Excellent review! These days there are too few people talking about Wells. My favorite is The Island of Dr. Moreau.

I think hateful internet comments are the culmination of what "invisibility" can do to people's conscience and on the contrary, conversing with someone whose "invisible" can take away your empathy. Interesting. HG Wells was awesome. Time Machine is still one of my favorite sci-fi books. Great Video. Cheers.

Keyboard warriors are a great example :) But maybe it's not always hateful comments you'd say to someone via Internet because of the anonymity it provides, but good things too. And H.G. Wells is awesome. I just added The Island of Doctor Moreau to my wishlist. Have a great day!

@@megansreadingrevelations Thats true. Some people wouldnt donate to charity if they couldn't do so anonymously. So I guess the invisibility gives us the freedom to act on impulses we usually reason away without the sense of impending societal judgement, good or bad. Sometimes even praise can be overwhelming. The societal reaction is much less important than our perception of the reaction or possible reaction, and the anonymity allows us to bypass all that because we can be out the figurative back exit before anybody realizes it was us.

Exactly. That was one of the themes I loved in this book although our protagonist used his invisibility in order to commit crimes without repercussions. As someone who is shy, I like when given the option to 'remain invisible' or not :)

I expected to like Griffin or at least find some sympathy for him but he really wasn't likeable at all. It's a beautiful illustration of how having the quality of empathy and decency deeply humanises people.

Wow this sounds like a book I might enjoy. It sounds like the character is really quite horrid lol. The Picture of Dorian Gray was the same. Take away the ability for evil deeds to decay you, and you lose your soul in a respect. I’m adding this to my list. I haven’t read any HG Wells.

Read it last year. Was kind of ok'ish to me, liked the Time Machine more. Also read War of the Worlds, which was quite funny when comparing to our current day and age. Currently reading Kipps from him every few days, but it will take some time until I will finish that.
