There's also his talent for making scenes. It's a talent even rarer than the 3 you mentionned. You walk into a made up scene that's already been fabricated and you just have to follow the orders of the director. But you're skilled enough to override literally everyone else and make that scene YOURS. YOU change it. YOU decide what happens in that scene. For as long as Hollywood has been a thing, any actor that could do this went on to become an absolute acting monster. Denzel, Sam. L Jackson, McConaughey ... Masters of their craft.

Actors are just people. Its not fucking rocket science especially when you dedicate your life to be good at something. I think people give actors a bit too much praise because they dont realize that everything in life is easy if you invest your time into being good at it. The problem is that many people have this cognitive block where they think they arent good and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Robert Deniro and Al Pacino arent special, they are just men. Marlon Brando essentially had a contempt for acting thinking it was the easiest thing in the world while also never bothering to learn his lines, Alfred Hitchcock said actors were like cattle and I think his meaning is that actors were interchangeable and expendable due to how many there were. Especially with film acting I mean you have how many takes to get things right, its nothing like theatre acting. Yeah they are good actors but theres no need to put these people on a pedestal.

@@eightiesmusic1984 The only way I think you could argue he 'seems similar' is that he brings intensity to many of his roles, and many of his roles are characters with depth, volatility, brooding. But I'm happy to be educated as to why British film fans are naive and easily impressed....
@eightiesmusic1984
@eightiesmusic1984 2 жыл бұрын
@@skiptracerbob For starters I would say it one of the main reason is that British film fans tend to be parochial in their tastes, not stepping outside English language films. There is a great reluctance to embrace subtitled films from abroad which means that so much compelling drama with high quality acting is missed, thus narrowing the frame of reference. There is a reason why the UK film industry is not very successful; there is little demand for its output beyond these shores.
@skiptracerbob

@@eightiesmusic1984 I was more interested in hearing your opinion, as it seemed like you have a strong one when it comes to british film fans. I don't doubt many are parochial and reluctant to engage in the broad spectrum of filmmaking from across the world - and I could see why that opinion intersects with your poor opinion of Steven Graham - but I don't see why any of what you've said makes him any less of a fantastic, compelling actor. I would also say, don't confuse interest in someone's opinion with an unwillingness to educate themselves. On the contrary.

Funnily enough Stephen Graham played Al "Scarface" Capone in Boardwalk Empire. Robert DeNiro also played Al "Scarface" Capone in The Untouchables, so you had 3 Scarfaces sitting at that table, two depicting the real Al "Scarface" Capone and one depicting a fictional Tony "Scarface" Montana. 3 Scarfaces, one table, pretty cool.

I saw him once in a BBC production call The Good Cop. He played a local villain and he positively made my blood run cold.
