Pulling the puck inward towards the body changes the angle of the release point. This causes the goalie to lean/move. When the goalie’s center of gravity is offset, it raises their anticipation, wondering when the shot will be released. This slight pause is dangerous. Bringing the puck closer to the body, keeps the hands in a frontal position, which camouflages the push and pull action it takes to shoot, also adding additional power.
