TISS is a weekly podcast where Aadar, Neville, Kautuk and Varun discuss random, fun, stupid, pointless, weird, shocking "facts" they find on the internet. So come learn with them...or something like that. In this episode, the boys talk to us about Climate Change!
#BiodiversityByTheBay is an ongoing digital festival of the arts by DeadAnt and Ministry of Mumbai’s Magic that celebrates the biodiversity of the city through comedy, music and design.
Mumbai stands at a critical point in its history. We request you to protect the rich biodiversity of the city. Six demands that will safeguard our rich ecosystems and unique biodiversity from the threat of unsustainable planning and rapidly growing emissions.
Please sign the letter addressed to Mr. Aadtiya Thackeray and have your voice heard here: bit.ly/2G3NZsC

"We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails. And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!" - George Carlin (1992)

Unfortunately, times have changed in a big way since Mr. Carlin's days in 1992. Today, if we do not all actively contribute in reducing our individual carbon footprints and conserving our natural environments, the planet is well and truly screwed.

Studying in New Zealand to become an environmental sustainability consultant, i would love to have a conversation with you about all of these issues discussed. I absolutely love the podcast and have been following it for a while. Though you discussed a lot of important issues, i believe that because of the outreach you have, maybe i can deliver some facts and opinions that might help make a difference on your platform, maybe through a follow up podcast. Please like so Varun and team can see this.

As a fan of this show I'd like to give some constructive criticism that this episode felt very chaotic, Ideas weren't completed everyone was speaking over each other. I wasn't able to enjoy the podcast as much as I usually do. Some of it also lies in the fact that the topic chosen was very heavy & if the intent was to have a serious conversation then it's a decent start, but then too I would say maybe let people finish their thoughts & then react on them. This just seemed like 4 guys trying to put forth their points. Love you guys Dil se.. Eagerly waiting for the next episode. :D

The biggest contributors to climate change are not the personal acts. It's true that we have a responsibility to conserve energy and be sustainable. But the actual culprits are corporations and companies. PS: finally the podcast talking about a topic that I have some expertise in.

Extremely happy that you guys talked about wildlife crime, biodiversity loss, habitat fragmentation and climate change. I'm getting a PhD and studying all of these topics from a social science approach. It's incredibly difficult for the common man to connect the dots between these issues but wildlife crime is very much connected to climate change. So is biodiversity loss. How do we effectively communicate these problems so people no longer consider them "environmental" issues (disconnected from their own health), but actually think of them as socio-environmental problems? That's what I work on. There's SO much to unpack about what you all said! For e.g., "people aren't always thinking about the environment" - that's true. But we ARE thinking about ourselves. And there isn't a SINGLE "environmental" issue that's not a human issue as well. Pollution se leke environmental justice tak, har problem HUMARI hai. The way Tanmay has been bringing financial experts and talking about money management, I wish popular young communicators like y'all brought on experts and used humor to effectively communicate and unpack the issues you raised in this episode. More power to you! Loved this!

56 year old "uncle" here. Thanks for doing this episode. It actually should be seen by more of my generation because they grew up in a time when this was not an existential threat, your generation and younger are more aware of it. When I grew up and lived in Bombay in the 70s and 80s, flooding on the railway tracks specially and in the city in general was a rare occurrence. Nowadays it seems to happen with alarming frequency, with water reaching the platform level, when i saw the video of the fish on the swimming at the station it was insane. For the non-believers, I love the Neil de Grasse Tyson quote, "The good thing about science is that it's true whether you believe it or not"

When you’ll were saying that you can’t really see the effects of climate change first hand-which is true in a country like india-but you can definitely tell that something’s amiss when you live in higher latitudes .. closer to the poles. And it’s scary! Every year my heart sinks more and more when there are forest fires or it’s snowing for days on end in places where it shouldn’t.. it’s truly scary! To be completely honest, the idea that we are all equally responsible for climate change is bogus. 100 multinationals are responsible for 71% of climate change. So the idea that we caused climate change by eating meat, or flying is bullshit. It's a way to make us not hold those who are actually responsible accountable. By all means we must strive to live greener lives, but we should also hold organisations responsible. A good political solution is to write to the environment and development ministries, and ask them to adhere to the Paris agreement and IPCC report, to join the global climate strikes. Global climate strike has a website with a lot of resources on how you can take individual and community action

Right, but the thing is that those multinationals exist with that sort of socio-economic leverage BECAUSE we buy their products. We criticise Bezos for being a richass bastard but the fact is that the vast majority of us still use PrimeVideo, still buy stuff from Amazon, because convenience trumps principles.

@@asherkaul1534 agreed. Buts it's not easy for everyone to buy only sustainable products, they aren't particularly cost effective either. It is the government's responsibility to not let big multinationals exploit the environment for their own benefits. Unfortunately all the governments care about is development, even if it irrevocably fucks up the planey

A Sustainable lifestyle is not expensive, it is actually cheapest, something that people don't realise. Not over- buying, reusing, recycling, upcycling, composting, using public transport/cycling/carpooling, reducing meat consumption, not buying from fast fashion brands like H&M and Zara, reducing plastic usage- cloth bags, not wasting water, food and electricity, having only one child, etc. I know a person who is not having children to reduce his impact on planet. I stopped eating meat to reduce my carbon footprint. You don't have to buy an INR 20000 organic cotton/hemp/jute shirt to be Sustainable. You can do simple things to do a lot for our planet. And as you mentioned that corporates are responsible for most emissions but the founders and management are also us, they are not someone else, companies are built and formed by me & you. There are people who apply for a job only if the company has Sustainability initiatives. Consumers are also becoming aware and choosing not to buy from brands if they are not eco conscious which has caused a side effect- greenwashing. Now, the consumer has to increase their awareness and ask for Sustainability performance of a company- audited Sustainability reports. There is a great power in stakeholder voices and that's where we can contribute.

I live in Alberta and we’ve got beautiful lakes and we go fishing a couple times a year. What Neville didn’t mention is that there’s HUGE fines (in the hundreds or thousands of dollars) for not obeying fishing laws.

Nice episode, really need artists and creators to spread the awareness. It speaks a lot about our society when people like hindustani bhau are more popular than Afroz shah. Politicians can also do something about this but this won't divide people so I guess that's not happening.

It's more about saving humans than saving earth. Because if there will be unbalance, Nature will regain itself in a way that no one can imagine.
