In this video I cover what I keep inside my field craft kit and why field craft is so important. If you haven’t seen my video on infantryman tools and water considerations, please watch those as well! Enjoy! And stay tuned!

Regarding the fishing line, check out braided fishing line. Often it comes in green, and it's much stronger relative to it's size when compared to mono line. Enjoyed the video!

Tahnk you very much for sharing! In germany we call this stuff "Pi Päckchen". It is always interesting to see what other Grunts use. One thing most of the german soldiers carry is the infamous "Flöfffel" it is the issued Mess Spoon with a with DuctTape attached BIC Lighter. Since in our MREs we have no Spoons this comes in very handy since you always have the spoon and the lighter. I am looking forward to learn new things. Cheers from germany!

interesting the similarities between this kit and the one I built for forestry. One thing I've learned; hockey tape won't freeze and come undone

Combat engineer here, I recommend if you have time to use the MRE cardboard inserts and wrap them with your duct tape. It’s much easier to carry flat packs than rolls of tape. I also highly recommend at least two rolls of electrical tape. If you’re doing urban demolitions it’s almost a must to have either a good roll of duct tape (like gorilla brand) or double sided tape (again, gorilla brand has an excellent product) for your det-lins, GP’s, and ladder charges. If you get issued Breacher’s tape, cool good for you but you almost never ever are given it. I’m also a fan of wrapping duct tape around my lighter, I carry it for EDC and in the field. Always have plenty of duct tape! I really enjoy keeping extra bungee cords around. I usually store them wrapped around the admin pouch on my assault pack, around my pack frame, or on my plate carrier. They can be helpful for weapons retention where you’re on ladders, working with your hands, handling detainees, etc. Super helpful. I’m also a big fan of carrying extras of the generic little boot bands and (sometimes) pruning shears to enhance camouflage. Between bungee cords and the boot bands (any elastic bands of that size work) you can create improvised ghillie suits, camouflage your weapon, etc. All depends on the tasking. Another thing with the “field cammies” is that they’re usually faded to hell and reduces the effectiveness of camouflage. In training I admit I bring my worst cammies. Playing with concertina wire and conducting fire and movement means I tear through cammies constantly. So I bring my field cammies, destroy them, and it prevents me from catching flak for poor uniforms in garrison. It’s a bit hypocritical of me, but I do agree with you entirely. Canvas needles and a thimble are super helpful! Issued gear is always failing in the most fantastic ways. Shoe goo is also great to carry, I’ve seen many a boot sold come detached while on range or conducting movement. You can also reinforce seams or stitching by applying some shoe goo (or E6000 if you know where to get it, it’s my preferred flexible glue)

I love to reminisce watching these videos. My old man was a grunt 2/4 and 1/7 1962-1966 and I was 2/3 and 2/4 1989 to 1995. I carried a lot of this stuff!

something wicked I picked up from a Garand Thumb video where he had his machinegunner buddy on; those little Mio drink mix squirt bottles. You can fill one with CLP. For my application; I use it on my blades and axe to clean off bush gunk and prevent rust. Very handy and just the smallest drop can coat a large surface

You should look into a Sunflair Water Pasteurization Indicator. It allows you to know when a dirty bag of water is sterilized from being in the bright sun. It’s not an ideal method but as a tertiary option I enjoy it.

Nice kit. Until recently I never knew there was different kinds of paracord. There’s a Type IV that has 11 inner strands instead of 7. Same size, looks the same, negligible difference in weight and 50% stronger. I was in the Army a million years ago, crew on a 13 ton tracked vehicle gun system. Peacetime but we would spend up to a month in the desert on training exercises so if you didn’t bring it, you did without. People would laugh at what I would bring, until THEY needed it, the sewing kit in particular 😂😂. Nothing wrong with knowing how to fix your stuff!

@27:00 You're talking about maintaining clothing. In any environment, your clothing is your first line of shelter. Everyone tends to think of their tent/tarp/bivvy/whatever as "shelter", and clothing as a completely separate thing. I've been watching your content for the last hour or so. Good stuff and subscribed. Edit: I forgot... I'm not sure what you're using for tinder, but a few pieces of char cloth make it fairly easy to get a fire started with a ferro rod. Weighs almost nothing

With prickly pears, the needles also include very fine ones that get everywhere like fiberglass. I recommend burning them off, so another use for fire in the desert. like don't even touch them until you've burnt off the hairs, then you can cut them open to get the insides like a banana peel.

Fishing line is underrated.. I’d suggest adding a thimble to save your fingers when sewing but worst case you can wrap your finger in tape and get by all the same.. I like the spider line 100lb line myself it’s more or less the same size as most others tests and way stronger

I use the advanced new 7 kit in a lot of stuff over the 5.. has more room inside the bag for added items not included with the kit I don’t more basic and necessary. You’re spot on for why it’s not a big thing anymore.. for 20 years everything has been vehicle based oops 4 mags no water no sustainment and what’s worse no skills to use gear cause of supply and resupply and having kits in vehicles immediately assessable. Issue is all the brass now has only been around during these times.. anyone and everyone who knows the value of these older styles of fighting and having to carry all your own supply is retired or been forced out for political reasons.. With what happening in Ukraine we are going to see a return to the old style setups with 12 mag not 8 as a basic load.. and phasing out of plate carriers for basic infantry.. Once again similar to your EE kit there is again no wire! Wire is one of the most basic items for field craft and survival.. I do love your continued use of electrical tape though.. I have always preferred it over duct tape for general use cause it will stretch a little wo breaking.. and doesn’t leave residue behind.. highly underrated for general tasked and utility.. the old style z fold map bags will work very well for water use fyi.. they won’t break down from being folded cause they are a composite type plastic not regular like a ziplock. Much more durable.. even more so then most actual water types bags which will crack and split.. Small bungees are very underrated for keeping shit from flapping around when putting packs on packs on packs lol.. I carry a couple but I prefer shock cord.. same use but more versatile and takes up less space.. Regular gel superglue is better then liquid skin.. ers use basically a chemical free version for lights stitches.. the gel form is easier to use for bad cuts not requiring a tq but very bad still.. the chemicals also sterilize the wound when used.. i drys and cracks off every couple days and has to be reapplied. You can also for a bleed so bad you can’t wait for the proper drying time super glue will harden faster when you introduce it to water.. Multi use item.. can glue crap back together for repairs and is a mainstay for me in any medical kit.. Oh how you get to the crazy glue lol.. I go with the gel not the regular tykes it’s way easier to use..

Hey bro, I actually just came across your channel today and I'm digging it. Try #36 bankline as your expendable cordage. Just grab a 100' hank and see how you like it compared to or paired with paracord. Just a thought. Appreciate your service. Cheers brother. 🍻
