesn't implement more tactics to stay in his strongest range. He could be using more backward footwork, more check hooks, more frames and head manipulations and more clinching imo.
