Trixie & Katya

Жыл бұрын

On the brutal, kill-or-be-killed plains of the Serengeti, power is determined by sheer brute strength. It is measured by the breadth of one's chest, the size of one's claws, and the length of one's incisors. But in the stiflingly hot concrete jungle of Los Angeles, power is determined by the ability to sit down in very comfortable chairs, hold microphones, and talk about life's daily minutiae for approximately 45 to 60 minutes while glorious air conditioning washes over you like a cool salve for all that ails you. In this shockingly fearsome podcast arena, none are more dangerous than the world's most famously bald, gay ghouls: Trixie and Katya! Today's auditory ejaculation is our 100th episode, so bow down and worship at the altar of our auricular magnificence, you fools!

It made my heart break when he said he could lose his life just from approaching a guy in the gym too, theres such a common issue of guys who don't even have the common decency to not bully strangers or menace women in gyms but they'll hurt someone of the same gender just for asking if they are single it's so pathetic to witness. We don't even go to the gym alone anymore bc it's safer to go as a group.

It is world shattering to listen to Katya talk about her dad. It really shows you how good parenting equals future mental and physical wellnes. Also, it exposed to me this awful feeling of envy and anger that bubbles up every time I listen to someone talk about their wealth or supportive upbringing. It really is a privilege, a good environment that shapes you in a strong self-standing individual. Not to say that everyone should have the same experiences, good or bad, because challenges also thoughen you up to the outside world. It is really difficult to be a parent and it is pointless to dream of a different past for themselves. I wish to achieve the kind of self-forgiveness that Katya seems to show again and again. Wonderful to witness it and to be inspired by, total self actualization.

You took the words out of my mouth. I’m not proud of it in the least, but when my husband mentioned as a child their power got cut off for a few hours because of a mix up, I wanted to laugh, because as a child i didn’t have power for weeks, no fridge, sexual assault, neglect, drug addicted parents, CPS, removal, trauma by the boatloads. But for him, that was the worst he had experienced, even if it seemed so minor to me.

The part about smoking and meeting making in your life to get through tough times reminded me of one of the psychology classes I took in college about stress and coping specifically. We respond to stressors that feel as though they aren't solvable immediately so, and consequentially use many methods (i.e. prayer, substances, ticks and various habits) to distract from the cognitive dissonance created from a knowingly unsolvable or too grand of a stressor. Good stuff! Acute stressors, on the other hand, are things our brain decides that we can solve in the moment or have the means to do so! Good stuff.

Smoking and nicotine in general is a great quick stress reliever when you’re struggling to do what you gotta do and I think that’s a big part of quitting for a lot of people. A lot of places give smoke breaks because your body craves it so strong like food but even more frequently when you’re at that level of addiction. Pack a day is insane and doesn’t take long to get there given the stresses and level of addiction but it’s definitely cheaper than calling in sick.

Katya never disappoints with her tv/movie suggestions. I watched "Fleishman Is in Trouble" after she mentioned it and I enjoyed it so much. You will literally go through the gamut of emotions till the end... it was relatable, thought-provoking, and raw. As a mid 30's, art school grad, ex-New Yorker now living in the NJ suburbs, I needed this show so much. Thank you, Katya for the recommendation!!!!!

I live in Australia, in an area where those huge ibis birds are EVERYWHERE. I'm talking dozens surrounding my house at all times, and honestly, once you get past the appearance they can be kinda sweet. I hand feed them and they're very trusting, and their beaks don't hurt at all. Unfortunately, they're hated just because they're scavengers and sometimes jump on cafe tables knocking off plates and cutlery.

I love the level of openness Trixie had about her personal life. She doesn't tell too much, so she still has her own private life. But, she tells enough that I have watched her grow and mature over the years. It has been absolutely fascinating. Is this how all the stans feel about their obsessions? I'm not saying that's me with Trixie, but I have watched everything she has ever put out. There are so many things that she formerly couldn't stand that she is interested in now. Her routine life choices have changed. She's all into running now and is taking a break from drinking. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with her when she she first stepped into the spotlight. It's just been cool to watch her go from being in her 20s til now. She has changed a lot.

Trixie would love the birds until she realizes a lot of birds love chewing on things like clothes, hair (aka very expensive wigs), and possibly stealing jewelry (which is kinda cute). I grew up with a bird and he was an amazing pet but he loved to chew on everything lol.

I read somewhere that we smoke and it does calm us down not because of any part of the actual cigarette but because the cigarette makes us breath deep in and out and regulates your breathing like if your anxious or crying or just going through it for whatever reason they regulate breathing and that's what's giving you that relief. Also I'm a recovering addict and no craving lasts longer than 15 mins. So if you can just get thru that, for me it's comforting that nothing is going to drag me down forever.

when i was in high school exercise was a punishment and a tool in my eating disorder's belt for torturing myself. now in my late 20s i workout to be strong and i love it. it makes me feel good and powerful. so many people view exercise as a way of punishing their body like i did, but it's not meant to be a punishment, it's a gift to yourself to just move your body. it doesn't have to be about how you look at ALL, it should mainly be about how you feel.

How long until Trixie finally watches The White Lotus? Might as well discuss all the others: Triangle of Sadness, The Menu, Infinity Pool, Knives Out: Diced Onion. Basic plot formula: Wealthy elite (predominately middle aged and white) travel (often via boat or yacht) to a secluded, exotic location (often a resort or island) for a luxurious and exclusive experience. They engage in epicurean delights (food, alcohol) and hedonistic pleasures (sex, drug). In due course, they must contend with death in a visceral and existential fashion and fight for survival.

@@artforbagels5039 Katya liked The Menu and Triangle of Sadness, but Trixie was unfamiliar with Ruben Östlund, Chef’s Table, 2 Michelin star chef Dominique Cren, and doesn’t really do horror. My point was really about how every time Katya starts discussing films/tv shows, Trixie cuts her off to discuss something we’ve heard them talk about many times before (AC, makeup, LA, touring, her businesses). I would love for there to be a section where they talk about what they’re watching/reading. Sometimes, Trixie can be dismissive of stuff she isn’t familiar with and then they talk about stuff that is less fresh. I still remember when Katya was describing Madonna’s iconic “Take a Bow” music video and Trixie, who hadn’t seen it, dismissively replied “okay” as if the tv humping wasn’t true.

Influencers try not to talk about intense fan interactions because they don't want to encourage fans to do even-more-intense things to try to get mentioned. Sure, in person they'll probably be understanding about it, but definitely don't encourage it. A girl walking her dog who casually mentions she's a fan after Trixie approaches her first? Totally fine. A fan who bursts into tears at the sight of them? Not gonna get a mention.
