In this video series, I'm comparing two chairlifts that are 10m, but over three decades apart. They are located at Lauchernalp and the ski domain's deputy technical manager dedicated an entire day to show me around, let me film everywhere and explain each of the ropeways in great detail.
In this part:
00:00 Introduction
00:30 Control systems - the mechanical brain
08:01 The service track - dealing with broken chairs
08:52 Facts about the rope (cable)
10:17 Garaging
13:10 Acknowledgements

These are some of the best videos I've ever seen on KZfaq. Spent so many hours sitting on chairlifts guessing how the mechanisms worked...

Maybe looking at some aerial tramways could also be interesting for a future video. I especially find the ones interesting where the two cabins are able to move independently, such as the "Urdenbahn" between Arosa and Lenzerheide. There, the cabin going in one direction usually does not start moving at the same time as the other one and in the summer they even only run one side of the lift at once. Have often wondered how this is done, as the two sides are normally linked as a single "loop" of rope.

Not overdone! Perfect actually. I must now go back and give a thumbs up on the first two parts of this video. Thanks again. P.S. I love the "real audio" parts like the relay's etc.

I've already sent a letter to a ropeway manifacturer, but haven't got a reply. I guess I'd need someone knowing someone to be able to reach an engineer

@@sandro-here I am sure if you come to one of the factories someone will help, many have tours for clients. The way to get some insight is for sure through a ski resort. I think Bartholet might be a little shy at the moment after being just bought by a competitor. Maybe ask at one of the big 2 manufacturers first.

@@manuelratschiller5754 Interesting! I've never thought of it this way. You're right, I should try that. Currently I have two other videos in the pipeline, but it's great for the backlog.

Thank you! I do these in my free time, so depending on my workload output varies. I have a new video in the works, it will take a lot of more effort though, so I expect it to air somewhere until the end of the year. Hmm I don't have a tip box at the moment, thanks for the idea. I'll look into it.

Always imagine how they work while you are sitting in an lift and especially the old technology where you can smell the oil :). maybe one day you can do a series on one of the constructions of a new lift. like 1 hour episodes with a little too much information about everything. (maybe @doppelmayer will sponsor you lol)

Awesome video!! For the pulse counting part where the motors adjust their speed so that it matches the reference pulse number, do you know if 1 pulse is equivalent to 1 PLC cycle? So the control systems would be running at around 25Hz which sounds very low but I have no clue :)

You said that Americans would call the rope a cable; I think that is general for English-speakers. However there are differences between what Americans and other English speakers say, but that's outside the scope of this video (think of "aerial tramway", cable car and so on)
