Commentary: Sean O'Sullivan, Photography: Gordon Lewis, Produced for the Institiuid Naisiunta Na Scannan Eire - The National Film Institute of Ireland. Various Irish dignitaries including O'Kelly accompanied by priests disembark from cars and walk up the steps of Dublin cathedral. Procession of religious men. Crowds stand behind railings watching the parade. C/U of a bishop climbing steps. Religious men and dignitaries leave the cathedral - they include the Archbishop of Armargh, Archbishop of Dublin and members of the government. Dignitaries stand on steps of the building. M/S of the watching crowd. Interior of building - parade of dignitaries. O'Kelly bows to various dignitaries as he steps up on to a podium. He picks up a large document and reads from it - the declaration. Panning shot of other people at the inauguration ceremony. O'Kelly sits at a desk then signs document. Document is blotted. De Valera congratulates the President. O'Kelly makes a speech in response. Everybody stands. O'Kelly and his wife lead the procession through Saint Patrick's Hall as other people present applaud them.
Exterior - O'Kelly in top hat inspects the Guard of Honour. Crowd lined street seen from a high angle. Parade of soldiers on horseback, military men on motorcycles and O'Kelly and wife in an open carriage. He takes off his hat and waves to the crowd. High angle shot of the carriage. O'Kelly and wife stand outside Stormont as mounted guards salute. O'Kelly takes his hat off as mounted guard motions with his sword. O'Kelly, the government, members of state and high ranking military officers stand in front of Stormont posing for cameras. C/Us of various members of the group. L/S of O'Kelly waving in front of large crowd of people who wave and cheer. L/S of Stormont. Camera tilts up to show flag flying. Intertitle: "The President Attends the Thanksgiving Day Service" - most of title junked due to decomposition. Rest of story missing although soundtrack exists.
Note: more information about this film from researchers would be gratefully received as 1920s Irish politics not this cataloguer's strong point!

My father was a member of the Palestrina choir that sung at his inauguration. He often spoke of it and was only 10 at the time. We are burying him tomorrow, rest your voice Dad.x

Sean T was a great man,he deserved to be President and opposed the Treaty of 1922 like Dev and a true patriot unlike Collins.
