We are back with a new episode recorded in Nusfjord, located in the beautiful Lofoten islands in northern Norway! This week, we talk about the inspiration behind one of our most iconic designs, which was designed during our first trip to Lofoten back in 2007. We've also created a hat from this design and made a pattern for it available. The technique is super simple and easily adds some texture and interest to the colourwork.
Enjoy!

Gentleman: how are you going to top this awesome setting when you get back!? Lol. Fascinated, watching the birds flying outside the window, your sitting together facing each other in conversation, the designs, the tutorials, the shopping et al! Wishing you all the happiness as you continue your working holiday. Thanks for taking all of us along. PS. You are getting to the 100K mark - well done! 🥰

"admit it, we're lazy" "well, sometimes we're looking for tomorrow's vintage sweaters"😂 jokes aside I supported a fellow knitter by buying socks from her even though I knit plenty of socks (but somehow they always end up on someone else's feet😁). If you can, help your friends and small businesses in these rough times. fantastic video again, and shout-out to Erik because the lights in this video are incredible!✨

I had also read that it was/is a pattern from the Faroe Islands. My father had one of the black and white sweaters that he always wore skiing, and the I “stole” it as a teenager and wore it skiing as well. I was obsessed with that sweater, I think because it was so very cozy, basically double knit and the rustic wool had slightly felted over the years. I wish I still had it but sadly I got rid of it many years ago. This one had more of a boat neck, like the old Skyr sweaters.

You are absolutely right Carlos, about those sweaters needing to be elevated! What a statement to say they smell of cow dung!!!! That made me angry at first. But then, one must understand, that those comments come from folks which are triggered by this kind of sweater and condintioned to associate it with hard work and smell of stables. It is a good thing, that you can make these farmers and simple folk understand, that these trusty companions of their every day work life are actually their "friends", that they kept them warm during cold days and hard work, that they were durable and practical as well as beautiful. You wouldn`t hurt an old friend like that, would you? This trusty old "friend" needs a place of honor in the hearts of people. Huggs from Germany.

I LOVE this sweater!! I first saw it and fell in love with it on Arne & Carlos’s video of making the Christmas star decoration ‘sit and knit for a bit with Arne & Carlos: first advent special’. It looks so flattering on Carlos, it beautiful! So it’s funny when he was talking about the reaction from other Norwegians about that model☺ but of course I’m not from norway so I don’t have the association thankfully😁. And I just searched the design they created based on this one and it’s also beautiful, these along with the ‘Vegard’ sweater & ‘Heine’ hat! and the “Jens’ and ‘Vidar’ sweaters, some of the best patterns ever!❤

Arne and Carlos, My most recent knitting project involved first mastering the technique of double knitting, then deciding on an interesting piece to double knit. I chose to use one of your Quarantine KAL patch charts from the spring as the focal point of my piece. I chose the chart you designed representing your house. The concept I came up with is a wall hanging for my kitchen, about 10" X 16". The top and bottom sections of the piece are worked in several rows of Breton stripes, with the middle of the piece being the house. Working the Breton stripes for several rows before tackling the house chart gave me a chance to get comfortable with the double knitting technique. The two colors I chose are khaki and white. Your video on double knitting gave me the inspiration to try the technique, as well as some tips to help me through the project.

I want to try knitting the black with white hat, although I will use navy blue instead of black. I'm just starting to practice knitting the Norwegian way but have have not tried to purl yet. Arne, you have to bring tha yarn forward between the needles to the front of the work before throwing a purl stitch then bring the yarn to the back again before making a knit stitch. That is why "throwing" takes so much longer than "picking." Ribbing takes forever when throwing! Thanks Carlos and Arne.

So lovely to see you both so relaxed! Probably because Erik was there and you didn't need to worry about the filming. Gorgeous hats and sweaters! I will give a try to knit the hat, but I readily admit to being lazy and doubt I would ever knit a sweater. Much easier to buy beautiful sweaters second hand! I look forward to your next episode.

I love the Reine hat design! Because of your podcast I've decided that as soon as I'm finished the garment on my needles my next project will be a Norwegian stranded colour-work project AND I'm going to knit it entirely in the Norwegian way, according to your tutorials. I normally throw or flick so this is new territory for me. I'm super attracted to the Northern Lights cushion designs, the Reine hat and the ODA Colouring mittens and am just trying to decide which would be the best one to try as my first ever Norwegian colourwork AND knitting technique project.

@@ARNECARLOS Indeed! I have to live my gramma years through my friend's grandson until my son makes me a gramma. I could not find pairfect in stores around me so I ordered 4 skeins online from Laughing Hens in the UK and it's here!! Never made socks so cross your fingers that I get them done for Christmas. :)
