Made that look easy enough, can you do an update to how well it held up?.

That bench will serve you well and be easy to modify to suit your needs. Nice job. D

Now build one old school - without glue or any hardware.

Nice job. You took out a few features that would have helped with the strength (the additional braces), and a few that would have made this bench more useful for woodworking (Top flush with the apron, and counter-sunk bolts, both which allow you to clamp work to the front of the bench). But your changes also make it more of a functional table with space underneath.

I think you’ll need to brace along the length of the bench.

That's not a real "English bench", it looks like one to the untrained eye. But an English bench's top, doesn't overhang along the sides. The middle of the top should be a thinner plank, which forms a trough (to stop tools rolling off). You can see a longer construction video on Rex Kruger's channel. They should also have a wooden jawed vise. The school that I went to, had a woodwork class full of them in the early 80's. All the frame work here looks fine, it's the top that's wrong.

Not to be confused with Rex's "testing the English bench" video.

Not bad, but the apron is supposed to be flush with the bench top
@mijicmugendo3 жыл бұрын
Not on this type. Yes on the Nicholson bench
@giovannisouthey72503 жыл бұрын
Apron should be flush for vice to function properly, even on this style of bench
@georgeb.wolffsohn303 жыл бұрын
@@mijicmugendo if it's not flush you lose the ability to use the apron as a clamping surface
@mijicmugendo3 жыл бұрын
@@georgeb.wolffsohn30 And that is why the Nicholson bench was possibly invented. I've see dozen like this for years.

How is it using the bench? Paul seller's look more solid... but harder to build.

It was similar to ending a pathetic fireworks display with a paper bag popped between the palms . Stairway to nowhere would have been a more suitable soundtrack.

It is a good simple bench that is not some fancy piece of furniture showing off skills.
