9:08 "It's goo do look away and clear things up, look back again..." when focusing the reticle. Very good advice. Easy for younger eyes. The older I get, the more I tend to give the eyes a rest for much longer when doing this. Thanks for the video.

Never read the manual?
@EdAb

@@OvertonWindex Never not been obnoxious? If manuals are so overwhelmingly effective, why are you even here? It is common for manuals to leave people more confused than they were before they read the manual. Many millions of people learn better from live, or verbal instruction than they do from reading abstract concepts in books. If this was not a universal truth good teachers, like Mark, would not need to exist. Thank you Mark!

@@EdAb go visually learn about double negatives bud. I simply asked a question you colossal idiot. Seeing as parallax is written about clearly in every manual ever... confusion on the subject is legitimately curious. Thank you for this mate. I just bought a Marlin 989 M2 .22 and the old boy that owned this clearly loved it and put a Weaver T-10 on it (both dated mid '60's - or a fraction later for the scope). It has an adjustable parallax that I've never come across before which brings me to you. Cheers for the class. You're the best.

The cleanest and sharpest method I have found for setting the focus of the reticle is to use a tiny LED light to shine into the back of the scope. This lights up the back of the reticle so you can see it clearly. Normally the Reticle is in complete darkness, and that is why it always appear black in color. Shine a small light on it and you can clearly see the reticle itself. Use a light that is small enough that it does not interfere. A bore light would work and is what I use. You don't want the light to shine in your own eyes, but instead you want it to only on the back of the reticle. shining a light on the back of the reticle will allow you to see ALL of the imperfections on the reticle itself, and will allow you to set your focus much more sharply. At that point, you can use the method that Mark has described to focus the reticle WITHOUT staring at it.

I just subscribed for answering all my questions. I'm a new shooter and realized if I moved my head the crosshair moved. I moved my head back and saw the two rings lined up and my crosshair wasn't moving anymore so I thought that's how you were supposed to look through a scope, just like compound archery (which I'm good at). Your one video totally enlightens me, thanks a lot.

Originally I was told a variable scope of up to 9 power was always parallex free and only scopes above 9 power needed a Objective lens for adjusting the parallex. I bought into it until I purchased a new Leopold Vari-X2 and started noticing the vertical line of the crosshairs would shift from side to side at certain power settings. This is when the value of having an adjustable objective lens sunk in. Now, having side adjustment in all my scopes makes adjustment of parallex easy compared to having to adjust the objective lens, which is cumbersome. Mark, your videos are a huge help to to anyone that shoots a rifle, be it long range targets or hunting. Applying your advice to their shooting will make them improve immensely. Thanks again for another informative video!

It's made a big difference. Just remember to change glasses before driving…

Super. Thanks. I'm not a new shooter and we shoot distance for fun with my friends (1,000 yds to, 1,500) here in Oklahoma. We do go further out but that's just for fun and often it's like throwing stones at the sun. We all reload, so load development is pretty good so being off are factors such as parallax. But mostly the guy behind the trigger (me) screw up the shots. Ha. Thanks again. Learn something new everyone of your videos

I really like that scope shadow tip because I splashed out for a Trijicon Credo 2-10X36 which has no parallax adjustment. For me, it seems like that should be included. This was not a small investment for me. On another note, if you feel the urge to compare factory barrels to custom barrels, I would most certainly be interested in that topic.

Mark has done several reviews on scopes but mostly high end. I understand his not promoting one product or another. He isnt being sponsored. He definitely should be. So we viewers step in and give some personal experience to those with questions like this in hopes of not stepping on his toes. Other technical questions can get personal, detailed answers with subscription. From my experience, a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24 is a good choice. Its $399 with a slightly lower magnification option(i think 4-16)for about $349. Ive used it out to 1000 yards. The glass clarity, or lack there of, becomes noticable out there. You could step down in magnification to save a few dollars if you know youll not be going beyond 500 yards. The scope is a First Focal Plane and has a nice reticle that allows plenty of holdover and ranging. For example, you can zero at 100 and use the reticle for holdover to 500 if you dont want to dial. Turrets are exposed and track well. Then you have the excellent Vortex warranty to boot. I hope this helps.

@@fljetgator1833 i got ya now. I took it as brand of scope in a cheap price range. Like i said, Mark has reviewed scopes but i dont know if he has done a technical video on "what features do you need in a scope for long range" or "what do you get for your money from low to high tier scopes." Search the videos. If you dont find that, maybe make a suggestion for a technical video covering this. Also consider going to the web store and making a donation. We pretty much get ELR tutoring here for free.

Never thought of this. Leaning by myself im missing alot of things. My parallex seems to be off. I have a swarovski z3 3-10 but doesn't have the parallex knob. Even in the instructions it says "for the scopes that have it" so unsure where to go from here. Might explain why my groups are always different. Watching again just in case. Thanks for the help

Hey Mark & Sam, was wondering is there a difference shooting from an elevated position compared to shooting on level ground in regards to scope adjustment (bullet drop).

I've recently started struggling with eliminating paralex due to my older eyes. I only have to wear reading glasses and it seems to affect my ability to properly focus the diopter. I focus the reticle but it seems that when I find the paralex free spot the image (target) appears out of focus. This happens with or without my reading glasses. I might have to go get my eyes check again. Any suggestions?
@markandsamafterwork
@markandsamafterwork 2 жыл бұрын
Can take a bit more effort with older eyes, if too hard, you can get glasses made for using with a scope, (different lens center) maybe talk to someone who uses glasses for target shooting at your local range, Cheers
