(Edit: no idea why I wrote so much... I have so much passion for this - whoever reads this, thank you)... I had to watch this one in phases, because I got halfway through it (I know, only 8 mins long) and just felt this overwhelming mix of ... sadness, frustration, fear, anxiety, and anger... definitely lots and lots of anger. I'm also SUCH a chill person, but this kind of thing just hits a nerve for me for some reason, because we know what the problem is, we know what the solutions are, but we can't convince anyone to do anything about it. And when they do, it's all greenwashing and empty promises. It's also frustrating because the problem is top down AND bottom up. On my channel so often I'll see the same things posted in various videos, in comments from one person to another, and it's the same misinformation. I experience that 2:02 thing on a daily basis. And the frustrating thing is that people who say that kind of thing are completely impossible to convince. You can send them every single scientific paper, point them to the IPPC reports, to the reference appendices with hundreds of things for them to read and verify... but they are okay just listening to someone on youtube who used to be a lawyer, failed at that, made a youtube conspiracy channel about aliens, then now talks as an expert anti-climate science professional. I won't name the channel, but he's basically where this all comes from. It's so infuriating to know that we're on this path, and there are so many people (it's terrifying really) who actually think that the scientists are pushing an agenda of global control with the climate science. I don't even know how to tackle that level of ignorance. That's the main challenge we face as a scientific community. How on earth can we reach those people? I've been trying to circumvent all that talk with just pointing out the inherent benefits of starting a garden and planting trees. My next video is straight up about how to make money installing a food forest. It's hard because the gardening community is arguably more "anti-climate science" than pro-science. It's weird but most of the people who care about this stuff (the city folk) aren't even doing much to help (it's hard to garden when you live in an apartment), and most of the people who are producing our food (the country folk) are the ones who both do the most damage (not just talking carbon but all the other existential threats we face), but they are also the heaviest contingent of people who don't "believe in science". We've got ourselves in quite a pickle here folks. What we need to for everyone to make sure we are doing what we can to both minimize consumption, but also look for ways where you can increase our own personal production (food). We really have to decentralize the food production system because it's causing the most amount of damage, and it's also the easiest for us to change, and has a massive impact. It's easy, it's impactful, it's low hanging fruit (literally) and we need to get on it. People who want to help but can't garden, check out drawdown dot org (spelled out so as not to hit youtube filter) and check out the list of most impactful changes, then see how you can help out. I'm pleading with anyone reading this far into a youtube comment... please think about starting a garden. I don't care where. In your backyard, in your frontyard, in a wild space in an abandoned parking lot. Heck even that's a great place for an apple tree. Maybe you get food off it that you didn't buy from 3000km away, and even if not, you still fed the bees, other larger wildlife and sequestered carbon. But we HAVE to stop industrial agriculture from destroying the planet. It's not even just climate change, it's ecosystem collapse and loss of topsoil. We have roughly 50 growing seasons remaining if we don't fix things (Stanford university). Just think about that number. It's terrifying. So everyone focused on climate change... we can solve all of the carbon problems, but if we don't also regrow our soils, we have 50 seasons left before the earth herself starts fixing this human problem that it has.

And be sure to include intergenerational moral corruption, one generation buck-passing climate change to the next. Of course, this assumes we will have future generations. I share your emotional state.

Thank you so much for this content & this message. In class the other day, I said something similar about how humans are parasitic freaks of nature (bc our sentient/conscious existence is such an anomaly) & we are invading the home of earth. The earth is sick & wants to heal so bad. I usually am bothered by the conspiracy theorists lack of ability to consider data, science & statistical analysis. Those who literally chose to d*ie on the hill anti mask to prove some arbitrary point of some arbitrary/non existent conspiracy & this lead me to a morbid thought; wondering if the mass hysteria is somehow part of earth’s healing. You learn in biology that your body does everything it can to fight foreign invaders/ailments/disease as soon as it enters you. I know there is no scientific way to prove this outside of political leanings ≈ c*v*d deaths. Our own bodies will essentially do anything it can to save our own lives & I have no doubt earth is doing the same. I’ve always been interested in Comp. Sci & this year, I realized maybe I’m capable of doing Data Science (after thinking it was beyond the scope of my intelligence). My lab professor inadvertently catered to a shift in career interests for me; we were assigned to summarize a scientific paper of our choosing to ensure we understood such materials & how to relay findings in case we ever had to. I chose a “random” topic, how climate change is affecting biodiversity & this dropped me so far down a rabbit hole that I was 3 days late turning in my assignments bc I was researching GIS, geoinfornarics & hydroinformatics. I was originally going to minor in UX Design but now I want to minor in GIS. If I’m available to do so, then why not me? I haven’t decided specifically what types of work I want to do, but hydrology is so appealing to me. Regardless, I will refuse to use my skills to aid in more destruction of the earth. I only desire to work in conservation efforts. I was feeling powerless after first hearing about the IPCC report, bc what can lil ole me do to reduce carbon footprint-I am a broke college student. 🥴 it feels soooo dystopian to recognize the advancements of humans, the advancements of science & technology, the ability to aid climate change, the $ & the resources to aid climate change before it became *this bad* ; but no let’s have a race/pissing contest to the moon. Since discovering GIS & now you mentioning the drawdown resource, & starting a personal garden…I now feel a little less powerless.

@@TheAmazinRaven I just read your comment and I’m rooting for you. Be the change we need. Even if you’re just one person. I myself have decided to go back to my roots and start farming and maybe motivating other people to do the same. I’m slowly learning about permaculture. I have about 12 acres of farm land at my disposal and I’m going to give it a go. That’s all I can do. So I’m going to do it. Life is too short to regret things we didn’t do and things we didn’t try.

I hear ya! I am one of those city folks that is in an apartment right now. I have lived in apartments for years. I want to get out! I couldn't help but enroll in a Geography Environmental Studies program @ the ripe old age of 48 to see if I can learn about the environment and work with scientists. I am bad at talking to people but will be taking a public speaking class. I really don't want to get into the people talking part of it, but I understand it has to be a part of it. And no kidding, right? Most of the rural community love the politicians that take money from the corpsepoorations that pollute and dig up all the resources. It's is sooo backwards. Ok, you love nature and gardening but you love the political parties that support it being polluted and dug up? Leave it to the human race, eh?

Great video! We really can't delay. It's so important that we keep pushing people to make smart choices in their lives. We are just a drop in the bucket of the worst offenders, but they don't exist if we don't buy their product. Some of those are really really hard to kick (everyone has to go to work, etc), but there's still so much we can do. All I know is that I'm going down fighting. One of the biggest things we can all do is start a garden. It helps so so many existential threats caused by big Ag. If I can do it with a job and wife and 3 kids, then anyone can. I can help show people how. It's critical that we get going on this!

It's hard to hear all this and still feel so helpless. I grow my own food, herbs, and weed. Try to give back to the bees for eating so much of their honey. Avoid single serve plastics and have used refillable bottles for years. Ride my bike and commute wherever I can when it's not scorching. And more I'm sure but I still travel solo for 2.5 hours one way to escape the desert. It feels like the tank of gas or so it takes to get there and back deconstructs every little piece of my eco-friendly tower I have built. Then to realize others aren't putting in a fraction of the effort and also doing way more damage overall. Sometimes it doesn't feel like our actions matter and we're just pedaling backwards. Expecting the worst but still hopeful for the best. Great video it was nice to see some data/numbers to cement the amounts of possible damage.

Agree with your presentation. I’m 71 and likely won’t be around when the worst of the negative effects begin to hit home. Never heard of ozone or climate change through my teen years. Now my three grandchildren will be around to bear brunt of humanity’s worse which is unfair to them. Although you were precise and mostly avoided big words, unfortunately this subject is complicated and I lack faith that most people seriously consider the seriousness of climate change.

I know I don't know enough to convince others and politicians about what is going on, but that's why I want to learn (I will probably watch this video another couple times). Whenever people want to hang out with me I can slip in my words on this matter so...there! No but really I can't wait to work with scientists in the field. I have been catching your videos to get an idea of what I will be getting into. Even the hardships sound pretty ok to me and worth it. So, there is another part of the report coming out that's going to tackle more forward-thinking and applied aspects of this report to look at options, so I'm looking forward to see what the IPCC recommends next year in that report. Assuming you're talking about the Canadian election - I am really upset with how the liberals have handled TMX so they're a hard no for me environmentally, I think we need leaders who take a much stronger stance for climate change and Indigenous peoples rights. I need to do more research into NDP and greens platform for climate change, I can't vote yet so it hasn't been a huge priority but it will impact the future of the country!

This is a complicated situation for all of us and there's no simple solution. It involves so much more than any of us can fathom or see. The fate of the planet and it's well being will fall into the hands and control of the most influential and richest players who have whatever interests in mind that suit them. BTW. I saw your video about the scariest camping experience. I live in Pennsylvania and have a concealed carry permit with reciprocity in most states. I don't know anyone that would go camping today that would be caught without carrying some effective means of protection. At least you have a knife. Hi Kristina I love your videos so much🥰 Also I feel so inspired to become an environmental scientist one day. But lately I have some doubts and fears because as I learn more about climate change and inform myself about what is happening I get really anxious and feel like I need to do something. I’m afraid that as the climate change is growing and growing, people in green jobs are feeling super stressed for not finding an instant solution. Could that be true? I mean could an environmental scientist get depressed or feel hopeless throughout his entire career as he knows so much but can’t solve instant the problem?

Totally, many people feel depressed and hopeless and sad a lot in this field. But also there are so many moments of light, and so many little moments that keep you going. Even if it's just saving a birds nest from being destroyed, or helping out wildlife at your local park - all these moments help :) even if there was no hope - which isn't true - I am going down fighting lol. In the 1970s they predicted that we would live in a new ice age by now... i would be cautious about anything the IPCC says. If you feed your computer models with bad/lackluster data you get bad/lackluster results, especially when ignoring the sun, the engine of our climate. Warmer is better than colder, global climate has yet to reach the temperature it had during Roman times when it was 2 degrees warmer than today (without industry & cars...figures °wink °wink). Compare that to the times when it got colder, like the little Ice Age during medieval times, which caused so much famine and bad health that something like the bubonic plague could devastate mankind.

Very easy to reverse and also ammend these horrors: Depopulation They have soil extinction happening in a very short time so perhaps the earth is safe.

the sea level rise is the least of our problems. You mention an IPCC start date of 1840? Industrial pollution started in the late 1700s so that means the temperature increase is warmer than 1840. Also the report ignores the Aerosol Masking Effect is twice as bad as previously thought meaning a 40% decrease in coal pollution (sulfur) will heat earth another 1 degree Celsius global average. Also the ESAS Methane "bomb" is already going off in the arctic and will keep getting worse - that will heat earth another 1 degree Celsius global average. Otherwise thanks for caring.

I have a question - you studied environmental science right? How come you call yourself a wildlife biologist? -sorry I’m not informed about this stuff.

I think its because that's what she does for her work. I'm pretty new to her channel myself, but one of her videos she was talking about how she worked doing research on wildlife movements based on gas pipelines.

Wildlife biology is under the realm of environmental science. My degree is actually ecology and animal behaviour, and I work with wildlife in my job as a biologist so usually wildlife biologist is the most applicable term for what I do. It is kind of confusing but many people use a lot of specialist job titles or just refer to themselves as general environmental scientists :)

As geology man and environmental man who is more concerned with loss of habitat (especially in the Amazon forest) I find this video ridiculous. The earths temperatures naturally fluctuate with the changing revolution of our planet around our hydrogen, helium burning star. We only have recorded temperatures for about 150 years and the accuracy of those temperatures are suspect. The hottest recorded temperature in the State of Oregon was in 1898 at 119 degrees long before the gasoline engine and the oil industry. Hottest recorded temperature in Alaska was in 1915. What is the percentage of CO2 in our atmosphere ? Are you kidding me ? We are not the planet Venus with a volcanic 99 percent CO2 atmosphere. In 20,000 years we will be headed back towards a deep freeze again and another ice age will be on its way. Why would anyone want to tear up our planet to make billions of batteries ? How are you going to charge these battery cars ? What fuel will power the plants that charge these cars ?

Globalists and there absurd God complex, these freaks couldn't destroy the planet if they wanted to, and with all the toxins and geoengineering bs and anti humanity insane agendas from "trans kids" aka chemically castrating/sterilizing/grooming pre teens, to indoctrinating people to hate others or themselves based on programmed racial shame/victimhood/guilt nonsense, they will certainly keep on trying, fortunately no matter how depraved insane and wicked times get there will always be a sane healthy moral remnant of good masculine men and good feminine women to be united stay together have wonderful children and build and grow things together and nurture each other etc. As for the rest well sadly they'll likely feel like you do full of apathy and a loss of hope thinking Life is meaningless and humanity is pointless and awful...accept" climate scientists" of course only they are invulnerable to corruption having sinister ulterior motives and greedy sinister agendas based on ideological bias and subversive ideologies ....yup that can effect everyone else...never them though lol. Anyways get some land, grow crops, find a good partner, get married, have many wonderful children, home school them preferably, then grow and build a home and community some more......or we can just lay down and sorta die eh everyone's got a choice frankly in the end no matter how stacked a deck can be at times.
