Join the concrete crew as we begin work on a large driveway, patio, and front walk. The inspector showed up and successfully made me mad but other than that we had some unexpected GOOD weather for a change. We ended up pouring the patio and front walk and are ready to pour the driveway.

Im a residential building inspector in my hometown. The number one issue that I have seen from other jurisdictions or the inspectors before me is misunderstanding the difference between interpretation and ignorance when it comes to a trade, the building codes and the laws of engineering. Small minded people are given so much authority that any push back triggers them spewing nonsense to win an argument rather than researching, reinforcing, and planning a corrective action that better suits the project manager, their subs and the local jurisdiction.

Ah, the classic know-it-all inspector sharing their wisdom of all those 0 years of practical experience... Should be a requirement you have previously worked in the field before becoming an inspector. So many do not and it shows by their remarks. It drives all of us nuts, it's no difference in any other construction field.

Where in Jersey? I'm also a plumber in Jersey but mostly work up North (Chester, Mendham, Long Valley, AKA where the big money is). I know most of the inspectors in this area and they're really good and do know what they're doing. My old boss is currently an inspector in Sussex County, he was a 20 year vet in the plumbing business so he knows his stuff front to back, zero tolerance for hack work so he's always telling me stories of jobs he failed and trust me, these hacks deserve it. I also work a lot in the Flemington area and those guys are mostly good over there. If these guys call you out on something, it's almost surely you did actually do something wrong and they're not just trying to give you a hard time for the sake of it like many other inspectors do. Central and South Jersey is where all the bad inspectors are from my experience. Those are also the areas where I try not to work in if I can help it.

I'm going to weigh in here. My feeling for some time is that I'd find a different dealer even if it meant switching to another brand. Notice the New Holland. Bobcat sees him coming. Ryan should find a good hydraulic shop where he can get hoses and such. Maybe find a good field mechanic with a service truck. It costs a lot to have a machine down. I'm not sure what engine the tandem has. If it's a DT 466, I don't recall injectors are that big a deal. Other U-tubers back there seem to have great luck with Area Diesel Service on parts and rebuilds.

You kept as cool as you could under the circumstances definitely! Someone telling you your work is going to be worthless is hard to keep your composure like that. Always respect how you deal with every situation under control. A lot of times I would definitely do more than what you normally do. Your work is better than any other concrete work that I’ve ever seen! (I’m from Wyoming though just for context haha.)

Sounds like it might be your Oil pressure sensor malfunctioning. You can hook up a manual gauge to check and see if you have good oil pressure. If it’s good then you might need to replace the sensor. Depending on your model the sensor might be near the oil filter.

The inspector has a point! New construction, the dirt will settle under the crete and the crete will have nothing under it but air. Lots of rebar to keep it from breaking off. Hes absolutely correct in his analysis, but it's not his place to tell the homeowner (not) to pour!
@sku32956

Ryan is aware of how concrete behaves on new construction on grades etc.. ,when following the proper pouring methods i.e compacting the gravel ,rebar, strong concrete that was poured right it will stay strong when the ground settles ..@@stevehamman4465

Pro tip, you don’t need primer. Plumbing code requires it but the manufacturer says you don’t need it. If you did, use clear. I don’t use any purple primer on pipe that’s visible in or around a house. I’m finish work some plumbers use clear primer others just use glue

Ryan, you should consider switching to clear primer for gutters. You don’t need purple as purple is for inspectors to check the plumbing. Since downspouts aren’t typically tied into a septic or sewer system, you aren’t going to have them inspected. I switched to clear glue and primer for downspouts and its so much cleaner. You also don’t need to slob it on. Its not a pressurized system so minimal glue is necessary. I strictly use the thinner wall “sewer” pipe as its cheaper and does just as well. I also use the matching sewer fittings and it’s significantly cheaper as well. Never had a call back since I switched to it.
@nicpedia2432
@nicpedia2432 6 ай бұрын
Clear primer, sure that is a good idea. Switching to thin wall sewer pipe though especially in cases where it's exposed to the elements from the metal gutter to the point it is barely below grade and being plate-packed is a pathetic swap to save $20 in materials that you can just be charging the customer 1:1 anyway and save a lot of future headache by not cheeping out. In five years that sewer pipe that is going from gutter to your elbow will get shattered by a snowblower or careless snow shovel if someone hits it. Sunlight makes it quite brittle.
