Andrea Botez, younger of the two Botez sisters, has a very interesting story. She is rated USCF 2000 and was studying in high school. She decided to drop out of high school and join her sister Alexandra so that they could create content together. Just a few days ago they hit 1 million subscribers on Twitch and their KZfaq channel also has over 600k subscribers. IM Sagar Shah speaks to Andrea about her journey into the world of content creation and how she and her sister have managed to keep coming up with new ideas to keep popularizing chess!

Andrea has a lot of love and is very sincere in my opinion. She clearly absolutely adores her sister for example and she wants to continue her sister's good work. She might be highly volatile on stream but the fact that she is trying to be sincere and more formal in situations like these doesn't surprise me one bit. Maybe she doesn't come off as classy as many of the others in the chess community but its why people love her and why the Botez fanbase has exploded even more,she is very entertaining for casuals and best of all,unpredictable,so she can give genuine laughs for the viewers.

She seems kind and genuine when she streams too, both of the sisters do. I've never felt either of them "don't come off well", quite the contrary: they both come off as multi-dimensional people, and Andrea is only 19 years old, she has things way more together than I did at that age, or most people I know. (But I agree, this is a great interview!).

It's very nice that people are beginning to notice how well-spoken, intelligent, and sincere Andrea Botez is here, but it was very clear almost two years ago that Andrea is a remarkable person, and I have long predicted that the Botez Sisters shall have the world at their fingertips. I may not live long enough to see it happen, as I am in my seventh decade, but I'm confident these ladies have a bright future ahead of them, and nothing should prevent them from becoming enormously successful. Andrea's wit, charm, intelligence, and ability to engage has been there all along, and I do believe that Alexandra has both nurtured and developed this. These women will go on to accomplish remarkable things, and it's a pleasure just to witness it. 💙 💛 💖 - j q t -

Sagar sir, one thing i wanted to put you to notice is that always your recordings have this kind of muffled sound from right side of the headphones, if you are using some kind of microphone for audio, it might be a mono microphone, so that might be the issue, but if you're recording the audio from the phone only then it might be a issue due to hand covering one of the mic area in phone, or maybe its just a editing issue, i can't really pin point the cause of it, it just eerily disturbs the experience...just a feedback for you if it might help you in some way

I have mentioned or suggested on a few occasions where Netflix would make for a awesome platform for a documentary sort of series with the Women of Chess, especially with how well the Queen’s Gambit did for chess in general. I sort of see it with no particular order, yet Episode 1 could be ‘Meet the Botez Sisters; Episode 2 Meet Irina Krush and so on. Of course there are many names and stories to mention with the Polgar sisters, Phiona Mutesi, Carissa Yip, etc. My old chess coach is WFM Maria Leks (Poland) and she is awesome to work with as well.

I wish the Botez’s were around when I was growing up and getting interested in chess. When I was young I went to several chess clubs but never went back, they were unwelcoming, hostile places. Chess needs to be taken out of the hands of such people. The Botez’s and many like them have grown up playing and learning chess on the internet, the new generation is much more sociable than chess players have traditionally been. I just wish I was younger and could’ve been part of this social revolution in chess. Good time are ahead.

@jamesevans8845

She doesn't really play a character she just amplifies that side of her personality for our entertainment and suppresses it to seem normal to others because making a good impression to other audiences and fanbases I.e Chessbase India's viewers is important to growing her channel and selling herself, although how she acts on stream isn't how she is 100% of the time. It's not as if she's created a character completely unlike herself which she jumps into to fake her way to the top, it's more likely her just showing her crazier and more fun side as she's most comfortable on her own stream in comparison to others.
