Shaq is right that he was a star from the beginning, but Charles is right that he "wasn't Shaq" immediately, and it took a year or two for him to become the dominant player he was.

Shaq had great numbers his rookie season, but he didn't dominate like he says he did. He struggled a lot with decision making, he wasn't a good passer from the post as he became after 95season, and he didn't dominate other players from the post because at that point he wasn't LA Shaq or 95-96 Shaq who at that point was bigger and heavier, instead he settled more on hooks and his own fadeaway, when he dunked on other people it was usually a break down by the defence by the guards who would pass him in an open space. Lastly, Chuck is right on Wemby it has only been one week and Wemby needs more time.

Shaq's ego is too big to actually listen to Barkley's words. It makes for great TV though. Love the crew. Barkley was talking about 18/19 year olds straight out of high school or 1 year removed. TMac struggled, Kobe struggled, KG struggled. All these guys took a year or two to get the hang of it and that's Chuck's point about Wemby. LeBron is the only 18 year old straight out of school that was great day 1. Most kids need a year or two in the league. Shaq was absolutely dominant from day 1 but he was also a 3 year college player and 21/22 years old. Shaq isn't part of the group Chuck is describing

Once that wears off, he would relax a little bit more just like Kenny said, and all of this is new to him, I think once he run through playing against all his people and all the superstars the second time he meet them we will see a different player I would be so nervous seeing all my idols and be like I’m actually guarding kid Steph labro is n and on

I disagree. Wenbanyama’s strengths have always been that he plays like a guard but he’s 7’4. So saying he needs to play closer to the basket and be stronger works… if he’s a normal center. But he’s not a normal center and shouldn’t be changed into one to fit the nba’s narrative. What makes him special is that he has insane handles and shoots spot up threes

@GoochMuncher6969 7 ай бұрын
Yeah I think he would really benefit from having a traditional center at the 5, so he can roam in a 4 spot, his range is ridiculous and it would preserve his body, even if he is able to bulk up it’s gonna take a few years

he can add strength without adding too much weight. Just enough that he won’t be pushed out when he post up. KD in the Sonics was similarly skinny but once he added strength the mid range really open up for him. Wemby should look to do the same. He don’t have to add strength to backdown defenders, just enough that he can hold his ground.

Exactly! A 7'4 playing like a guard is what makes him an *Alien* 👽

This. US basketball back then would have never produced someone like Dirk e.g. They would have tried to make him a classic PF/C and he would have never made the NBA. Wemby will be different and he'll be fine. I'd try to put someone like Andre Drummond next to him and let him be himself.
