What sets the Lilium Jet apart from its competitors its simply its use of ducted fans, and thus the removal of exposed rotors. In truth, there is a bit of compromise in this design appose to the use of larger exposed rotors. Larger rotors generate more lift, and thus can carry heavier payloads. That said The brilliance in Liliums design sees to generation of lift stemming from multiple devices. Direct and indirect lift, generated directly from its 32 rotors, as well as the increased speed of wind generated by those rotors atop its wings surfaces. Conventional lift. One source of thrust, two means of lift. More over are the many benefits that comes with numerous smaller fans. And that speed of operation. Lilium engines can spool up to higher levels of speed almost instantaneously meaning that the aircraft and its vectored thrust can maneuver far faster, adapt to any condition far quicker than other evtol design layouts. it means that its avionics could make it possible to stabilize the aircraft flight. much like a car with adaptive magnetic ride suspension can adapt to bumps and undulations in the road far better than a normal suspension setup, in the case of an emergency and the loss of engines, its operational engine can immediately adapt to the situation. And it must be said. Evtol aircraft will fly at the same altitudes as other light aircraft. And as such must contend with the hazards of lower level flight, From strong weather events, to the possibility of collision with external objects. Bird strike, drones, balloons you name it. having that additional redundancy is a great benefit.

It's a great idea for a lightweight, unmanned sUAS but a lethal combination for passenger flight. Helicopters have the failsafe of autorotation if power is lost and planes potentially can glide to a safe landing. Turn the engines off this craft and it will fall like a rock

Disagree. It's got fixed wings that will enable a better glide ratio and vertical speed than an auto-rotating helicopter. Additionally, there is a BRS system in one in a billion chance everything fails. A tiny, dedicated capacitor bank could also be used in an emergency landing for a final burst of power allowing for a soft touchdown. The Lilium Jet will absolutely be safer than any helicopter, use zero fuel, produce no fumes or pollution, make little noise, require far less maintenance and pilot training/skill while still being able to operate in the same spaces and reopening helipads that were closed due to noise.

500 Wh/L batteries are available today from Amprius. Better will come, but really good and usable is available now! Of all the eVTOLs on the market, the Lilium Jet is the only one I can see actually getting widespread customer acceptance as having 6, 8, 10+ exposed propellers adorning the airframe is both unattractive and unappealing. There's a reason large turboprop airliners have fallen out of fashion: Passengers prefer Jets. Also, the increased energy use in the 10 sec. vertical to horizontal transition over exposed props is made up for in increased cruise efficiency and the ability to glide in case of complete system failure. There's also the BRS system as an additional emergency option.

Lilium know what they know and do what they can do. Haters are gonna hate, but who cares what they think? Lots of doubters proven wrong over the years. 1901: The U.S. Navy called flight a “vain fantasy”. George W. Melville, Engineer-in-Chief of the U.S. Navy, wrote a scathing article about the pursuit of manned flight. Wilbur Wright said "I confess that in 1901, I said to my brother Orville that man would not fly for 50 years." 1903, The New York Times predicted manned flight would take between 1 and 10 million years to achieve, in an article titled “Flying Machines Which Do Not Fly.” Lets see who is laughing in 2025

Think they are onto something here. As someone else stated a range extender motor would help but that will come. Get it working properly first then look at tweaking it later.

Why not just use a electrified small helicopter? Did Lilium fly with even one person on board or at max. gross weight? Did it ever fly in windy and gusty conditions?

Seems like a lightweight range extender should solve a lot of the range problems. May not be fully electric but that will come, it's more important to get it adopted and working first

It's way too highly priced at $10 million. A 7-seater helicopter may have lower fuel and operational cost and can be bought for just about $2 million.

This thing is laughable. None will get past a prototype. No electric plane is possible as long as battery tech is stuck in the Lith-Ion stage. Maybe one can be made with solid state batteries, but even then the lack of range will make it inviable.

You're a simpleton. It's clearing every metric required for FAA & European verifications and will be flight approved soon. It's also the only eVTOL that scales up in size & utility. Ya got to get a clue

@@EarthCreature. You missed my point. I do not question if it can be ceritifed for flight. I question the lack of range and the lack of practicality of it. No aircraft can be pure electric right now because battery tech is not there yet.

what's laughable is you can't name one eVTOL concept that is ahead of Lilium. That's because they're the leaders in it and continue to out perform the vaporware concept companies like Joby.... which currently still crashes

The battery is more than capable and was recently verified. You got to think before you speak, online especially. It's a billboard for your mental faculties. Besides, there's plenty of options from skeleton batteries to graphene batteries being produced so you should get your head out of the failed hedge funder play book and celebrate Lilium for leading the way fella. The #1 jet companies already publicly nodded MOU for future purchase. Just think, that's all
