Remember the new lineup of Tiger Lake processors Intel made available for the new laptops, well, we finally get the taste of it through ASUS Zenbook 14 rocking the new 11th Generation Intel Core i7-1165G7. While it is a marginal specs refresh, it does bring a lot of things to the table but with certain caveats.

Can the tdp set by oem changed? Can it be fixed higher or lower than done by oem? And how does power options in Windows help in this matter?

You didnt mention the 10710U, which features lower single core performance but has 2 additional cores in total (6c v 4c), making me wonder if it would be wise to acquire over the 1165G7. What is more important for Google Chrome, single core performance or multicore?

We can't comment on the 10710U because 1. The comparison with these processors in this video wouldn't be right due to the differences. 2. We have not received a laptop from ASUS or any other vendors running that processor up until now.

How to know before buying which laptop has which tdp if the tdp set cannot be changed?

Look for reviews, I recommend notebookcheck . com . They test sustained tdp under load, for zenbook 14 it's about 20 watts.

I need your advice I am attending college for my bachelor's degree For Computer and Information Science. light programming will be involved. I was thinking about 3 laptops, all 17 inch. 1. HP 17.3 inch laptop with Intel core i5-1135G7, 12GB Ram, 512GB SSD and integrated Intel Xe Graphics for $630. 2. HP Envy 17.3 Touch-Screen laptop with Intel Core i7-1165G7, 12GB RAM, 512 SSD + 32GB Intel Optane with intel integrated Xe graphics for $1073 3. Dell Inspiron 7000 2-in-1 17" QHD (2560x1600 resolution) touch screen laptop with Intel Core i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD + 32GB Intel Optane with Nvidia GeForce MX350 for $1241.99. Keep in mind that the RAM on the Dell laptop is soldered to the motherboard, so is non upgradeable. The HP laptops more memory can be added later. Is it worth it to spend the extra money or should I just go with the cheapest one for $630?

This CPU is only 1.13x the performance of a Sandy Bridge i7 2600. Sure... it's a 95w CPU vs a 28 watt, but the 9 generations between should more than make up for that. And the i7 2600 (from 2011) maxes out at 3.8GHz vs 4.7GHz for the 1165G7.

the 1165G has 50% better single core performance and 26% better quad core performance as the i7 2600 So i dont know where you get that 1.13x from
